Moe is not what's destroying the anime industry. According to the summary you linked it's more like bad marketing strategy, and planning by animation studios. It's a product aimed at a niche market, so it'd be better to produce less, but well done moe shows are still well done (lulz) and satisfy lots of ppl.

Welcome to the internet. BTW constraining yourself to an environment with only others with the same taste is hurting objectivity A LOT. And you are clearly not objective...

You just dug your own grave with that one. Bashing on others because of their taste is borderline disgusting. Different ppl different tastes. You judge him by his anime list, well done there, it's very possible that someone with shoujo animes in his favourite list is far more manly than you are.
And WTF is wrong with being a pervert? I know i am one - big time. You need to vent out some gas from time to time, and you are better off by watching crazy perverted stuff and playing video games instead of going around raping gals and killing and torturing ppl. Just my 2 cents...

But I'm just feeding the troll yet again and stating the obvious i guess... oh well.

(A lot of moe haters here, eh? *laughs from sidelines*)

I'm indifferent to this show as of now. It has its ups (animation, imagery, music) and downs (characters, mainly). I'll wait to see whether it picks up or not. I doubt I'll drop it regardless--it's only 12 episodes long.

I'm still troubled by the character's apparent ages coupled with the fact that they are army personnel.

Moe was definitely overdone in the generic way. Sora no Woto is, according to me, not at all close to the type of moe generic series have these days. For instance, if you call Haibane Renmei a moe series, then I have no problem with that...but this was much more Haibane Renmei than generic moe.

Example of bad moe = Koihime Musou
Example of good moe = Aria the Origination

Omg, I facepalmed really hard at that one. So males cannot like girly anime? Is that it? Judging from your list, your taste of manga is very manly (actually decent) However, don't use "un-manliness" and stuffs like that in to insult others because of their "feminine" taste. First of all, Cardcaptors Sakura is a perfectly watchable series for guys. Second of all, what do you care about other people's "manliness"?

Nice saying, but when half of the ep got wasted on a moronic girl doing stupid things then get lost and play trumpet instead of training on how to fight or be useful in a supposed to be serious war time, one gotta wonder whether this show will belong to the low percentage of moe anime that actually focus on the GDODAMN plot or the high percentage of moe shit anime that strive to shove as much as possible cute stuffs in us poor spectators' arses... Well, I know some may enjoy that kinda thing, and they're free to enjoy what they want, no prob. However, when there's nothing but that kinda moe shit over and over again, that's worrying...I mean, it's as worse as Hentai if an anime has no plot watsoever and just all about moe this. moe that, just like how Hentai has nothing besides sex ( Well, I don't watch it so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong but based on some testimonies I obtained, most if not all of 'em are plotless anyway...).

I wasn't even aware of this show's existence until after my friend told me this was one of the winter season shows he planned to watch and how it seemed like K-ON. So I figured "what the hell" and just feel like watching and while it does obviously share a resemblance with K-ON as far as character designs and a couple of personality traits, it was suprisingly entertaining.

I story was interesting, I liked the music and the settings, and the characters seem interesting. And when I was done with the episode and looked up the staff of the show on Anime News Network, I noticed some of the interesting people behind the anime. The director also did a handful of episodes of Cardcaptor Sakura, one of the background artists also did artwork in Akira and Howl's Moving Castle, and music composer also did both Nabari no Ou and the first Fullmetal Alchemist anime. And her work was amazing to hear in this first episode!

So I'm definitely gonna watch more of this series. My only concern is that it doesn't raise my expectations later on only so I could feel disappointed like K-On did. Though for now it's too soon to tell. And speaking of comparisons, I couldn't help but also compare this show a little to Strike Witches in terms of the military setting and the interaction between the main characters. However the end result of So Ra No Wo To seemed to take the military references more seriously than Strike Witches in my opinion.

The only thing I want is a plot. And a plot that stays. Not like K'-ON which was about girls wanting to perform on Japans biggest stage, but in the end, it was about teenage girls doing moe and tsundere things. Then suddenly they could play and had a song.

I just hope there is one, I dont even expect a good one, but at least one they follow.

YES, THANK YOU!!! That's was my EXACT problem with K-ON!! The plot made me heighten my expectations at a slow and steady pace and then about halfway through, the plot was losing it's purpose thus pulling a bait & switch! I mean why even mention the Budokan as an objective in the plot if it none of the characters really cared about it?

And it's not that I hated K-ON. It can be a good show if you don't analyze it whatsoever. It's just that I was ultimately disappointed with it.

The quality of this animation is off the scale. Eye candy doesn't even begin to describe it. The crispness of everything and the scenery in which rapture is the best word I can use for it right now. They deserve the money I'm going to end up giving them someday for the Blu-Ray DVDs of this show.

This is indeed truly a sight to behold and lives up to the hype people have been saying of it. You just don't get animation like this everyday. I'd say it's on the scale of Kara no Kyoukai even. The quality of this show comes fewer than one out of a hundred every anime shows. I've only seen the first episode, but when you see something like this it's pretty much sold. Unlike those people who say "you can't judge an anime based upon first episode".

This show is god tier. Nothing can remove that at this point.

Characters are likable so far. Kobayashi Yuu did a good job with Rio, and the rest are moe, nice.
I'm hoping the lack of other instruments mean that this will have a plot not entirely filled with music and moe-ness...If the military part is just for looks then I'd be extremely disappointed. ._.

That was only ok. The art/animation is nice, and I like the characters/character designs. But it was really boring, and I just can't see how much they can do with a girl learing to be a military trumpeteer. But, I could be wrong, I'll definitely give it another ep or two, just on the art/animation bases alone. Maybe it'll turn out to be a good show, doesn't look too promising from here though...Urahara Out!!

Yea, I liked the background scenery is what I meant about artwork.. The setting is good to me since it seems like a war-time period. The characters were very moe.. maybe more moe than K-ON since they, especially the main, looks like a 7th-8th grader..

In the anime world, 15 year old moeblobs like Kanata are able to enlist in the army.

She isn't really a soldier. I mean, in lots of wars in the past they had drummer boys that were like, 10 years old. She is just part of an army band.

In the beginning when she was on the train, the sergant called her private. That means she's holding the first rank after enlistment, if this is meant to resemble standard military procedure...Urahara Out!!

It looks somewhat promising, too early to tell. Do like the fact that its setting is based off of Spain, which kind of adds a nice, rustic feel to it. I'm just hoping they aren't planning to overdo the moeness, there's already tons of people bitching about it as it is.

Honestly I really liked it, it has this bittersweet, warm atmosphere about it. I was definitely going to watch this depsite everyone going on about how it was going to be a K-ON! ripoff, and it exceeded my expectations. The background scenery art was especially gorgeous that it made the characters look plain in comparison.

I loved the music choices! Especially the opening by Kalafina and the French Insert Song. Does anyone know what the French Insert Song is called? I really wanna know actually.

Fact: If it didn't rip the K-On art style, nearly no one would be comparing the two so completely. Shit makes me rage. I really think it's too early to make such absurd claims, but we'll see. It could very well turn into K-On with guns.

Well, it's not that it's a bad comparison. Take the characters of K-ON!, invert the mood completely, and you basically have Sora no Woto. That's not necessarily a bad thing, as long as they're distinguished enough to stand as two separate works in their own right.

In other words, if this goes the Comedy SoL route, it'll tank in my opinion. If it stays on the Drama SoL route, I'll really enjoy it.

I think the first episode was good, despite the blatant overuse of still frames to save animation time/money. I'll be on this train for at least the next episode or two.

It sure sounds like an anime for 2010. Unfortunate that it's all about moe. It has such an amazing budget with its amazing backdrop scenery and potential to be a great anime... but it'll always be about the moe. Always. Always. But whatever, I'll bite. I'll keep watching it. Needs more plot though.

If it delves into more than just ridiculous moe girls trying to play trumpets, I'll be quite surprised.

Needless? You call that a good anime? Moe is destroying the anime industryand sales have gone done tremendously in both Japan and the states.

Also, I'm not a troll and don't even know what it is. I rarely every get on the forums, and if I do they are in the clubs that I participate in. Why would I go and make illogical post just to boost how many times I've posted on the forums. Seriously now, I've been a member of MAL and only posted about 250 or so post.

The fact of me replying to you actually makes your trolling more effective. And guess what, everyone likes to troll once in a while. *troll face*

That's not very many I'd have to say. Now if I were a female I would totally understand why you all like these kinds of shows with moe, but when I see other guys watching this I know they are perverts.

Also, AnimeGURU475 your favorite anime is Cardcaptor Sakura and you're older than me.....wow. If I had your taste and showed my girlfriend or any girl in general the type of anime you watched, they'd probably never talk to me again.

(A lot of moe haters here, eh? *laughs from sidelines*)

I'm indifferent to this show as of now. It has its ups (animation, imagery, music) and downs (characters, mainly). I'll wait to see whether it picks up or not. I doubt I'll drop it regardless--it's only 12 episodes long.

I'm still troubled by the character's apparent ages coupled with the fact that they are army personnel.

In war, there is no such thing as too young.
