How timely do you update your anime list? Is there any reason why you don't contribute the show or take your time with it? Lately, I've been seeing more and more people with relatively low numbers who "excuse" themselves by saying they just stopped following or are even just too lazy. I often suspect these people are trying to justify the low number of anime watched, but who knows? Maybe it's not as rare as I think and can you give me more examples of why you personally do this?

For anime list: usually every 1~2 episodes
For manga list: depends on on how many chapters I read in a day, usually only one update every day.

I start watching anime and once I stop for a bit, I update. Same for manga. I begin reading, stop for a bit and update.

For my anime, I update it right after I watch something, even if it's just one episode.
For manga however, I update after I finish reading for the time being.

I'm very digilent with my anime list, I update it immediately after every single episode I watch.

My manga list is the complete opposite though. I haven't updated it in nearly 3 years and it's incredibly inaccurate overall.

Finished series: Bulk update either at the end of a series or at the end of the day.

Seasonal series: update after finishing an episode.

I rate any anime or manga I finish. I don't bother doing it for every chapter/episode though, because it sounds like boring micromanagment.

I update my MAL and Anilist lists immediately after watching/ reading something. I worry about forgetting where I left off if I don't update sooner.

I add new episodes right before I begin watching them. If I didn't, I'd immediately start losing track of where I was in a series, especially for seasonals.

I don't understand why anyone would feel like they would need to "justify" low anime numbers, but I do see it on profiles all the time. Usually something like, "I've seen way more anime than this, but I haven't added them to my list because of reasons." I never know if it's true or not, but why do they think anyone cares? Anime numbers are such a weird trivial thing to be worried about.

This usually happens because some people are very aggressive and rude in disscussions without much anime experience. And when someone pays attention to this, they usually say that they simply do not update their sheet in a timely manner.

I normally update my anime list every few episodes, like every 1-3. For my manga list it depends how much of one manga I'm reading at the time. I already know the consequences of not updating my manga list after a massive reading session so I always make sure to update it when I'm done.

For anime -> Usually just right after I finish an episode I update that, sometimes I go instantly into next one so it might an update of 2 episodes at once. It is rare for me to forget to update something.
Manga -> Same, especially that I don't read that much of manga.

Right after I watch an episode. Otherwise, with so many seasonals it would be easy to forget where I stopped.

Not excuses, just reasons. I really struggle to take this seriously from someone with NOTHING on his drop list. You clearly really like anime but there are a lot of people even with accounts here who don't treat it as it's own hobby but just another form of media. Like I get you like anime but seriously not a single show did you start and then decide you just weren't into?

Ah well, I have no drop supremacists on my friends list I don't give them shit for it.

As for myself I mostly update once or twice per day. I'm watching a lot rn because I've mostly lost interest in other things for the time being so theres usally atleast 1 show to add. I also use MAL extensions that track activity so that incentivises me to update day-of though. Kind of cool to see your entire history for the past 3 weeks in an easier to digest form than what mal itself keeps track of.

I rarely choose or subsequently find shows so controversial that I want to drop them. But even if this happens, I just remove them from my list or add them to on-hold, so that I may return to this in the future.

I update it after the first and last episode, in addition to when I reach the 20% mark. The 20% mark is the minimum needed for your rating to count on MAL, so that's why I do it at that point. (for a 12-13 episode show, it's 3 episodes)

If it's airing, I do it after each episode, because sometimes it's not known how long the series will actually go.

I do mine for every episode I watch. I also do this for every chapter, volume, movie, series episode, and book page I go through. I couldn't care less about people seeing my list. I just want to have my list so I don't forget what I have seen and what I haven't. I loosely score from 1-5 so I can easily answer questions about what content I do or don't like.

"Justify"? You ain't gotta justify something as inconsequential as updating your own list, a list which is entirely for your benefit and affects other people almost not at all. I update mine whenever I fucking remember to, and if not, who the fuck cares.

I just update mine to keep track of what I've watched, and where I'm at so I don't retread the same ground.

I update as soon as I've watched an episode/read a chapter. I just like having things be as up to date + accurate as possible, and I enjoy keeping track of stuff that way.

I'm okay now... At least... I want to be able to say that.

I usually update my list as soon as I finish watching a show (or at least the first season), and whenever something happens in the source material (or later seasons) that affects my opinion of the show. Occasionally I just forget to add things though. Speaking of which, I should probably add Chainsaw Man to my list.

Used to be update every time I switch series or stop to take a break. Now more recently, it's update when it's completed or if I feel like it which will take longer than a day. That's mainly since consumption has decreased

Up until 2022, I mainly added my completed shows and my plan to watch shows.
My on hold list stayed the same for several years and my watching list was for the most part empty
In Fall of 2022, that changed. Reason was the "About me" account page option MAL added.

When I saw how barren my page looked, I decided to start adding the anime I plan to watch, from the seasonals, to my watching list. The truth is that I binge my anime, so I don't see a reason to update my profile, unless I've completed the show.

I used to update it after every episode. Now it's more session-based and I'll do it once a day or maybe more if it's the weekend.
