Good to not have a hiatus in between chapters again. But god, that ending. It seems like Phos can't ever have peace for too long.

I feel like they will—she deserves it. The last page implies that she’s going to face the worst part of herself for closure imo

I feel like that eye is probably Phos's old eye she lost it way back before she got the pearl one. Idk how something like that could have survived and gained sentience but this'll probably be Phos's final fight against his humanity/what's left of it.

I'm starting to think I need to reread the manga once it ends. This used to me one of my favourite ongoing series, but after it reached the space arc it hasn't been the same, and it's consistently deteriorated. Maybe I'll appreciate it more once it's all out, but I'm not hopeful.

I highly disagree, from Journey to the Moon right onto Invasion has been an incredible set of arcs.

Fair enough, but to me the moon arc drastically fell off starting with the strange development of the relationship between Cairngorm and the lunarian. After that, 50% of the arc seemed to revolve around mundane shit they do. I'm not sure if it's because of the release dates of the chapters being far apart, but I've also found this whole arc confusing.

really? it was them getting used to being on the moon, for Aechmea to befriend Phos in order for her to save everyone. its meant to set up future plot points and flesh out the rest of the world similar to how Marley Arc in AOT did exactly that. Just because it isnt as action-packed doesn't make it bad. I also highly suggest checking out some buddhist texts if you are still confused over a lot of the story.

I'm not saying no action = bad at all, I'm just saying the humour & storyline was REALLY odd to me. The tone shift flopped entirely, and the amazing build up to such an arc left me disappointed. Again though, I'll probably reread the manga once it's over to see if I appreciate it more or not. For reference, I used to have this rated a 10 or 9, now it's around a 7-8 for me.

Predicting it now, this manga is going to end after chapter 108 (that, or my theory is going to look really stupid in a few months, lol).

Poor Phos, is the ending of this really going to loop back to the beginning in a way? It would be beyond tragic if gems started being born again from these rocks with human traits….

My experience of the story has been the same as Thorf's. It's not a question of action or lack thereof - I loved the desolate atmosphere of the first part and was just baffled by the levity of the moon arc. It's been getting more interesting again lately though.

In any case I'm very impressed that a manga can pull off such an overwhelming tone shift and not get canceled.

Yeah what made this manga a favorite for me was everything that happened after they go to the Moon. There are so many scenes that blew me away and will stick with me for a long time

i'm like 1000% confident the eye at the end is phos' old right eye that they never got back from kongo, the visual cues just make sense- the very clearly alloy-looking tendrils as well as the color of the iris being the a very similar color. it would also make sense in-lore too, considering since kongo built the eyes for the gems they don't have inclusions and therefore can't get prayed away and could probably gain sentience similar to the rocks. i heard a lot of people saying that it could also be kongo's brother which isn't an absurd theory, but kongo's brother has a pitch black iris rather than the lighter one we see and i think with the current arc it would make more sense for phos to have to face their old vengeful self consciousness. (although in chapter 83 kongo hints that the ice floes are melting so who knows)

phos really just can't have peace, can they.

i've also got no idea whether to think the eye is phos's eye or kongo's brother's eye.

that looks like phos's old eye which could make sense because it looks hateful as it should be, phos didn't pray herself to Nothingness so of course her inclusions will be alive
another theory is that it's sensei's brother, remember that he wasn't transformed into a lunarian so him being alive could make sense
but I am probably wrong as always

Every new chapter you get some sort of cliffhanger showing either any of Phos's brand new transformation or any new bad villain in the making. It's the second case this time around.

Now just hope I still remember the happenings of this chapter by the time the next one comes out.

Confusing for you how? I feel like a lot of these critiques stem from you (self-admittedly) not really getting big picture.
A re-read will probably help it all flow better since you're not waiting months between relatively casual chapters taken at face value, because a lot of the "mundane shit" was essential for developing the story.

Nah I'm sure I'll follow better once it's over, but the love story I can safely say was complete and utter dog shit. There was no need for it, and it got faaar too much screen time. You could've removed the entire plotline from the manga and there'd be no difference.

Dawg, it's literally supposed to be awful. If it upset you, then it did its job. Aechmea is a self-admitted POS who withheld information from Cairngorm and the others until Phos took revenge on the gems. Read ch 88-89 again, he basically admitted to manipulating Cairngorm into distancing themselves from Phos because they were too stable with them around. The grooming undertones throughout were pretty blatant.

That's what I mean when I say the relatively mundane chapters are important for development and need to be reviewed as a whole.

I get that, but it was just so excruciatingly boring. Imagine waiting a month or two just to get a shitty romance section the entire chapter, that's what was happening multiple times. There was no need to dedicate many chapters for it. This definitely works better binged.

Having just re-read the story, I can assure you it's not as bad as you remember it. The only chapter that was dedicated to the two of them was ch 75, and even that wasn't just fluff.

Such is the life of a Manga fan. In retrospect, I appreciated that the chapters weren't rushed because some of them only take like a minute to read through. Much more cohesive without the wait.
