Interesting to know more about Helck, his past, and relationship with his brother Cless. It's actually kinda charming to see how the two used to get along. It's also shown that Helck was a geninuely kind person in the past as he tries to save him.

Not surprising though. Even in the present, he's still kind but obvously more badass.

New Helck OP. I don’t think it’s as good as cour 1, but it’ll grow on me.

So after getting blue balled last week we finally get Helck and his brother’s backstory. It’s as tragic as you’d expect. The two of them living a life of poverty and struggle. Being bullied and fighting for survival. Always pulls at the heartstrings to see little kids having to go through that.

When his little brother fell ill and Helck went from house to house to get help, it reminded me of Lante’s backstory from Niehime last season.

Heartbreaking that instead of trying to help a defenceless child people’s first reaction is “where did you get that money” 🤦🏽‍♂️ even going as far as to punch Helck, like wtf.

Fortunately, Raphaed took them in and gave them a fair shot at life. Cless even working his way up to being a knight and a very well respected one at that. While things went well in the second half of the episode, you couldn’t help but feel a sense of dread knowing that something surely is going to happen to Cless. 😢 wish he and Shalamy could’ve got together at least.

Not sure I like the idea of having two back-to-back flashback episodes, but I've to accept that it's necessary to know Helck's background before the story moving on.

@phantomfandom

At least this flashback is a smooth tie in and makes sense logic wise, Helck only opened up to Vamirio after trusting her.

Especially since we’re going into the second cour and knew almost nothing about his background.

The new opening, it's decent enough. Not exactly a track I'd call a playlist banger, but it's alright.

Look at little Helck, facing all those jerks in the human realm. Lol, little Helck and his super healing, what a sight. That expression on his face was quite amusing. After dealing with such despicable characters, this city is in dire need of a revolution.

And here comes the time skip. Cless has really grown up. But where's Helck? Cless is quite the good boy, though a bit naive. When you think about it, you'd expect the kingdom to have a way to test people for hero potential, considering it's a well-known role in history. Lol, nice way to play matchmaker, Helck. That glass of hers compared to the others, quite the contrast. I do worry about a noble lady being out without any guards, to be honest.

That cliffhanger ending... and onto a new ending theme, which I quite like.

Wow, easily one of the best episodes of the series so far imo.
The flow of that flashback story felt so natural, it was tragic for the most part for sure but captivating, super interesting.

The fact that Helck is such a strange Hero (his comical 'use' of the sword in a previous episode among other things) starts to make a lot of sense to me with that backstory.
The author seems to have spend a lot of time thinking about how his hero became who he is now, and it shows :)
Also loved the cute little love story being implied for Helck's younger brother, and more than anything that one moment where Vermilio just spits her hot cocoa because of how ridiculous Helck was already in his childhood haha: has to be my favorite moment this episode.

It seems we'll continue with the backstory next week, I can't wait :)
Oh, and I really enjoyed the new op and the new ed, I think they are really great: I love them even more than the first ones actually.

What a touching episode, Helck has always have such a strong will and positive attitude even after all the horrors from his past and Cless had such a strong sense of justice wanting to protect everyone including those awful people and then there was that glimpse of some of the heroes before selling their souls.

I like the new OP, pretty catchy but I liked specially the ED it has such a sad and nostalgic feeling, it reminds me a lot of Suara's songs and Utawarerumono.

judging from cless all skinless and chsined in the opening im guessing he was later used by humans to mass produce heroes.
When Helck says he killed him i believe it was more of a "put him to rest" than an actual fight, now that he lost his brother he doesnt have to put up with humanity and is ready to end the products of his brother suffering.
its prob not that deep but the story should go somewhat along those lines

@phantomfandom almost the entire cour will be a flashback. But trust me the flashback is by far the best arc. All sorts of pay off and tragedy. We are just dipping our toes in rn

Oh boy this is the arc yall, we finally here. The switch up on this show will be legendary. New op song is pretty good, like it a lot more then last cour’s. Visuals are so dirty. It’s one of those moments that seems innocent but makes manga readers scream “OH NAH, THEY DID NOT JUST, OH HEELLLLLL NAH”. Ed song is even better imo, a great emotional song, gonna hit different after some of these episodes

Stop it with the red flags!

But seriously, this is probably the first time I really enjoyed the show for it's serious plot. Previously it only hit with the comedy and there was too little of that recently. I hope this transitions from the flashbacks to the main plot aswell.

But next week is probably "The Life of Helck, Part 2"

<insert oh wow TinTin meme here>

I swear, if the author is older than 12 years old, I'll be completely shocked.

If those preteens bullying Helck and his brother had a richer iron diet, they could have too twisted their mustaches like the adults do. Every single character is a douchebag towards the brothers until the very last moment when things are in a do or die situation to the point of being laughable as cheap misery porn. You're telling me that in their whole life in the capital not one soul were charitable towards these 2 kids, but only in the last seconds before dying they found out the single embodiment of charity in a cesspool of a-holes that turned their lives around? Come on...

Also, why the heck does Cless look like he's 6 or 7 years old in the early flashbacks, but he's supposedly to be 3 years old and allegedly malnourished? Shouldn't he look even smaller and in worse shape if they aren't getting enough nutrients on daily basis?

We finally get Helck's backstory, it starts tragically with their parents being killed by monsters, then they move to the capital where they have to eke out a living as poor orphans bullied by one and all. A young noble lady takes pity on Helck who is begging someone to save Cless, her father does and Cless ends up becoming a knight who may or may not be in a relationship with the young noble lady.

Wonder where this is going ...

The 2nd Cour's OST...is just decent, not as good as 1st Cour's.

Helck's backstory as to why he's this way: he, along with his younger brother Cless, are village orphans who had nowhere to go, and the royal capital was the only place they could go...to get tortured by nobility. The thing is, Helck has had his hero powers awakened early, even though he and Cless had the minimums and still can feel optimistic about their poverty, there's no need to be rich. But Cless suffering from malnutrition, Helck has no choice but to take matters into his own hands to secure his brother's life, no matter how hard the journey can be from nobility prohibiting them everywhere they go.

A girl hearing the commotion, and pleads with her father to save his brother, without any prejudice, which Helck is sincerely grateful for. And as time passed, their lives begin to turn for the better, with Cless grown to be a formidable infantry regiment captain, which Helck is happy for. Turns out, the brothers were saved by the Raphaed family supported by the royal kingdom, and the family's daughter Shalamy held no prejudice to the good of their kind. Raphaed also senses Helck's hero powers, though it's not as apparent as his younger brother's. Of course, love is in the air for both Cless and Shalamy, and the brothers' time were mostly apart, though the times together between the trio were some of the most memorable.

A sad backstory for Helck, and this backstory isn't done yet.

Shalamy is the real MVP. Thought for sure Helck would've snapped and formed his hatred for humans from that rough childhood but it looks like that's still to come, and I'm morbidly excited for when it does.

I wasn't ready for the new OP to be so funky (and sort of Halloween-y?). New ED is fire too.

Why did it take this show so long to get here? Most of the episodes we've seen so far just feel like filler at this point. I could've just not watched most of them and missed pretty much nothing. Is this gonna be one of those two cour shows that could've easily been one cour if they'd just cut all the useless nonsense out?

Good flashback episode but not much Vermilio screen time unfortunately (except when she spat out her cocoa when Helck told her he could heal himself at a young age).

I'm curious with what happened to Helck's brother and, to a lesser extent, Shalamy. Btw I noticed one of the soldiers out in the field sort of resembled one of the heroes that was shown earlier fighting the demons but maybe it's just the art style, we'll see.

Damn his backstory started off sad, then inspirational and then it ended with despair as Helck closed it with that ominous foreboding. But I must say they really nailed the emotional scenes cuz even I nearly shed a tear when Helck was running through the snow, desperately trying to save his brother. I'm really curious on what put them at odds, I kinda remember the show mentioned he was guilty of fratricide, unless I imagined that? idk man great ep tho

Huh, so Cless ended up as a Captain, while Helck was just working in normal physical labor...

Interesting how they're doing time skips back and forth.

.

The bros got lucky with the semi-generic "saved by a girl" scenario. Where the girl was also a higher class noble than the other nobles and the father wasn't corrupted like the others.

Well... looks like the Flashback is going to show Helck meeting with all the "evil awakened" that used to be his friends during his traveling... and probably what happened to make them turn evil.

.

And yea, I hope the noble girl doesn't end up dead... even tho that's the most likely scenario as the childhood friend dying is very genericly used as a reason for the MC to go on a revenege. (which is Helck wanting to take revenge on humans)

Oh look a new oped for the past story arc, appreciate their effort there to change for a better view even though i don't think this new oped quite impactful.

But damn that bumpfist bro, must be hurt having those cliffhanger for real.

Ngl when Helck was about to lose Claess in their youth phase, i thought he would become Gon. Alas its just being postponed by the fate, as how a kind rich kid unexpectedly arrive and save them ass.

Claess decide to be a hero while Helck, just being Helck. The helck? Imagine if the young brother kept his mentality weak and let his fate decide by Helck with their original intention to go adventuring. Can all the wrong path denied?

Otherwise, welp, that's the first chapter, and let's just wait patiently for the next then...
