Something I've been noticing, especially this season, the increase of gory content has risen. For the longest time, it seems, that gory content had reduced in the couple of years but this year, it has been increasing.

Of course, we have Chainsaw Man, Cyberpunk: Edgerunners has plenty of gore but even Anime shows that look tame have some gory elements like Isekai Harem, Warau Arsnotoria Sun! and even Shinmai Renkinjutsushi no Tenpo Keiei (we have our heroine kill a giant bear and dissecting it).

I know popular shows like Attack on Titan, Kimetsu no Yaiba will always be gory but this season, even the lesser known or even the CGDCT may have a bit of gore elements. I'm not complaining... I love me a lot of gory stuff... but has anybody noticed that?

Maybe, I'm out of the loop but it seems they've been increasing, as we speak.

Anime are getting more action focused with the increases of more shounen anime which I don’t like much. I’m more into philosophical and psychological kind of things. I hate straight up action series.

How is it back? When did it go out of fashion? Or do weebs have such a short-term memory that they literally forgot about Attack on Titan, Devilman Crybaby, Akudama Drive, Goblin Slayer and Dorohedoro which all are gore(y) series from recent times.

I don't know. I don't really pay attention to that what you're referring to but it likely has alot go do with most shows now days air on streaming services and speciality networks (in Japan) so they can get away with more than previous years.

Gore was always there, just not as much, Mainly cause it won't get airred, and the era of OVA's pretty much has died, Very few works are long OVA's Like Hellsing Ultimate.

I only like that stuff when it's done by Go Nagai. We also need a Devilman Lady reboot. The previous adaptation was not at all faithful to the manga, though it did have a cool opening.

Agreed, I’ve noticed it too. The really good bloody stuff always seemed to be in work from the 80s & 90s, it fell to the side I guess… But I’m getting real sick of the “power of friendship” will solve all scenarios. I want guts, no more handholding

Streaming services are the reason, you can have extremely gory and violent anime uncensored on Netflix or Crunchyroll for example.

Apparently Discotek managed to nab the original uncensored masters for their recent release of Jack btw, which is nice

The Japanese censorship law is stupid and arguably the one thing in their penal code the Americans should've repealed.

These titles you have mentioned above aren't even close to being that gory in my opinion. At most it's gore porn produced for children.

Until we started seeing more anime produce scenes like in "Blood-C", gore in Anime is not even close to being on any kind of rise let alone making any kind of come back.

Until stuff like this...
...actually starts to become a common thing in seasonal Anime, real gore is basically almost non-existent. A true connoisseur of gore porn would likely look at Anime and laugh then turn back to even the most mild of Western torture porn produced in film.

yeah I wish people would be more accurate with their choice of words. I hesitated to watch the Higurashi series for quite a while because the idea of watching a gory series featuring cute anime girls makes me uncomfortable. But as it turns out Higurashi isn't what I would call "gory" at all.

At least it is way more "gory" than frickin' Re:Zero which is another show people who don't know what gore means like to mention.

Those aren't really gory, just a tad bit more bloody than usual. There have been a handful of shows like these in the past few years that are a bit more graphic, like Gleipnir (2020), Angels of Death (2018), and the ones you mentioned, but nothing that truly stands out as gory aside from a select few. Stuff like Tenkuu Shinpan (2021), Baki (2018), Devilman Crybaby (2018), and Calamity of a Zombie Girl (2018) are some examples of recent anime that actually are gory instead of somewhat graphic violence.

I would like to see a resurgance of it, though. Shows like AOT and a ton of others would be way more fun if they didn't pussy out and instead showed everything. Spurts of blood ain't enough, we need every part of the body - inside and out - shown!

I can assure you I don't remotely have scarcely-suppressed hatred towards women. Otherwise I think I would have divorced my wife years ago. It's just a coincidence I happen to share a scene from "Blood-C" that involves an Anime girl being ripped in half. But If you actually watch the entire 1st season of "Blood-C" you will see a lot of scenes like the one above regardless of their gender.

I was simply trying to make a point that this is about the extreme that this medium has to offer in a full length seasonal series in recent history that I have actually watched and this mild Anime scene from "Blood-C" was released back in 2011. Yet this example I have shared still pales far in comparison from the type of gore found in even the most mainstream Western torture porn films. Gore is only really shocking when it's actually photo realistic, something that Anime is completely limited to.

well, here's how I see it:

4 biggest anime in recent years that I can think of are shounen.

and those 4 shounen are jjk, CSM, attack on titan and demon slayer. which are all pretty bloody and gory to different degrees.

so if the biggest shows have a lot of gore, others try to replicate it.

it's kinda like how a lot of shows tried being more experimental in the years after evangelion blew up.

or how edgy magical girls shows became a popular thing after madoka magica.
