Which of the following is scarier to you guys? Perfect Blue, Paranoia Agent, The Promised Neverland, or Shoujo Tsubaki? I also wonder how scary Shoujo Tsubaki would be compared to Junji Ito for you guys (No spoilers please)

I've never seen any of these as of this post, I would like to watch the 3 other than Shoujo Tsubaki though. I find the horror genre interesting with its likeable atmosphere and aesthetics, but really don't like being scared. The reason why I asked was because I found this question interesting and since so many horror anime today just aren't that scary to so many people because of the art-style and direction and various other reasons

Perfect Blue freaks me out, as I've been stalked before...it just looks unpleasant. I hear it's good though; most Satoshi Kon works are praised for a reason.

Paranoia Agent really isn't scary but it is very interesting to watch. It's also Satoshi Kon.

The Promised Neverland is excellent; not that scary but very suspenseful like "OH SH-" moments everywhere. It's my fave choice of your post. I eagerly marathoned that.

Shoujo Tsubaki (I've heard) really isn't meant to be "scary" but just very unpleasant and wants to shock and disgust you.

All of these shows are good but I wouldn't consider them "horror"
Personally all of these shows are thrillers but I recommend all of them

I've yet to see Perfect Blue and ST, dropped The Promised Neverland so my only option remains Paranoia Agent but didn't find it scarier.

Promised Neverland is about as scary as Grave of the Fireflies is funny.

Perfect Blue shows off horror better because it doesn't rely off of jumpscares. It relies on the scenery and the mood to give the scary tone.

First of all, DAMN that's a long forum title, kinda looks like an above average LN title.

Anyways I haven't watched it yet but I'll pick my chances that Perfect Blue will be the scariest out of all the options. That's all for me.

perfect blue was so uncomfortable and you couldn't expect anything that happened. maybe because I watched it at night that it scared me so much but it was horrifying. paranoia agent also had its uncomfortable moments

Perfect blue is actually how things have been like for the past couple years. Incels obsessing over a woman and pretending they aren’t the exact things they make fun of. I could go on twitch right now and find thousands simping and watching their favourite streamer the moment they go live. It’s pretty fucked actually, if they could get a chance to hurt them irl I’m sure they would.

This is so true. Maybe that's why it bothers me; it's too realistic to the idol industry lol

Perfect Blue and it's not even close. PA was more odd than anything, the scariest part of Promised Neverland is how poor its ending was and Shoujo Tsubaki is basically a shitty anime version of Freaks.

I have only watched Perfect Blue from the anime you mentioned, and I really, really loved it. I wouldn't really call it "scary", though. I think "harrowing" is the better word.

None to me. In general, no horror anime is able to scare me. Anime characters aren't real enough for horror anime to pull off. You need flesh and bones people for that.

I haven't watched shoujo Tsubasa but it looks like a captain tsubasa ripoff so I'm really wondering why it's here. But anyway perfect blue and junji Ito's manga are really the only thing to have scared me in this medium so far.

I watched Paranoia Agent and The Promised Neverland but they were not scary at all, to be honest. Perfect Blue is still in my plan to watch list.

Perfect blue builds on its atmosphere, its ost works great, it goes to gruesome scenes when needed and the more semi realistic art style helps making it feel more "real" (plus it showing idol industry problems and what people who're in the spotlight often face in their lives, makes it a lot more easier for the viewer to understand characters). If you dig psychological horror this would be my rec.

Paranoia agent is more of a mystery story and only couple episodes border on horror genre. It isn't really trying to be scary, suspense more. It also uses a lot of its own kind of humor.

The promised neverland I haven't watched

Shoujo Tsubaki I personally have fond feelings towards it, but its cult following comes more just from its background (being animated by one guy as a passion project, censoring etc.) and it is at its core a shock film. It doesn't go for any big scares, even if you'd find body horror scary this prob won't work, since body horror isn't the main element. Now comparing it to Junji Ito there's one huge difference, Suehiro Maruo's works include dose of eroguro while Junji Ito's works rely on body horror and mystery. Eroguro has its own scare factor sure, but usually people's reaction towards things dealing with sexuality in a way that's outside of our norm isn't fear but disgust or even rage.

Deemed as one of the most disturbing anime ever created...it even got banned at some point.

I was. I'm a huge fan of gore, and even I absolutely hated it. the only thing horrifying about it is that somebody thought it was a good idea. the whole movie was just everyone being as evil as possible for no reason at all. made with minimal effort too, it's almost a slideshow. if sakura matou wrote an anime, it'd be this one.

I think "scary" is overly simplistic since there are different modes of fear. The scariest fiction to me would be something that relates the most to reality, since it would be a subject more likely to affect us in our real lives.

Certainly, the situation in The Promised Neverland is terrifying, the prospect of having to tip toe around and plan an escape against a powerful authority is nerve-wracking and the scenes where the characters had to confront their captors is visceral. It reminds me of the movie/book Never Let Me Go, which also had teenagers live in a fake society; they were clones of wealthy people who would eventually have their organs harvested. In Never Let Me Go, there was a dimension of fatalism, where the characters had to confront their deaths individually since there was no hope of escape. By comparison, The Promised Neverland was more hopeful, therefore the adrenaline of the escape supplants that fear of death.

However, Perfect Blue is by far more realistic, which is why I think people have the reaction they do toward it.
