I hear ppl have a big distaste for BL. I remember being at MAL Christmas event and ppl were putting BL as a genre to avoid, sometimes even on the forum, people don't show a big interest in it.

As someone who doesn't care about what genres offer, but rather what every individual anime does in said genre. I see no reason to dislike BL.

So, what are the reasons?

What I find attractive is plump butts and most oppai. Dudes lack an attractive ass, curves where it matters, and a body structure that interests me. It is a sex preference thing.

Beyond that, it is hard to relate to bishounen boys.

I did enjoy Yuri on Ice. But that was for other things besides the BL. But other than that, it's just not really my thing since I can't identify with the romances sexuality-wise.

I'm not interested in it, kind of hard to explain why, I think it's just a preference issue.

Different folks, different strokes. We all have our individual preferences. I have several friends who are totally into BL, but personally I'm more of a yuri-fan.

Honestly, just looking from the outside in - seeing popular artwork, reading synopses, learning about popular tropes - a lot of it seems terribly rapey. And as much as I wouldn't mind reading or watching a guy x guy romance, I don't have the motivation to slog through the swamp of terrible smut and portrayals of unhealthy relationships to find a few good titles that would interest me.

For me personally I just don't like romance in general. There are some romances that I have enjoyed but the usual formula of stretching the "confession stage" to the length of the series bores me to tears (admittedly I tend to avoid romance so its a self reinforcing bias but I do also feel like I've seen enough to at least have an opinion). I don't have a problem with BL specifically, but if I am 100% honest In my mind a friendship story is better than a romance so I do sort of subconsciously reject the idea of BL. Then again I've basically only seen banana fish as far as BL goes so I literally don't know what I'm talking about, I guess the bottom line is nobody has sold me on why I should care about BL when I (mostly) don't even care about regular romance.

BL is not something i have ever been into, nothing I have ever been thinking of watching.
I'm not into dudes doing dudes.
But after watching Anime for a few years, like 13, i got myself into watching Given and after that I have watched a few more BL's.

Only watched one so far that i actually like, as the slice of life aspect of the serie was point on, the romance was done correct. It was a well written short OVA or movie that I end up watching.

I have even watched some new 18 + Anime where the devil has a dude as a sex slave, rather bad done in every damn way's possible.

But I have end up watching a few, most of them is garbage in my view, as I'm not into it guys doing guys.

But if it ends up as well done even i can like it.

I recommend you to watch Sasaki and Myano. It is shonen-ai and slice of life anime series which was adapted from the manga of the same name. It is very light and positive series which gives you enormous amount of great and amazing emotions! It is a fantastic series indeed!

I know this must be a huge shock for a "non-binary" alphabet person but there are lots of people in the world, particularly straight men, who are not religiously into shows about dudes touching other dudes balls while squeaking. To be more serious, many people aren't even into dudes cuddling with each other or they don't like romance/slice-of-life shows at all, but I understand that it's more conveniant to assume that such people are homophobic.

Btw, I'd say there are a lot of straight out bad yaoi anime which are only bait-material for sweaty yaoi-fangirls and sexualize the characters. Yeah, women are like that, too. Next shock, huh?

If you (or your brain) were fine, you wouldn't have to lie by implying that people who aren't into yaoi have "fears" or "prejudices". You accuse people without any proof of generalizing yaoi while generalizing the said people. And you don't even see what you're doing. I also don't think that bombarding people with anime trailers will make anything better. You should just get over yourself and let people like what they want. I thought this was THE motto among all-too-good and tolerant people like you. Please think before you write.

Well, that's just a universal accusation. If you want to watch a show about friendship and you don't like the shippers' persistent attempts to make it gay, then you're a homophobe. That is, either you accept their preferences and desires, or you are a bigot.

Yes, it is about platonic relationship. I call it Bromance. No sexual relationship were shown in the series. Although author hints that their relationship is also sexual.

For who likes Boys Love/Shounen Ai/Yaoi, why?

Not a fan of the genre but recognize there are good BL stories.

Liking BL is related to the own sexuality and the answer of your question is obvious.

Even if there was tension, it was never acted upon. I advised it to several heterosexual male friends and 4 out of 5 liked it because the story is not about romance, but the story of Banana Fish.

You spend hours defending yaoi (even if nobody attacked that genre) and trying to get people into it. Moreover you accuse people who don't like that genre of "being afraid" or "having prejudice" and if people like me confront you with that, you avoid giving a proper answer. People like you are the epitome as of why normal people can't stand SJW's, alphabet-people or borderline-gays.

No mission of course and no cult. I am not gay, thanks for worrying. And my llife doesn't concern you.

What? You are totally wrong. I never defended anything and accuse others, stop imagine things. I am not gay. I don't intend to reply to such false accusations. It is your own problem for not liking something. I also don't like some genres and it is normal.

Have a good day.

I just don't. I don't see why I necessarily should either. You are free to like what you like, but that by no means that I have to agree. Beyond that it is a political and religious question for me, so I won't comment more than this.
