My memory may fail me, because I cant remember anyone else that have a body double, even with many characters being nobility.

Catherine appeared.

Keep your enemies closer.

Another tragic episode! 😭😭😭
Now that I thought of it, Sakuya(Sakura) is definitely so lovely in her dress BUT she was failed to be rescued.

This series just kept on making this series more tragic.

The way they introduced their new leader was a bit anti-climactic, it would've been nice if he has more lines to create a loyal character in his bravery to serve Sakuya(Real) to Rescue (Sakura).

The fight against Neo-B was rather awesome, and how they captured Sakura was really... wow. Could've been better.
The moment you noticed how smooth the operation was going without having a backup plan—Lelouch may have done better—but Sakuya is not in the same prowess as Lelouch, as she only has that Geass to depend on, and now, the series revealed Ash Phoenix's status as enslaved by her Geass.

Her end goal is becoming more far and seems unreachable.

It's not that I dislike this genre but... to add unnecessary fan services to/in/for heroines
and ultimately destroys her character and personality; their purity tarnished because of it,
is the only thing I hope to not happen to them. For that sole purity is my fan service.

I had a feeling it wouldn't be so easy to rescue Sakura... We're only on episode 2 for peeps sake! But I also wasn't expecting Catherine to just swoop in and grab her like that. What a twist at the end of the episode, that really complicates things between Sakuya and Ash!

oh lord, there's A LOT of 🅿️lot in this one. (though can't compare to the likes of C.C. and Kallen or Leila and Ayano). Catherine resembles Karla from UY last season.

That Knightmare Frame pilot knows Ash Phoenix as an Assassin.

Called it, Ash isn't aware of who Rozé is. Sakuya pulled a Rolo on him. This is her long-term revenge for her father being one of his targets.

We are still not sure if it's exactly the same geass as Lelouch *cof, L.L., cof* but... damn, imagine how easier would have been if Lelouch just made everyone as loyal as ash is to roze/sakuya, less dramatic, but interesting nonetheless, less of a genius that Lelouch, but with more interesting orders and an innate ability to rule as a king (technically Lelouch also had it, but ironically Sakuya being less of a genius is kinda interesting in comparative)

damn, I'm having the time of my life, feeling that "something" I felt back in 2007 when i just stumbled upon the first episode of code geass, 2500 anime later, and I still enjoy this as a little kid

a part of me is fine having the stroy contained, and another part of me is wondering what will happen once the wall crumbles and the black knights appear, especially with the sumeragi relation to kaguya (i mean, kaguya, sakuya, come on), this would be easily explained if it was 10+ years in the future but

kowa period starts (after emperor lulu died, it started )
in year 2 of kowa the resurrection movie happens
year 3 neo Britannia was formed
year 7 is the start off this anime *(episode 1 rose and ash taking the job)

So... for roze/sakuya to be kaguya's daughter and be at least 15 (assuming) kaguya would have to be pregnant about 7 years prior to zero requiem, so i doubt it
perhaps a cousin or something?

Eh... I was willing to give it a chance after the first episode, but I can't say this episode is giving me much faith in the series. It really feels like its just taking concepts from the original Code Geass and throwing them together but not as well.
Roze seems like discount Lelouch and her bond with Sakura is a lot like Lelouch's bond with Nunnally.
The dynamic between Roze and Ash is the dynamic between Lelouch and Rolo, though in this case it's forced through Geass which makes it not as interesting.
Oda feels like a Tamaki copy. Monobe is like Ougi. Kuroto is like Toudou.
The vibes when Roze revealed her true self to Kuroto felt a lot like episode 12 of R1 where Lelouch met the Kyouto group.
The part where and after Catherine took Sakura felt like a speed run of Lelouch's mentally across R2 Ep 6-7.

Also, the villains so far are cartoon villains that are basically just evil and arrogant for the sake of being evil and arrogant. Code Geass did this a few times, including with Clovis, so I was willing to give it a pass on the first episode but if its going to be what most of the antagonists are like that would be awful. They better give Catherine more depth than that.
The mech designs are also weaker than the main series. The action is fine, but the plans surrounding things weren't all that interested or complicated, which resulted in the battle this episode lacking the Code Geass flair.

The only thing I think that this series does really well in so far is the character designs. CLAMP doesn't miss.

@itzswxzy it means i don't have anything else to talk about from this episode apart from that frame which felt like a callback because i find this series very uninteresting so far. @hexashadow13 above summed it up pretty well.

I keep trying to enjoy this show, but I keep getting distracted by pointing by how much it copies from Lelouch of the Rebellion. It's like I'm watching a watered-down version.
In terms of this episode, the action was good, the scenes around the prison cell were nice, and the twist at the end was shocking too. I wouldn't mind if the rest of the series has the level of quality we've seen so far.

When 1st ep revealed Roze was Sakuya I kinda figured she Geassed Ash somehow (that or Ash's real bro is MIA...but that would've had too many pre-planning and coincidences to line up).

but yeah, this has solidified that she pulled a Rolo on him and he (apparently) never had a brother to begin with. Dang though...him sweating when Sakuya was "double checking" that he was still Geassed....idk if I should feel sorry for him or...?

Well can't wait for more of his history to be revealed (if there is more to be revealed....)

I don't care how derivative this series is from the original Code Geass, I'm having a great time watching it! Love how smooth the mecha animation has been and the implementation of some 2D animation here and there during the battles. The reveal at the end was great, I do wonder about those two flashbacks that seemed connected to the same battle. Maybe we'll see why Sakuya's father got killed by Ash soon.

i watched the first 2 episodes objectively and on their own merits. this is edgelord trash. edgy guitar track plays, knightmare kills everything effortlessly, generally without the enemies even moving. 10? years after the events in geass/etc, everything is literally grounded? like, no float systems or whatever? they clearly put a ton of budget into animating this, but still used cgi and didn't seem to care about the plot.

in the first episode, the exposition was terribad. like, a character just literally said the plot aloud.

the writing is lousy.

i expect macguffins and lame plot devices and further twists (honestly, saw the end of ep 2 twist a mile away, but whatever), as if it's some kind of required formula.

@queefmonster A lot of that sounds like your taste is simply different, rather than being an objective problem.

Evidently, it's only the start of the story. That said, it's wrong to say the enemies are barely moving. Especially in episode two, that's inaccurate.

Lack of float systems can be explained in any number of ways, including due to the forcefield / wall / barrier around the island of Hokkaido.

There's nothing wrong with CGI in this day and age, particularly when it looks this good.

While the introductory episode left a sour taste in my mouth that just got worse the more I thought about it, this episode was... alright, I guess.
The mecha action scenes were more stimulating than the ones in the first episode, and this episode had another twist at the end, which I enjoyed. I'm also enjoying the character development.
What struck me, though, was the sheer amount of fanservice. Usually, I don't mind fanservice, and although the original series was known for its fanservice, there was so much in this episode that it just felt ridiculous. You could be forgiven for thinking you were watching an ecchi series.

They rescued Kazuma Kiryu! God is real!

Anyway, enjoyed that episode. Only criticism I have is that I wished that the main villain of this episode that Ash was fighting against hadn't acted surprised when Ash mentioned having a brother. That scene diminished the impact of the final scene because after I heard the surprise in his voice the first thought that came to my mind was maybe he's under the control of Geass? Sure enough...

Looks like another G-Witch situation. That's not just friendship pushing our MC.

The whole revenge on the guy that killed dad thing probably won't be played out well in 12 episodes. Also, how strong are the cables for slash harkens? They can withstand the g forces of being fired from a rocket and hold the weight of a knightmare frame. They were always op, but this episode was something else.

I also don't like the design for the main knightmare frame. It feels like a super sentai mecha rip off. They might as well put racing stripes on it, if they wanted ANOTHER mecha that is inspired by cars and motorcycles.

On the other hand, Kenji Kawai is doing the damn thing with the OST. Easily the best part of the anime so far.

Ash being this elite soldier dude with a violent, unforgivable past while also being overly shy enough around girls to get one from his new squad to fall for him really does capture the classic Code Geass feel. Got a good feeling his inevitably end of contract is gonna be tragic.

Kinda enjoying this so far as its own thing despite the lack of Lelouch tbh

I don't know if I should be as excited for this but I'm really looking forward to the coming episodes. It's so weird but also awesome to have Code Geass back in some capacity and I honestly think they're doing a great job so far. Yep Ash was controlled by geass which was obvious but looks like he's the one who killed Sakuya's father as well so it's kind of like what Lelouch did to some characters. We got to know more about the characters background. They were close to saving Sakura but guess that'll be for the end part now. Hard to believe Sakuya and Sakura aren't twins but maybe she's from a branch family or they sent one of the twins to a branch family to not have succession dispute. The white queen Catherine is pretty, hope she joins their side or something. Mecha action or in general it had good animation.
