That so called "Para RAID" is suppose to be just another means of communications , right???? So how come there were infrasound's that Milize is picking up and turning her crazy?

Para-raid can share the 5 basic senses. Like hearing and sight. Shin can hear these voices 24/7 for 0-24 hours. During an enemy attack when an enemy type called Black Sheep attacks it makes Shin hear these in an intensifyed rate and the Para-Raid shares these voices to everybody who is connected to Shin.

Finally some answers. Shin's life is even more of a trainwreck than I thought. This really does shine some light on that small conversation he had with Raiden at the ending of the first episode. I'm guessing his brother is possibly one of the non-damaged brains they've managed to salvage. What with his codename being a dullahan the ghost symblosim becomes even more on the nose. Clearly he and Shin had some major falling out at the end.

That said they didn't actually explain how Shin's near-death experience led to him being like this. It's like he glossed over it, understandably so, but I hope there's something more to it.

It's interesting that Shin has Giad ties and yet they were clearly living somewhat happily with Rai in the Republic, from what we can see in the ending shots of the past episode. It really makes one wonder when exactly the discrimantion against non-Alba's started.

Another week of Lena suffering, she just can't catch a break. Liked how everyone was genuinely surprised she still called after this and then proceeded like normal. Shows just how used to this they are.

Excellent episode. So many great character interactions and some much needed development for Shin. Now we know why he's so indifferent and detached to everything. The guy fucking hears shit all the time so it's no wonder. I didn't expect Legion to be this.... mysterious entity that's probably not even human?

Have to say though that the action scenes could do with a bit more clarity in their portrayal.

Is what the Alba most likely say. They're a special breed of hypocrites.

Respect the exposition in this show.

The shit with the Legion using human brains is crazy. All the previous exposition on Reaper not being able to properly bury his comrades makes so much sense now. Undertaker's life is fr a tragedy.

I'm seriously looking forward to see how him and Lena are going to try and combat the "inevitable" of the Republic losing the "war". ^^

Isn't a shitty security if everyone can hear the voices? You make a hive-like connection, and whatever happens, happens?

You want something darker? How about the technology and research behind Para-RAID itself?

definitely, I thought I was the only one who thought that . The cg and the sound design is good and all , but it is so hard to make sense of who is doing what . All I can is tell that the undertaker is kicking ass , not how , whose , when or what .

Yeah, the CGI is pretty smooth, but everything just happens too fast. Good thing is that action isn't the main focus of the anime, at least not yet, so it can be ignored.

But if and when there are some more important action scene, it definitely needs to be directed better.

Damn, that's quite the tragic past of Lena, even though I say tragic, she did seem to get over it quickly after Shin's brother taking care of her.

How many mental breakdown does Lena need to suffer, holy shit that was so creepy but so well executed. The psychological elements in this show so far are on point. I do admire Lena's determination facing everything head on, despite the warnings Shin had given her about the "black sheep". All these voices were so damn creepy and I honestly didn't think I would hear Kaie's voice as well.

Second half was pretty great, I love these moments where Lena and Shin are building on their relationship. They get along a lot better now.

Also the scenes transitioning into the ED, keep that up. I love small things like that a lot.

That scar on Shin's neck... No wonder he mentioned that he thinks he has died before. That head looked like it was cut clean off before... creepy yet intriguing, can't wait to see them cover that.

Woah didn't expect that straight System Shock development from the Legion but it's clear now the war won't end in 2 years. Plus the copy of Shin's brother is out there somewhere and likely as a commander tier enemy. The Republic is basically working against themselves by not letting the 86 bury the dead...

Maybe Shin really died once for real? But in that case just what brought him back? I imagine it will be covered later.

Meanwhile Lena gets bombarded with another mental breakdown...maybe she will get used to it. lol

Well, I've made it this far and I can say for certain that I do not care for this anime. The pacing is all over the place, the animation of the CGI portions is unattractive and clunky, and the characterization is jarring, cliched, and unconvincing.

Probably the worst aspect, though, is the handling of mature sociopolitical themes. In a competent piece, these would be approached with some kind of nuance. But here, the dialogue surrounding these issues is constructed of a series of preachy, prescriptive platitudes that feel like they were pulled right off of Twitter, rather than deep character dialogue borne of hard life experiences or complex internal struggles.

In other words, the writer of this story comes off like they have zero experience with issues they are trying to explore, particularly with regards to race and class differences. These topics tend to be avoided for a reason, and this story does nothing to buck the trend.

I'm not surprised to see this series doing well, though. It wouldn't be the first super-cringer to take off, like Shield Hero, Goblin Slayer, or Darling in the Franxx. All of these had the comment element of dealing with mature themes in a really hamfisted way, but having enough fanservice and wish fullfillment to keep anyone pulled in as long as they didn't try to think too hard. Wouldn't even be surprised to see 86 become AOTS.

Great episode with that revelation. The nature of Legion and the true state of the war. Shin explains how he knows the Legion attacks. Great use of visual storytelling this episode and exposition is nicely inplemented.

The first part is about Lena past being saved by Shourei, Shin brother.

The revolution is fast approaching. The fight this episode is good with nice action pieces and the first appearance of Black sheeps. And their true nature scared Lena. Its a great depiction of how uncomfortable and almost break her.

Overall this is the best episode of the series yet

No. Only Shin can hear the Legion. And when there is a "Black Sheep" near him, people who are syched with him are able to hear this aswell becasue the Para-Raid can share what you hear.

He hears basically anybody who got killed by the Legion and it managed to get the fallen brain mostly unharmed. This is important.

If you get blown to bits by a rocket and there's nothing left of you, you won't get absorbed by the Legion. Kaie (Kirschblüte) got beheaded and basically her brain is in good condition, that's why we heard her.

Now I see why the commander shot his friend in the head in the first episode. If his brain is scattered, the Legion won't be able to be use it.

I'm guessing his brother's brain was taken as well. Though I do wonder why his brother tried to kill him? Maybe he didn't and something else happened though they showed a scar on his neck after the flashback of his brother choking him... I don't think a scar like that would appear because of choking though.

The whole trippy noises of the dead and the scene of Milize losing it was pretty cool to watch. I like that they touch on the psychological aspects of it.

Interested in to see what'll happen next though I do wish we got to learn more about the other characters as well.

Small correction. Even if the brain is damaged/decayed post death (novel says decay only, but I guess you can use decay and damage interchangeably? Since damage could also mean degeneration in this context), it can still be used to give rise to black sheep among the legion. Only shepherd need a fresh unharmed/undamaged brain.
But you’re right 86 usually get blown to bits with nothing left of them (cause juggernauts armor is weak and legion have pretty strong firepower and armaments), so it’s not a usual occurrence to have a brain, let alone a good one.

Now I know why the previous handler killed himself because those voices are terrifying. I'm surprised that Lena hasn't considered killing herself. So basically the 86 are fighting the ghosts of their fallen comrades and the can hear their voices. If what Shin says is true about the war not going to end in two years, then the Alba needs to stop using the 86 as meat shields because once the 86 are gone they will no one to do their dirty work. The Alba and the 86 need to work together to end the war as soon as possible or both groups are going to get wiped out.

Black sheeps are the legion that use the brains recovered from the dead in the battlefield and they have only partially uploaded brains due to them being already dead before extraction/uploading, so there are degradation to the gray matter.

Shepherds the opposite have fully uploaded brains with personalities

yeah but do they use them to operate the Legion? my understanding the Legion is operated by AI, so what is the difference between the black sheep and the other ones.

also, what did they base their judgement on when they estimated that the war will be done in two years? and what has changed now

The Legion are capable of replicating a brain's state postmortem and incorporating it into their processing capabilities. The Legion required the assimilation of the deceased to replace their deteriorating central processors, which are programmed to expire after 50,000 hours or around six years of usage time.

There are actually 4 classifications but i will mention only 2 at the moment:

Black Sheep: The Legion that had adopted the decayed brain structure of dead humans, capable of limited human intelligence.

Shepherd: The Legion that had adopted the un-decayed brain structure of living or recently dead humans, capable of full human intelligence and leadership.

With this episode the situation changed, because there are more enemies that the Alba know, and only the 86 know, but the Alba will disregard anything that they talk or that involves them, they are waging a war thinking that they are winning when in reality are lost

And a question arose, if all 86 die, how are they going to fight? Apparently none or few have actually gone to the battlefield and have some training on that

I was worried a few episodes ago saying that the 86 were 5 years in the field afterwards they could retire (I don't remember exactly), but if that were true, wouldn't we see any of them in the city where the protagonist is?

well it was a better done episode and has moved this plot in away that had to prolong the war....but uh i was thinking the legion was just taking the recordings of the coms of fallen juggernauts to use it as some kind of psychological warafre attack vs 86 to mess with them

this was a way less grounded direction than i was expecting the legion to go ,Shin is on that metal gear kojima bullshit hearing the voices of the "ghost"

but i guess it's one way to deal with thinking we were only gonna fight brainless Ai the whole time ...see what i did there anyway this series seems like it's better not trying to read to into the logic of everything

Seeing Lena get flustered by the couple was really cute. I'm interested to see if Lena and Undertaker end up in a relationship later on, I can't help but ship them. Crazy episode for sure. The Legion drones are so intelligent they started using human brains as way to keep their mechanic bodies operating. That explains what Shinei said about wanting to search for his brother.

Another insights from the past. Lena and her first meet with Shin's brother, which unexpectedly became her previous savior. Well, what a fate between them. The conversation was nice back there. However, with how Shin respond really arising some questions for me. Thats the end credit scene for yah! Really looking forward seeing more of Shin's past. Especially when knowing he had the enemy country parents (if i am not mistaken), and how they invited them to the palace, District One, really arising some more questions about that....

The talk about the Black Sheep and the Legion-86 fate in the future also very intriguing. Now the Legion drones can be classify as a living creatures. Interesting ideas. They also both looked very determined and ready to cooperated. I wonder if its the truth or just a gimmick. I can't trust Shin grin, but surely can't wait to see more of Lena depression scenes. Its really a satisfying part xd.

"Don't you get there? It calls, it calls"
"My naked heart can hear echoes, echoes"

These lines from the ending song finally fucking make sense now! Shin died, came back to life, and can hear the voices of the dead. These voices are nothing but the Legion. To be honest, it felt very similar to the evolution of the Chimera Ants, but just the Mecha version of it. Damn, if the Republic just stays so stupid, they are going to be annihilated super fast, without any sign of warning. Time for Shin and Lena to collaborate harder and clap the Legion's asses at god speed.

Perfect 5/5 episode. The critical info dump was really fantastic, and I am completely hooked into the story. Can't wait for more!

Based on the Republic years of propaganda, they'll get fucked up real, real bad. Annihilated is an understatement of how fucked up the Republic was.

Actually, Republic getting annihilated without any remains was better for humanity.

This episode of 86...it truly went full-on dark with its thematics of Lena's history with Shin's older brother Shourei, part of the 86ers and fighting against his own brethren of the Legion.

As if her good pal Annette didn't already provide some hints (of regret) for Lena overusing the para-RAID, her relationship with the Undertaker Shin is getting better, but those "Black Sheep" ghastly voices of dead people, the realism echoes throughout, ringing through her very senses to create paraphernalia so devouring.

Warnings not heeded will only do more to cause personal harm, but even to Shin who can also hear them, it's his trigger to contact firearms against the Legion, who uses dead human brains as their Processors for Black Sheeps, and the deaths don't stop there with the Legion's advancement of new armies and commanders called Shepherds, time is of the essence to act now and act swiftly.

A terrifying start of camaraderie, but one that'll greatly benefit the Republic in time to come to stop the Legion.
