This reason is good because for example , i am a big fan of One Piece , he's one of my favorites animes , but if someone don't want to watch it bc it's a 1110+ episodes anime , it's fine because the problem is not the length of the anime but the fact that when you watch this anime , you can't really watch anything else (who are not seasonal) at the same time for at least month , i watched One Piece during lockdown , sa i had a lot of free time , but nowadays i don't know if i would start now because my PTW is too big and i don't have the amount of free time i used to have during lockdown.

100% agree. It would take so much time to start watching it now, and the same goes with Detective Conan, which is even longer series.

Well, I don't think One Piece is a bad anime/manga. Unfortunately, it has too many episodes to watch. I rather watch anime with much fewer episodes. Like Senran Kagura and Hyperdimension Neptunia. But you need to have played those video games before you could understand the plots of those anime shows TBH.

I think it is a valid reason if you are used to watching anime with few episodes and also if you don't have much time to start watching series with more than 200 episodes.

While you have a good point I found time to watch Fairy Tail...granted it's not as long as One Piece, but I really enjoyed it especially toward the end. The only downside is that it takes up an anime slot in my daily schedule of watching one episode each of 4 different animes. It's a commitment but it's doable while still having a life. It better be really worth it if I am going to make that sacrifice again.

Fairy Tail 100 Years Quest just started...lets see how long it will be, I will definitely make time for that.

Agreed, if I hadn't started One Piece by now, I wouldn't do it today. It's the reason why I pretty much stopped consuming fighting shounen that are very long and/or not finished.

I agree. I mean not everyone wants to watch a 1100+ show that starts getting good at around ep 300. I actually find it funny when people who watched less than 100 episodes of One Piece say that they didn't like it and toxic One Piece fans say ''Watch at least 200 episodes'' as if everyone has time to do it.

Totally valid. If an anime requires you invest a very long time for it to get decent then you're totally ok with not liking or hating it. Investment requires commitment and if someone can do that and someone can't it shouldn't be an indicator of anybody's tastes (in most cases)

I would say its not a very good reason tbh.

The primary consideration for whether to watch something is enjoyment and/or satisfaction. So I ask you this, if you start a series, without knowing how long it is, and you enjoy it, would you feel cheated or that you wasted your time if you learned that it actually has 1000 episodes? If its good what does it matter? Last year I watched a bit of star trek, a truly massive series with 40+ minute episodes, and you know what happened? I watched as much as I felt like watching and I called it a day. You don't have to finish an anime for it to have been worth it, I still have not seen the ninja war arc of naruto because I thought it was horribly paced and I hated watching it, but that does not tarnish all the great memories of the the earlier seasons.

I do understand that it is harder to jump into a long series, knowing that you may well never finish it, and its easy to think that if you didn't experience the whole story you somehow "failed" at watching it, or perhaps you are frustrated for wanting to see the conclusion but lacking the time to do so. But honestly these are just mental blocks, like I said, even if you watch the first episode of one piece, think its really good, and never watch anything else, I cannot for the life of me see what the big loss in that is. Oh no, you enjoyed yourself for 24 minutes, what an unbearable fate.

Any reason is a good reason if you feel it is, mate. Any, reason, at, all.

I personally don't care, though. Anime comes out when it does, I watch it when I watch it. If I take a break, I take a break, and come back to it later.

It still doesn't make sense to me, for 2 reasons.

1. If you enjoy watching an anime with 1000 episodes, the length is a positive instead of a negative, that means you found something you enjoyed to keep you occupied for the foreseeable future, compared to trying out 50 different 20 episodes series and you never know which one you would like, and which one you wouldn't. If you like every one of those 50 anime series, then I would understand.

2. A lot of the shorter, seasonal anime are not completed, the story stops mid way and once it's fully aired, there is no guarantee that you are getting a second season, and you're forced to either read the manga or the light novel. This is a huge pet peeves of mine for seasonal anime. There are so many anime that I enjoyed but would never be able to see the end of it because I do not like reading light novels, either that, or nobody is translating the manga to English.

There are some people that fall into the trap of seasonal anime FOMO, they watch a lot of seasonal anime just to be up to date with any potential talking points in their friend groups, which is understandable, but I watch anime for my own enjoyment rather than FOMO, so I don't really care much about watching 50 different series compared to just 1 that I enjoy.

It depends on why being too long is an issue:

- I'd rather watch a wider array of anime in the same amount of time (good reason)
- I don't have much free time (it depends, it can be a good reason but nobody is forcing you to binge it, you could watch one episode every 1 or 2 or 3 days for example)
- I'm a completionist so I'd have to watch all of it even if I hated it (not a good reason, stop being a competionist)
- I fear it will only get good after 100 episodes (not a good reason, some anime do get better over time but the beginning doesn't have to be painful to watch, if that's the case just drop it)

To be fair, the opposite is actually more common among casual anime fans. I mean that they'd rather watch thousands of episodes of One Piece, Naruto and MHA over several short anime.

One Piece is not an example of a long anime - it's the same template repeated over and over again

1. MC get beaten up
2. some sort of enlightenment happens
3. MC comes back an beats up the character who was supposed to be stronger

with long and pointless dialogues, flashbacks, etc in between

fairy tail is also like this by the way

@nachomaxo1 When I first started streaming over on CR, I watched about 6 shorter series. Then I started on Fairy Tail. That took months, because I was still doing other things, ie, my elderly Mother was still alive & living with me so I could only devote a couple of hours a day to Anime'. Phew. I actually did finish it.

@Serafos Detective Conan technically has marginally more episodes than One Piece, however almost 50% of them are filler while One Piece only has 8% filler so it actually works out to Detective Conan being much much shorter if you skip the filler (which in Detective Conan's case one definitely should, I watched a few of the old ones and they are laughably bad)

It is just anime,so if someone doesnt want to watch it because it is too long, well it is their choice and nothing wrong with it.

Long anime/shows (IF it is not just full of filler episodes) doesnt need to be bad, some stories can be great/intense. And to anyone struggling with this, what I do when i want to watch something is just assign some episodes to the week: say you just want to watch 3 episode of an anime each week because there are other stuff (or animes) that you want to do/watch.

The problem with anime is it presents the world with extreme cognitive distortions. I don't want to pollute my mind with such content. The MAIN reason I watch anime is to see what kind of new propaganda the corporations are inventing. So I can satirize it.

@animegamer245 AG and DP were translated to Brazillian Portuguese by a fan group called Bruthais Fansub. Kinda crazy to think these arcs of the most famous anime in the world are available subbed only in my native language. They even had OS fully subbed many years before SOSSubs did it. If you want to watch it, search for the website "Narutoshinihon", the entire series subbed is there. If you can only watch in english, better wait for the next SOSSubs releases, which will be AG and DP. Hope they don't take too long

No, it's just being lazy. Imagine saying you refuse to watch Anime due its too short, its silly. Not only Anime with too many episodes, it can be applied to any 1-cours+ with even less episodes, you can watch a lot like a single Anime with many episodes.

if you can sit through hours of social media arguments
you can sit through one piece/several 1-cours+

if you can sit through hours playing games
you can sit through one piece/several 1-cours+

Valid reasons to refuse to watch an Anime are stuff "I don't like it" for example.

A lot of people would put off a long anime due to its length, but honestly, it should be more so about interest than episode count. There are a ton of people who have watched shows (live action) that are 1 hour long, 10+ seasons, and people still watch them. This is especially true of long running dramas and other shows. One show that immediately comes to mind is Supernatural, which has 326 episodes with a run time of around 40 minutes without commercials. It takes 218 hours to watch. Of course, you have other shows, like cop dramas, that are well past season 15 with a run time of 1 hour (around 40 minutes without commercials). Doctor Who is another good example.
A standard 23 minute (without commercials) anime with 1000 episodes (exactly) would take a little over 383 hours to watch. Sure, 383 hours is a lot, but if you're watching 3 episodes or so a day, a little over an hour's worth, one could easily hit that 1000 mark in a little over a year.
For long running shows with many episodes, the goal isn't to have it finished within a short binge. It is a show you want to enjoy for a bit. That is why interest plays a key factor.
I spent years being stuck at around the episode 150 mark of Detective Conan because I never watched past the dub, and before I knew it, it had so many episodes. I am around episode 500 now, but I don't watch it constantly. I watch it on and off and have slowly gotten closer to catching up. Of course, sometimes I'll binge it if it is a particularly good arc.
Interest is the main thing. If one finds something interesting, spending a year watching it isn't a task - it's fun. There's no point in watching an anime that you have no interest in, short or long.
As for One Piece, that show I do not see myself ever trying to get into. I've seen about 20 episodes or so in the past, wasn't fond of the plot, wasn't fond of Luffy, etc., so I will not embark on that. Will I continue with Detective Conan and catch up on day? Yes, because I enjoy it.

Only if you are not caring enough about it to warrant keep watching it to the end. Why wouldn't you want to (eventually) finish something you are caring enough or more than enough and is adding enough value to your life? What point there is in choosing to finish something you don't care about "but it's short" over something you are caring about "but it's long"? It isn't a rational decision.
