Imagine bullying someone only because she/he has heterochromia. I mean, I personally think it looks absolutely exotic and even beautiful in some cases.
As for Koito, something tells me she is/was homosexual and was being bullied due to her sexual orientation. Just a guess tho.

That said, this was probably the most intriguing first episode of the entire season. It seems this series will be quite the psychological drama (dementia genre even?) so I only hope it can deliver its idea properly. Got some serious Ikuhara vibes while watching, by the way.

Was a character with a reputation for being a prince and a whole bunch of fans bullied because of her homosexuality? Sounds like satire

I confused the characters you mentioned, sorry. However, I still think that at least after the first episode, speculation about homosexuality is too bold.

The Yuri police are here questioning other peoples interpretations. And as usual I guess hen haven't even watch the anime hen having opinions about LOL

This anime have both Yuri vibes and the white lily flower which are a strong Yuri symbol. And the bedroom scene was very sweet and gay IMO

Koito was coming on pretty strongly towards Ai several times during the episode. So the Yuri tones are definitely there even if that upset some people

I, too, was a victim of bullying in midle school, but I never came across anything particularly serious. Does it really convey the experience that realistically?

ngl I only watched this cause of Shuka, Tomori and Hinaki but this is actually pretty good.
For most of this first ep I had no idea what was going on but the premise is quite interesting and it seems pretty unique.

i was bullied a bit, but before that i was a bully myself, and to this day i struggle to forgive myself. i've never done anything truly bad, but now i am aware how deadly the smallest thing could be, when put on the top of a big pile of other 'small' things.

My condolences. My childhood was spent in a military city, so our children were mostly more or less restrained. At the same time, sometimes I am scared to see what happened in other cities of Russia or some Western countries. The kids seem to be more violent than before.

thank you and i'm sorry you were bullied too. i see... i think experiences vary. though, Japan always scared the shit out of me in that sense, the bullying practices there are just so extreme. but i think it's a good sign that this anime is being made? let's hope for the best.

Thank you, it is quite difficult to be a representative of a national minority in the right city, even if you are Russian in the other half. I agree, I hope that through such anime people will be more aware of this.

I would have been a nice standalone, but who knows how this series will proceed - uphill/downhill/steadily decent. Direction style reminds me of Lain at times - (perhaps because I started it recently) blend of expressive abstractions inviding reality and attention to sound design used to guide and orginize attention into a certain emotional rythm. Be it harmony of abruptness. Not saying it's similar, but i see some inspiration.
Production-wise it is obvious that the effort and skill here is bigger than in your typical seasonal anime, but this alone didn't prove quality of the series just yet.
I'm sticking with this series, we'll see how it goes.

Honestly, I am very positively surprised. I must have really skipped over this when I did research on the winter shows and here I am, 4 days later finding this hidden gem. Production value looks incredible, the art-style is really nice and animation was amazing to look at.

Now, the story can go anywhere from here. Even though I have a gist of what is happening in the show, it just has so many questions yet to be answered and I can't wait to discover those answers. Since this is an Original Anime, I can't wait to see what they will throw at us.

Heterochromia has always been something that fascinates me, not just from Anime as its something Japan uses a lot in Anime, but also the real life cases with Animals and Humans. I just can't wrap my head around the fact that someone would bully Ai for it :( I guess there are people out there who finds it freaky.

A very promising and strong start, unexpectedly so.

Flip Flappers, anyone?

Getting serious flashbacks, watching this. Maybe this feels a little more mature.

Excited for the next episode.
Themes, Animation Style and the overarching, kinda dark atmosphere is right up my Alley.

Also...Shocked every time I see this "Kids writing *DIE* all over someones desk/locker" - Trope. Is this a real, japanese thing? It scares me...

@Merve2Love The Japanese really love it, but it's not an exclusively Japanese thing. For example, Mila Kunis told how one day an anti-Semitic insult was written to her Jewish classmate with a wish to die on a school chair.

This is what I call a good original anime. You don't know what to expect from this, you are intrigued by every episode and you will definitely be discussing the ending long after the airing ends.

I just came here, since someone told me that Cloverworks is animating a good sh*t right besides from Horimiya and Yakusoku no Neverland. I wasn't disappointed to this anime, and it looks promising. It's still confusing, but the premise is interesting. The visuals reminds me a bit of Kyoto Animation, though both are still artistically different.

Cloverworks never fails to amuse me: I knew it could be a top tier studio when they animated Bunny Girl Senpai and FGO.

I have not a f clue about what is happening, but the art style and animation looks super great, and still if we don't clearly understand everything for now I guess we will have more answers later.

I'm curious for the next episode. Ai's character seems to be more complicated and deep than just a girl in need for a friend, getting bullied. Are the eggs reals? Is this only some dreams, her imagination to try to think she could revive her friend?

Futhermore, as I could read with people comments + the characters on MAL's anime page + Ai's reaction seeing the last girl (Neiru) in the episode, maybe the anime could rotate around sexuality and gender quenstioning.

I'm absolutely in love with this show now. The animation style, and soundtrack (as well as sound design) feel on the level of a Ghibli film. Art and animation are absolutely beautiful, they're practically movie tier (CG aside). I especially love the main character's design, she's like an anime Coraline. Not sure where the story will go but I'm curious enough to want to continue.

Very intriguing premiere! Tone, designs, sound, animation are top notch! It's only the first episode and the story is presented in a cryptic way so I still can't comment much but I was definitely engaged from beginning to the end. Thinking about it though I think I managed to make sense of what was happening and what mysteries have been set up. Working for that bug will backfire I feel. Doesn't seem trustworthy. No one brings people to life just like that!

The show also gave me a lot of Madoka feels. I just hope it manages to remain distinct enough!

Very interesting premise. Kinda reminds me of Madoka Magica. I was surprised to see that the studio behind this is CloverWorks. At this rate and with so many great shows, they will definitely become one of the top studios of current times. The animation and character design is really good. Can't wait to see something very tragic happen in the next few episodes.

Okay so this is basically a mix between Serial Experiments Lain, Madoka Magica and Flip Flappers but it's all about bullying. I don't really know how to feel about it because I both liked and dislikes this episode.
The whole thing about bullying and how the worst thing about that how people turn a blind eye to the victim's suffering is something I don't think I ever seen being adressed in anime so it makes me happy, even more since the symbolisms are some very smart ones, but at the same time it makes me feel very uncomfortable.
I am not a victim of bullying myself but I have been close enough to be one to understand how painful it must be to actually be one so it's something I'm heavily sensitive about (and also because it's simply normal to care about victims of bullying and feeling something when the subject is adressed in a media... Right ?), and here this episode, while being very hard to watch, made me feel almost grateful but at the same time rubbed me the wrong way. I can't say exactly why, there's something that feels wrong with the way the subject is adressed but what exactly ? I don't know. What I do know though, is that I don't like how Ai only decides to stop ignoring victims because it might bring back her friend. But I hope this flawed mentality is on purpose and that the story will lead for her to realize that there doesn't have to be any ulterior motive when it comes to help someone in distress when you have the capacity to do so.
Overall this show is pretty weird, the subject, I know it, will most likely make me cry at times, the story is pretty confusing but I still more or less got it... Well I'll wait and see how the rest will be handled. I just hope the show knows what it is doing and that it won't be too hard to watch.

Edit : Wait a second, I'm the only one who understood this episode was about bullying and suicide ? Come on guys, it's not because a show has wacky symbolisms and art style that it means there's nothing deeper than that, I mean, the message is right in front of our eyes, how can I be the only one to get it ?!

I am being honest here, that i am aggree with some of the people at the recommendation tab. This is another same level as Flip Flappers, really. The same wacky one story telling, with a lot of impressive visualizations. Even those little ugly cg won't be matter much, cause every visuals were just smooth as heck. I mean, look at these one!:

Not gonna mention that the main cast was as sweet as sugar, adorable as a baby doll, and her eyes just beautiful. Whoever bullied that kind of peoples are just a bunch of idiots that deserved rotten in hell forever and never have a chance to be reincarnated, cause its nonsense as fuck.

The bully theme seems quite emotional for me, cause its relatable af. So, thats good to bring that kind of theme again at these kind of wacky crazy show. Together with the friendship relationship one that mostly always getting dragged on at every shows. Idk. I hope Ai found out the miracle inside those gacha world full of wonder eggs.

Maginificent. Thats my first impression among every isekai fantasy popular shows out there. Wonder Egg Priority, like an oasis, which refreshes the thirst out of a tired soul like me. And i just be glad i am not forgetting this one, long enough. Lol.

Okay, next episode!
