Why do I now have the desire to cook Karaage?? It's so much work too.

Also loved how the poisoned guy was praising how juicy the basilisk was, honestly I thought that was a cockatrice.

Being caught up to speed on the rules of the world and knowing death is a common occurrence with people "wiping" and getting revived as a result. I feel pretty well caught up and in the world now.

Issue of the first episode's pacing well gone. This show is fantastic. Humor, food, interesting characters, and an adventure. Right up my alley.

Art is pretty decent, I wish it was a little better on the food, but for what it is? No complaints.

Upping my rating to a 9 depending on it goes may make it a 10.

At this point it feels like a slice of life to me . I mean there should be more dangers. Tbh the cooking can be disgusting sometimes but things like survival are a lot fun.

Snake meat can be delicious, although very annoying and tiresome to fully separate to prepare and be able to cook. This episode made me long for it again, but it really does taste similar to white meat poultry like that from chicken (though that's reptiles in general, but something like alligator meat has a much larger fish or crab element to the taste profile, which must have to do with the animal being aquatic), so probably will just settle for the much more readily accessible option of chicken for now.

And bat is something which I've sadly never tried, but has long been on my list, and this episode just rekindled something in me again to want to try seeking it out somewhere. I don't want to have to/feasibly can't just swing by Palau though.

Also, Marcille didn't irk me nearly as much in this episode, which is a good thing.

The comedic style isn't doing it for me. I'm just hoping that at least Laios acting like a clown either fades away or I just become numb to it on the long run. Same with Marcille's reluctance to eating monsters.

As a fan of RPG knowledge, at least the whole lore behind mechanical traps is quite interesting. And the cooking segments still look awesome, so that's my reason to stick with this one.

Edit: Chillchuck acting all responsible towards detecting traps feel awfully inconsistent if compared to his chill stance in episode 1 after they lost their food supplies before the dragon encounter.
@Kimurah

As it is said in episode Chilchuck carries the responsibility of his comrade life when it concerns his job. Guy is just strict and loyal to his own job ethics and losing their food wasn’t the biggest concern here compared to the safety of his companions. They are two different things.

Senshi: "pking is alright, I have big feet anyway".

Does Marcille want to eat or not; first she's enjoying, and shortly after she doesn't want to anymore.

This show is the cooking anime series I didnt know I needed. It definitely makes me appreciate the cooking with the Emiya family series a lot more as well. Marcelle wasn't so bad in the first episode but she's absolutely grating in this second episode. I found her to be the biggest drawback from the episode and on the whole kinda wish she was being digested in the red dragon instead of the sister.

@Tamago006 How the heck isn't losing the food their biggest concern? Without it they couldn't survive back then for long because they didn't have someone who could teach them to cook and SURVIVE from the dungeon resources. Heck, the main moral in this episode blurted by Senshi is that you need proper nutrition to fight and move on in the dungeon. This is some massive plothole.

Both are the same thing, it's taking responsability for the party's survival in one way or another, and losing their food supplies falls on both Chilchuk's hands for failing to detect the trap that took them away and also on Laios' hands for not retreating from the dungeon after facing the reality that they could no longer advance without supplies.

Replicate the same principle in a mountain hike, or a boat trip and it doesn't work at all. You either need the keep your supplies secured or have the knowledge to survive from the environment.

@PotionDweller this screenshot has me hollering. I've watched that scene a couple times and it's glorious. What a relatable struggle as well, you want your contribution to the party to matter and can get self conscious if you feel like, or get told, that you don't. Great episode.

I can see game devs giving Senshi early access keys to their pre-alpha games, so that Senshi can found their exploits and glitches for them. I mean, using dungeon traps to make deep fried dishes is just way too exploity.... wwwww

At this point, I won't even surprised if someday Senshi just somehow perform an ACE and then the party just somehow got teleported straight to the dungeon's final room. Senshi is just way too exploity....

Seems to be a show where they will have multiple little adventures in a dungeon that will end in them discovering a new monster dish. It’s a little worrisome because I don’t know if the concept is interesting enough for this to work. I am excited to get more focus on Chilchuck though. (7/10)

Another great episode, this time we see the strengths and weaknesses of our protagonists. Like Marcille attempting to gather mandrakes, or Chilchuck using his skills to manipulate traps so Senshi can cook. By the way, Marcille's reactions are quite amusing.

@HotRodster In the manga, it's pretty episodic/slice of life until around chapter 30ish when the main adventure storyline starts to pick up. As Trigger seems to be adapting 2-3 chapters per episode I'm thinking around the start of the second cours will be when the shift happens.

A beautiful, slice of life, adventure show! We don't get enough of these man! I wish people would realize that slice of life + adventure is just as good of a combination as action + adventure. Actions isn't necessary in order to make an adventure interesting nor does it need to be the source of conflict. Of COURSE, by action I mean long winded shounen battles, not little scuffles between man and nature. 9/10 episode.

I love how the roles of each character is highlighted and emphasized. I was surprised at how Chilchuck had to use his hands and knowledge to disable traps and it wasn't some magic spell like in other shows or games. Watching him modify the traps and use them to cook is something I've never seen in any other show. Marcille's disgust with eating monsters is getting to be more and more understandable the more the show goes on. At first, I didn't realize that the monsters anatomy and ingredients would vary so much. I thought it was just all "meat", like, what's the difference between monster meat and animal meat but now I know better. Monsters are gross.

Chilchack has consistently one of the best characterisations I’ve ever seen in anime.

Bro is a grumpy dude in his forties trapped in a halfling’s body.

And it’s a sight to behold.

Marcille, my beloved. Marcille has been great in these first two episodes.

I enjoy the character chemistry that builds from obtaining food from hunting and eating dungeon monsters.

I cannot wait to see what crazy dishes/monsters this party will cook up and eat, especially Marcille.

The whole mandrake thing was hilarious and it was really neat that letting them scream made them less bitter.

Marcille after getting an earful of mandrake was the highlight of the episode for me.

Well done Studio Trigger. This show is aesthetically, compositionally, and visually stunning. The characters are all funny and charming in their own special way. This anime is just so chill and fun.

I also enjoy the 'story' and 'world building' of this fantasy world. It's interesting how tightly they intertwine dungeon exploration with cooking. I.e. using oil from traps to fry food.
