From My perceptive, most people care about cool futuristic shit most, and scientific accuracy least.

for me it partly depends on the other genres, but generally the concepts are my favorite part of sci-fi series.

the other 2 are always a plus to have, but they are rarely the main reason for why I enjoy a sci-fi show.

Definitely the unique and intresting concepts for me.

Most sci-fi I watched use their own sets or rules that exist only in their universe. But it's a bonus if its scientifically accurate.

Two things, that are common across all types of shows (not just science fiction): plot and characters.

The plot needs to be solid and make sense to me and the characters need to be understandable in their actions and not seem like they live in a vacuum.

I mean that's kind of dodging the question, but if we look at it that way, yeah character are plot are probably way more important.

not a lot of shows do time travel through the "science" route, usually its just lame supernatural stuff, which the majority of the time is way less interesting when it comes to time travel specifically

just sayin

I guess you are right, I just think that technology can be cool, but if your plot sucks, then it is not worth the hassle of trying to digest it, this is what happened with Star Wars, so I really only care about the first film, Star Trek V almost turned me off the film franchise too. So it is the thing that I care about the most.

Ideas and views on how near of far future might have look like, that's why worldbuilding in stuff like Psycho-Pass, Ghost in the shell or Cyberpunk Edgerunners is so interesting to see what's different in these shows from the world we already know, no matter if stuff represented in the fictionary worlds are possible to achieve or not.

Definitely the tech. It's really interesting to watch stuff like Ghost in the shell and see what the ancient people thought the future looked like which still used wires when we're only in 2022 and tech is largely wireless already even though we have not even caught up to the year in which the story took place

There is quite a lot of variety in sci-fi that there is no particular thing that stands out beyond a good story telling or good characters. Of course if there is emphasis on the science rather then the fiction that might perk my interest but ultimately it's down to execution.

I only have two science fiction shows that I like (or liked), and that's Star Wars and Battlestar Galactica (2004), because it is not science that is explored, but religious themes.

My two favorites are Stargate (all shows) and Battlestar Galactica, and I didn't think I will enjoy anything new sci-fi as much as those shows anymore, but Expanse surprised me a lot. Like any decent sci-fi show It explores everything, including religious themes. But what was really unique is the attention to detail that show has, it actually feels like they're in space, with all the difficulties that space travel would present. They don't just automatically all get free gravity and free air, that stuff has to be earned, and you feel the weight of it. And there's much more details like that, that make it super immersive.

My point is that "scientific accuracy" can actually add a lot to the show, more than people would think at first. It's not always necessary of course, but can be cool.

Most of the sci-fi i watch are about 80% scientifically accurate. It doesnt need to be, but i love a setting with a logic to it, even if it is absurd. Goes hand in hand with unique concepts/ideas like Blame's outrageous blackhole weaponry or Macross' "our starships are so big fleets are literally flying countries" theme

I like some concepts of sci-fi shows, like the ideas they may bring to the table, but I give more priority to the philosophical concepts they bring rather than the scientific ones.

To quote a few:
Psycho-Pass gave me a good insight into what would be the ethical and social concern of curbing crime using a black box system, which may work, but at what cost to emotional and human wellbeing?

Shinsekai Yori and some other sci-fi also focus on the impact of sci-fi on humanity and how it can segregate people and distort their actions heavily.

'Her' was a interesting movie that explored deeply on how interaction with an AI can disrupt relationships between people and it is already happening. Smart speakers and voice assistance are already conquering the niche for preferred human companions who don't argue or disagree with you and it is worth knowing these in advance so that we may be prepared for the next step.

I,Robot still carries a huge place within my heart for many of the questions it poses towards AI, especially the clash between the logical decision making of computers vs the emotional drive of humans.

What matters in the end is not just how technology changes the world, but also how it changes us. The world's answers are right at our fingertips now more than ever, but are we reaching the full potential that it offers us?

We are just like Adam. Technology reaches out to us, yearning for us to take the better change, but we are still hesitant to make the motion necessary to utilize it.

Without change,we end up becoming the very person we hate.

I was dead until the moment I met you. I was a powerless corpse pretending to be alive. Living without power, without the ability to change my course, was bound to lead me to a slow death.

Scientific accuracy rather I look for how LOGICAL it is. "Interesting Concept" can be put in any genre. "Sci-fi" without science is just "Fantasy". Cool futuristic look doesn't mean it's logical or scientific.

There is also a whole subgenre for science fantasy, so where is the problem.

Sci fi is honestly one of the blandest genres in all of fiction. Star Wars and Star Trek are both horseshit. Warhammer 40K is probably one of the only instances in which the genre is done right, if an entire galaxy is at war then you have the perfect opportunity to make a chilling grimdark world and 40K took it.

Really just scale. Giant mega cities, huge space fleets and battles, mass surveillance states, wide interconnectivity etc. Sci Fi will always give you an incredibly overdeveloped future largely. I love that.

Scientific accuracy isn't really important to me though it is cool if the creator does take it into account. Some of my favourite "Sci Fi" settings though do fall more into Space Fantasy/Space opera than real sci fi. As I have gotten older though my appreciation for more grounded science fiction has jumped a lot.

Of course yeah it is a great vector to talk about future problems in the world environmental issues, mass surveillance states, social media, VR, Corporate abuse, etc plenty of topics to dive into.

I will say I tend to be pretty 50/50 these days on Sci Fi/Fantasy preference (as a kid I used to like fantasy way more) but anime just in general does science fiction much better than fantasy. Kinda wish stuff like Cyberpunk, Vivy etc could help kickstart a new sci fi revival in the medium. It really needs it.

I mean I love 40k but literally 90% of it's ideas are stolen from other science fiction like Dune, Starship Troopers, Terminator and Alien lol. Seems kinda weird to decry Sci Fi considering 40k can't escape it.
