Hmm, it was kinda NTR and it was not at the same time. Guy MC loves this girl/boy whatever. She runs into the arms of this guy which can constitute to NTR where the crush actually loves another. NTR isn't just mindbreak sex etc. The rape was just rape though, not NTR afaik.

Civilization is present with the Ministry of Reconstruction (their uniforms look very Meiji period). Kiruko struggles to put something down for gender. They've been wandering a lawless land, now they have to deal with bureaucracy. Kona stays with the 5th years but Anzu, Taka, Mimihime and Shiro go outside the outside. The director is desperate to get to her new body soon, she fucking sprinted from the wheelchair while the lady got incinerated. Tokio Jr. and Jr. C got mixed up! Sawatari drew a circle on "the right one", (last episode, Maru means circle in Japanese, as attested by the 丸 on the car the duo inherited from Juichi). Sakota is the name of the doctor then. If he knows about the man-eaters, which Takahara Academy staff member could he be? So in addition to supersoldier and weapons research, they genetically engineered resilient crops (very convenient), and they usually talk of a "day of fate" so I think they knew a disaster (like a war) was coming and their research was to ensure humanity wins/survives it but they did that at the cost of losing their humanity. Kiruko left Kirubeam with Maru...Kiruko didn't think it was necessary to take it to the reunion with Robin... Mimihime is in total awe seeing the sky for first time..her last request before Maru crushed her core makes even more sense now... Maru turns down two hookers to eat alone. Kiruko's the only one on his mind now... FUCK ROBIN! Hate Robin, hate him. Mirrors and handcuffs? This shit was pre-fucking-mediated, cucking Haruki, forcing him to see his beloved sister Kiriko being violated. Robin's expression when he saw Kiruko (who he thinks is Kiriko, initially) was not of relief more like fear or seeing a ghost (contrary to the story that the doctor's thought; that Kiriko made herself believe she was Haruki out of guilt). It is very likely he raped Kiriko in the past, and when she fought back he shot her in the head (providing Dr. Sakota with a body to transplant Haruki's brain to). |

| The contrasts with the night ladies and the institute kids finding their way outside... Things were real sus once the clothes happened to be 'missing' and that vocal tone changed, that's a real gtfo moment. Poor kid >< Hopefully Maru space lasers the *censored* next episode. |

| Alright, another 'shocking moment' in a pretty perverted manner just for a shock value. So two humans can share one body and even one conscious in the same time? Ridiculous. Imagine a story starting with 'hey, dude, I am dude too... so stop' but end it with a typical 'hey, I thought about it, I am not dude anymore, dude' just to make a romance story from this abomination. |

| The anger at this episode is misdirected. Tengoku Daimakyou just had tales covering euthanasia and vengeful murder. One involving rape is appropriate. The problem is the writing is terrible. Up until this point, Spike Spiegel was portrayed as an overprotective, gruff man suffering from the loss of his sister. Rough around the exterior, but not without good qualities. Something of a Byronic hero. He 180° flipped to being a malicious rapist who takes delight in torturing a child he knew 5 years ago. It's shock value for the sake of shock value. The anime even made the rape scene way more tame than the manga. Here's a question I pondered approaching this episode, having read the manga beyond this point: should an anime adaptation deviate from the source material if it knows it can improve it? This chapter in the manga (chapter 32) was received horribly. The anime has already taken several liberties with the way scenes unfold. Sometimes it cuts things for time (for example, the end of the previous tale with Kiruko's first menstrual period and the beginning of this chapter were cut), but many things in this adaptation are outright changes in artistic direction & dialogue. Kiruko doesn't fill out the registration card initially as Haruki. That's an anime original idea. How would you rewrite this? Up until the rape, it was handled pretty well. The anime directing and animation quality were standout, much better than the manga. The two catch up and marvel at once again seeing such a familiar face (metaphorically in Kiruko's case). But rather than SUBVERSION, have the story be about realising there's no going back to the past. Kiruko has lived these past 5 years with the goal of reuniting with the past, thinking life will magically return to what it once was if she finds people of her previous life. Eyes looking backwards rather than forwards. But after some events, there is no returning. This is what the story has been slowly developing as Kiruko journeys with Maru - Maru is effectively her family now. Spike Spiegel is a firm member of this town. He can't abandon it and go on the journey with Kiruko. Maybe make him a husband and father to really sell the point. Have him try on his old jacket, and remark how it doesn't fit him like it once did. By the end (minor spoiler for the next episode): Things change. There's a new goal & a new purpose now. This had potential to cash out all the character build-up since Episode 3, but squandered it for the sake of retarded shock value. Episode shows how easy it is to sour an otherwise good story with one bad part. It went out of its way to cripple itself, when phoning in a standard approach would've paid off more. |
| There we are, the tender reunion finally happening, Kiruko is happy and safe, first a bath then a chat... EXCEPT NOT, what you get is handcuffs and mind break. Haven't seen such a ludicrously messed up betrayal since Berserk, but this time, coming from a non-sus character, which makes it maybe even worse, and more shocking too. Like expecting Spike and getting Vicious. With the totally familiar voice of Hijikata and Zoro, nonetheless. Looking back though, Robin had beaten some dude to a bloody pulp when he was being a threat to Haruki, so violent tendencies aren't ooc. I'm not so sure about Kiriko being a rape victim in the past, as I don't recall her being wary near Robin - I don't remember any important interaction between them, actually. Moreover, taking the blatant tomato into account, Kiriko was a virgin. On the positive side, the kids are free - well, some of them, including of course the stoic soon-to-be doctor and his sky-gazing girlfriend. Aww. Look at that wheeled old bitch, running faster than Usain Bolt! |

| Phenomenal episode, that scene with Robin was brutal. Horrifying though as it should be when depicting a topic like SA. Thing is I already got spoiled, so the buildup made it even more unbearable. Plus they're outside, things are going crazy, how are things gonna turn out now. On a lighter note the director not actually being disabled and just booking it was hilarious. She really just made everyone push her around when she could move just fine. |
