| good episode! I couldn't help but laugh though at some parts. like the weird magical girl transformation with miyo floating, then when they were like alright, let's go - proceeds to float away into the sky LOL not that it was inherently bad, I just think it's funny when shows add little quirky moments like that. my happy marriage is a good anime. it does a good job at adding drama. my biggest issue is that there were way too many things going on with villains & characters that I have no idea who they really are or what their purpose is. I'm really hoping this show pulls a Fruits Basket in the second season and builds on those villain characters. I also feel like to top it all off there is very loose definition of what the rules of the world are. why are people praying to a rock releasing monstrosities into the world? like why and how? is the general population being murdered by these things? why did Miyo's nightmares stop, because that was something that only happened within the usuba home's barrier? there is very little world building at all really, because we see miyo go into town but what kind of people live around here? how modern is it (kudo's sister wears modern clothing?)? what is the general culture like? how rich or poor is the general pop? this is important because we are interacting with military ideas but have no idea who the military are protecting and why it's important. it just kinda feels like we are within a bubble and don't get any big picture ideas. Despite my huge criticisms I think my happy marriage has potential. the animation is gorgeous, but beside that, I don't think it's reached its full potential just yet. looking forward to a second season. |

| I thought this ending was so satisfying! I love the arc of Miyo starting off without confidence or self-worth, being saved by Kiyoka, and then finding her true power, her confidence, and saving him. I also like how the ending acknowledges that neither of them are perfect individuals and there will be challenges, but they are willing to face those challenges together because they want to be together. *chef's kiss* I'm not sure Miyo's outfit in the final scene is completely accurate for the time period, but it's nice. |
| First half was easy 10/10, second half 8/10. So, overall 9/10 it is. Miyo's development was absolutely beautiful and her relationship with Kudo was a pure joy to watch. Too bad, that it turned out that Miyo does in fact have some sort of ability, so they went full Deku in that regard. Exactly what I was fearing the most, because Miyo's worth should not come from that ability. Thankfully, they manages to pull it off. Visuals were also spectaculars. Kinema Citrus did not had to grace us with such a beautiful OST and sakuga, but I won't complain. IMO best premiere this season. |

| this was initially an easy 9 for me, then we got supernatural elements and a ton of drama so it became a 8, then we got this other prick in the picture and not enough interactions between miyo and kudou so i'm torn between a 7 and 8 but i really liked the post-credits so screw it, i'll just give it an 8 lol. but yeah, miyo looked amazing right at the end. basically a prologue season, i imagine the next season to me much better all the way through and i'm glad it's already been announced. |

| Now that is how you write a drama and romance. The pacing and music was repetitive at times but with quality animation, directing, and a strong English dub. This show is worth your time. You're missing out. Easily one of the best shows of the season and I'm so happy to hear it is getting a season 2 even though it was given after episode 1. Thank you Netflix. |

| Not a huge fan of the finale, the whole "talking with yourself and overcoming you fears and/or insecurities" trope is a little overdone for me personally, didn't find it heartfelt, just cheesy... Just as I felt with the emotional manipulation in regards to Miyo's upbringing, the "happy go lucky" atmosphere of the final episode was also a little too much lol Still, a great series, just some minor things that weren't for me. Miyo was a great character, the supernatural elements interlaced with the story quite nicely and it had the best soundtrack of this season. 8/10. |
| What a pleasing finale and the post credit scene did it. Can't wait to see their happy marriage life on the next season. I'm glad it ended on a good note with Kiyoka and Miyo together. |

| Very happily ever after ending. Kind of unexpected. I feel like there has to be more from the Usuba family. This change feels very drastic. They made such a big deal about not allowing Miyo to leave their household but then they just let her go? When Arata let her go at the hospital he couldn't have known that the old dude got blown to shit in that dream conflict. If this change of heart was genuine, then wtf were they doing all those years when they knew Miyo was living in those shit conditions? That's why I feel like they have been manipulating her or at least it's like "oh shit we're getting external pressure to recover Miyo since her abilities are coming back" so then they finally bother to go get her. Did gramps really not give a shit but after spending a short amount of time with Miyo he's like ah shit turns out I regret what I did to my daughter so imma let you leave. |
| I'm not going to lie; it's not bad, but I'm not the biggest fan of the supernatural subplot. Though the animation of the action scenes was great, I just wasn't feeling it. On a positive note, I really love the after-credits scene. It looked like they were going to get married soon. I need more of those! |

| That was a pretty good final episode. Miyo, after using talk no jutsu on her other self, unlocked her full dream-maiden powers and saved Kiyoka from the ghouls. Really glad that they cleared things up with each other. If it's one thing I hate in anime, it's misunderstandings and people not being able to fully convey their feelings to one another. Shit drives me up the wall. I honestly don't know if I would've liked this more or less if I watched while it was airing. I will say though that from episode 9 to the first half of ep isode 11 it started to irk me a bit with them going to the Usaba house and everything leading up to Arata telling Miyo that she couldn't have her kimono back. Everything after that sat pretty well with me. One for sure it that, instead of giving into the FOMO and binging an anime on the day of the final episode while it being a work day, I'm just gonna watch it day one deal with having to keep up with it. I think I enjoy it more that way then doing what I just did. Cause it definitely feels more like catching up with everyone rather then enjoying it and I prefer the latter. Anyways, I loved this show. It really took me on a rollercoaster ride of emotions and ending with satisfying finish. Loved the two leads, especially Miyo, and antagonists did a good job of making me hate them. The visuals were absolutely stunning and the soundtrack matched it very well. And the story, albeit might've been better without the supernatural part, was pretty good. Also getting a season 2 which is hype. I'm hoping that it'll focus more on them being a couple instead of the supernatural stuff but I'll take what I'm given. |

The animation quality of the whole series was really great! Miyo looked so fine at the end as well ❤. Both Kudo and Miyo are now reunited and the beginning of a happy life I guess. Season 2 also confirmed 🔥 |
| Kinema Citrus did such a good job with this show.. the animation and art was really beautiful and so was the score by Evan Call. That being said, I didn't really care for the supernatural stuff, I wouldn't have minded if they spent that time focusing on their relationship instead. It feels like in the later half Miyo and Kudou were separated most of the time. I'm glad this got a second season though and I will be watching |

| I never fully got onboard with the supernatural element. I think it could do with being explored more. At the moment I'm just assuming Kudo has a invisible mana gauge or something. Maybe in season 2 we'll see more happy marriage fluff. If the finale is anything to go by then Miyo should quite different going forward. 8/10 |

So, initially this would be an easy 8/10 for me, but i must again complain about the supernatural element of the anime.
While the fantasy aspect certainly was an important part of the story, and the characters, i still would like the show more without it. Somehow the whole supernatural felt odd, every time it took focus, it just all felt really cheap, and out of place, like if the author had it all planned and ready, and then the editor was like "add some magic so its more marketable".
I don't know, maybe it would be better if this was just about Miyo rediscovering what it is to be human, and her struggle in a "new, for her unknown life", and that would be enough.

I get that the supernatural element is apparently an integral part of the story since that supernatural ability is one reason why Miyo is special (but just ONE reason, she's special regardless of it), but I can't help but feel it's out of place. Sometimes, it feels like I'm watching a completely different show with these Grotesqueries and what not. Still, for me personally it's not exactly an 8/10 but closer to it than 7/10 so it's still a 8/10 on MAL for me. |

| A wonderful finale for the season! I was surprised at the characterization we got from Miyo through her alter ego. It's been a back-and-forth how much depth she actually has beneath the shyness and coping mechanisms, but it was very clear especially in this episode how her real personality's starting to show through. Both of the talks in-dream and in post-credits scene were sweet. Just an appropriate amount of sugar for my heart :) <3 |

| Alright. Last 20 or so minutes of the show. Let's have Miyo speed-running all the character development she didn't have in the past 11 episodes, let's also have her mastering her newfound powers a la shounen MC just so she can save Kiyoka's ass and prove she won't be a burden anymore and lastly, let's ignore the whole "You are an Usuba. You MUST stay at the Usuba house" speech from the last two/three episodes and let her return to Kiyoka for the cheesy shoujo-like happy ending. Yeah... this final episode indeed felt kinda rushed. And so "My Unhappy Engagement" comes to its end. Well, the first season at least. Considering Kinema Citrus already announced a sequel and there is also the OVA episode that will air in March 2024. Overall, typical shoujo story featuring poorly executed drama that relies too much on emotional manipulation of the audience and not-so-polish supernatural elements that felt like a last-minute addition to attract more readers/viewers. Outstanding production values aside, the show's narrative felt boring and repetitive and I found Miyo to be a rather bland FMC. Her poor emotional state was her only character trait and the fact of the author constantly using said emotional state as excuse to instigate most of the dramatic situations in the show ended up leaving a very bad taste in my mouth. After all, let's not forget that most of the problems in this last third of the series could have been avoided if Miyo had only said that she wanted to stay by Kiyoka's side instead of the "I don't know" bs. In retrospective, I think the ONLY aspects I truly liked about this adaptation were its visuals (animation, color palette, background art, etc.) and some character designs. Cast was mostly one-dimensional, the Saimori family (mainly Kaya and the stepmother) were evil to the point of being cartoonish and Kiyoka is your run-of-the-mill ikemen that you can see in almost every shoujo manga. And last but not least, I also gotta say that the OST in general didn't end up being as remarkable as I expected it to be. Such a shame considering it's the composer of Violet Evergarden but well. Now let's hope he redeems himself with Sousou no Frieren this upcoming Fall season. 4/10 - Kiyoka's sister was cool tho. Almost forgot about her. |

| I thought the show excelled more when the fantasy elements were in the background and the daily lives of being in the marriage were the focus. Appreciate a stronger Miyo now, but I do wish there was a little more downtime and for us to see her do her own introspection. It didn't help that I felt like there's nothing concrete with the abilities, with stuff just adding up along the way Them reaching home and getting this feeling of being away for so long was exactly my feeling. I wish we had a little more of that to space out the hectic 2nd half. |

| So, at the end of it all, Miyo's worst enemy was... herself. Kind of that "Dark Link" vibe. It's good that she realizes it a little bit every episode, so her character doesn't stall in that apologetic girl. |

| I thought this was mainly romance anime because of the title, but it went full magic. I just find it weird that Miyo can use and control her powers like she’s a pro. Hahaha! Definitely a 7/10 for me. |

| A nice ending, though it didnt blow me away entirely because it was pretty predictable. That said I noticed the animation was done quite nicely where even little subtle movements were added in and I think that was a good voice acting performance for Miyo by Ueda Reina. It was nice seeing Miyo to work past her inner struggles and in a visually interesting way though I am a bit confused as to why they occurred in Kiyoka but I assume it has to do with when she's in this dream world it's also her dream too. I like the romance in the series but mainly the focus on Miyo's trauma effecting her so horribly and it wasn't done in a way that felt off it just seemed completely like how someone in her situation would act. I look forward to more of this. |
