This episode goes to show that Rentt has a kind heart. Regardless of the payout, he helps out a client in need for a request.

He helps the helpless no matter what the risk. The boss gave me slight Dark Souls vibes by its design though.

New quest time.

Rentt stumbled upon a cost-effective request within the guild. The compensation? A mere copper coin. Known as the One Copper Coin Quest, it was a custom fostering trust between adventurers and the townsfolk. This tradition was a special recruitment by the guild to aid those in need, a principle they staunchly upheld. Alize, a young girl, sought assistance for Lilian, the caretaker of the orphanage upon which she relied. With resolve, Rentt accepted the task and embarked towards the perilous Swamp of the Tarasque to procure the dragon's blood flower essential for Lilian's recovery. Along the journey, Rentt discovered that the flowers held sentimental value for Lilian and served as ingredients for various potions. Thus, Rentt and Alize embarked on a quest through the swamp in search of the elusive flower.

How convenient. Rentt's immune to poison, so I thought going into a poisonous area full of poison monsters would be easy for him. Normally, I'm not a fan of familiars in fantasy anime because they're always so typical, but I actually like the rat. I hope it doesn't turn into some generic dragon or something. It's funny how Rentt was highly respected at the guild for ten years for helping new adventurers survive, yet now he doesn't even consider that a bridge in a poisonous swamp might be rotten. Then there's that fight with the bull, or whatever it was. He started fighting tough enemies pretty quickly.

Anyway, rats will be rats... always chewing on things.

Vampire thrall rat pet unlocked.

Takes on high risk no reward quest, gained a pet, defeated the area boss with the help of said pet, hit the mother lode and encounter a mysterious elf(possible hidden boss). Rentt quest progression is wild one.

Edel is just a rat but he's somehow classified as monster in this world.

The ecology of this poison lake doesn't make sense. So that dragon's weakness is divinity, but somehow it lives near the flower known for its divinity power. It should attend an ecology class from Dungeon Meshi.

@phantomfandom this just my opinion but edel a monster rat that ability is to control rats and mice

As for the dragonblood flower my opinion is either the first one took root where the dragon couldn't get to it allowing it to purifying the area acting like a repellent allowing more dragonblood flowers to grow into a larger patch or the elf have been protecting and can not leave as the dragons would trample the patch so he going to ask for Rnett to get him supplies

It's not that I dislike this genre but... to add unnecessary fan services to/in/for heroines
and ultimately destroys her character and personality; their purity tarnished because of it,
is the only thing I hope to not happen to them. For that sole purity is my fan service.

The monster design reminds me about Soul series too.

Also the new rat companion is very adorable.

@phantomfandom I mean for a lot of fiction setting, poisonous creatures usually live near where the antidote grows.
It's not proven scientifically but a lot of author use this setting.

Yknow, unpopular anime usually are judged way more harshly for the detail and setting. while in those mainstream most popular shows, no-one cares about the irrationality of setting, like Solo Leveling and Demon Slayer.
In fact i often being called out for being nitpicking if I point out those bullshit moment when i commented in those thread.
I wonder why... Seems like good animation will give a pass for any bullshit and irrationality.

Why can't it though? What can flower do to that dragon by itself? I'm not even talking about that noone even said those dragons live close to those flowers, only that its weakness is divinity power.

This is like underrated version of Solo Leveling, but even better, I would say (who cares😊). At least the MC doesn't kill a three-headed boss by just hitting one eye of its one of three heads.

"It joined my party in the orphanage's basement."
"You're skipping a lot there."
Lorraine is such a good character. I'm so glad she named him instead of letting Rentt, he is but a simple man, but "Edel" is much better than "Blackie" 😂😅

The tale of the dragonblood flower sure was a curious one. Shelia pouting at Rentt's view of it though was cute. The children of the orphanage opting to put out a quest to help their dear headmistress though really was endearing. Rentt's first familiar being a rat lol. Nice ambush the gobs pulled in the swamp though. The fight against the Tarasque though sure was a tough one.

I feel like this is an enjoyable anime that’s flying under the radar.

It’s one of my favorites in Winter 2024.
Note: I don’t lazily watch 3-5 episodes, biasedly compare to other anime, or unfairly judge by surface level similarities. With every anime I start, I watch the entire series, both Japanese Sub & English Dub, then judge each anime based on what they present, to give an honest and fair rating.

@Saphhh • There is lot going on in each episode and it pushes the main story forward.

We learn more about this world and other characters.
We learn about his good character and relationships with others.
We learn about his qualities as an adventurer and why people trust him.
We learn about his state as a monster and his powers.
We learn about there being a hidden past that no knows, which inspires him to reach a higher rank.

It is a slower pace anime, but it is not repetitive or filler.

It is possible Rentt just doesn't care now that he has died once, It's possible his mindset here was "I'm an undead, I can't really be killed without divinity magic involved." (if even that, since he uses divinity magic himself.) So he didn't even bother with the thought to be careful in such a deathly place since even Poison doesn't really effect him. I did expect/was hoping the boss fight to do a bit more damage to him though, oh well.

“Blackie cause he’s black” lmaooo that’s crazy. Edel is a cool addition to the cast and certainly one of the most unique familiars we’ve seen.

The one copper quest is a very nice tradition and if there’s anyone who deserves it, it’s Lilian with all she’s done for those kids. Rentt may not have his human body, but he’s still got his heart and can’t refuse helping people in need. The guy just can’t stop making a massive difference in the lives of everyone he meets.

Lorraine putting blood in Rentt’s food is definitely interesting lmao.. the question is where did the blood come from.. because there’s some old stories about women doing that to keep a man..

The dragon designs in this show are probably the most unique I’ve ever seen. Edel came in clutch in the fight too, being able to use divinity is a big bonus in a fight like this. Animation was a little lacking but oh well.

Can’t wait for the next ep

So we finally get the rat friend we've been teased about. And I guess they consider rodents low-level "monsters". Well, not too surprising, given how deadly they can be for spreading disease. A surprising useful familiar. I wonder if the rat can also use Rentt's mana and spirit magic as well.

I just realized it, but couldn't Rentt have as much of Loraine's blood as he wants...once a month?

As much as I'm an addict for isekai, a good ol' classic pure fantasy series like this with no bells and whistles is what I love. The comfy ED theme ties the show up nicely like a ribbon on a present.

Rentt is off taking guild guests again, this time it’s to get a flower to help the priestess at an orphanage, and the pay is very little but thankfully Rentt is such a good lad that he was willing to help anyway. And it was here that we finally met the little rat companion who later was named Edel by Lorraine, but not before Rentt punched it across the room lol. And man they even went and gave it a little cape, I almost think it’s too cute to be sitting on a spooky skeleton man’s shoulders lol.

And later we saw Edel be more than just a cute shoulder buddy when Rentt encountered one of those massive wyvern-type monsters in the swamp, and despite it not looking like a wyvern I do really like the design, I almost wish Rentt didn’t win against it because it had a final boss look to it but it was nice seeing Rentt being badass after we were robbed of it last episode. And after the boss fight Rentt ended up stumbling upon a huge field of the flower he was looking for, but in the process also encountered a sus elf guy, hope he’s friendly lol.

ROFL @ the Rats

So rats are "monsters"...

And incidentally can be turned into servants from Rentt's vampiric powers... (tho... when did Rentt evolved into vampire? I thought he was still before vampire monster? forgot name)

.

And Lorraine named the rat, and the rat responds more to Lorraine than Rentt, LOL, looks like the Rat knows who's the "higher up".

But it looks like the Rat is also acting like he's even "higher up"... hehe

(tho it looks like the rat can be quite powerful, in some ways...)

.

And "I haven't taste something so delicious"

Lorraine: "I put my blood in it"

LOL... he sure loves her blood, I wanna taste her now too.

.

and... more elf... these elves seems to appear at mysterious places huh...

LMAO Rentt’s Familiar Edel is too fucking funny man when that little mouse has his stomach full all cartoony style made me laugh man why is bro so jokes?🤣🤣🤣🤣

Everytime I see Lorraine im reminded that as I’m watching this show to see Rentt become a Mythril class, that she’s my second reason why I’m watching this show her tiddies are always out in EVERY episode she’s just pure eye candy to me I love it😫😩🙌🏽

Rentt is so nice to help out the orphanage with the dragonblood flowers I thought bro solved it for them after he went in the basement halfway into the episode bc it just skipped to him back at Lorraine’s house but I see he was planning on going to the swamp to find out the flowers

I wonder who that elf guy is? I’m guessing he has something to do with that lady that appeared in the labyrinth back in the beginning episodes🧐

Not untrue, but there's a clarification that I can't recall if it was shown or not, but 1 copper coin jobs are basically community service jobs that the guild lists out. It's not for the money, but more for the goodwill of the community. And yeah the Tarasque is an actual mythical creature that also shows up in DnD. Ironically, this onenis MUCH closer to the OG myth.

I'm really loving it so far. This anime adaptation is actually doing a great job of following the story. It's quite condensed, but it captures the essence of the source material really well.

As far as I'm concerned this is already one of the better anime I have seen in the past year. But just as I expected Unwanted Undead Adventurer isn't to everyone's taste - it has a mellow tempo that focuses on character interactions and the main character's thoughts rather than action scenes or taking down a primary antagonist and foiling their plans. When the anime adaptation was announced I already assumed it wouldn't be very popular. It's doing much better than I thought it would.

If anyone is enjoying this anime I can strongly recommend picking up the light novel.

Agree on all counts, though while I think the LN is the more in-depth version of the story, it can get pretty wordy. The manga changes a few bits in places, but is an easier read(art is also amazing, but this applies to the LN as well).
