It's back to Karasuno's chance to take the match. With their roster talent, it seemed possible but their opponents are no pushovers.

Karasuno needed a better defense lineup. Some of those shots went through like it was nothing. They even had to make a substitute mid match. Howver, it looks like Karasuno managed to make some comebacks with their serves so maybe they have a chance.

This episode, compared to the previous ones, was very weird.
It seemed outsourced like the ep 2.

Plus we couldn't follow the plays, how points were made or not, etc.
And it starts directly at 14-7 for inarazaki without explaining what happened ._.

Was this episode outsourced as well? Looked a little off to me. Excited for Kita to get some screen time next week though! He's one of my favorites.

Kinda sad about the quality drop of Haikyuu this season. It just doesn't feel the same as previous seasons for me. Still enjoying it, but I do hope we see some improvements moving forward. Lot's of weird still shots and shoddy animation again this episode.

What to say ,haikyuu used to be my most admired anime not just because of the story but also the animation , earlier the animation used to be so refined and good that it would automatically engage the audience. It seems like now the production studio doesn't ever care about to this anime anymore😡 , i feel like till now only ep 1and 3 were kind of good and the other eps were all trash in quality. The earlier seasons were way better executed.

Another outsourced episode? Looks like the same trouble with character designs as in ep 2 I believe? I wonder if they had to outsource so much because of the pandemic, cause I don't remember the first half of season 4 being like this. Hopefully season 5 will have better resources and schedule, cause this is a bit sad... At least the nekoma match got the right treatment haha

Damn, Atsumu was targeting Nishinoya.

Kageyama's serves were too powerful. Kinda scary if you ask me.

Miya's targeting Nishinoya! Glad he got back into the game somehow after doing some quick push ups *-*

Kageyama is so powerful it's scarry, as always >.>; I see some lightning exchange between Miya and Kageyama XD they are threatening each other!

Great episode! ... How sad the animation got weird again :/

The animation in this episode is yet again rather bizarre...

... aside from that, we finally heard Kita speak! And he's on the move!
Kuroo & Kita in one episode - that was quite wonderful.

Kageyama's serve though - in the shoes of his (former) teammate: Oikawa.

Not sure why everyone is complaining so much about the animation, it really wasn't all that bad. It was still engaging and fun to watch, I had a lot of fun with the episode.

Targeting Nishinoya eh? He's the last person teams target but it was awesome to see him psyche himself up with those push ups as Atsumu watched and smiled at this competition.

Kageyama with those service aces, so satisfying. Some nice plays but I wish they bumped up the OST, it felt like it was way too far in the background while normally it's just blasting as the play happens to make it feel hype.

Loved the little staring contest between Atsumu and Kageyama with the former then proceeding to shout at his brother, that was great.
Looking forward to next week.

This episode has parts made by Production I.G and others by 4Tune. But, for me, it wasn't a bother

The highlight is the Tsuna sequence, made by Takashi Mukouda. His style is great, i love it

Could immediately tell the episode was outsourced :(, the directing of this episode was very messy. Particularly if you compare it with episode 3. This episode only picks up after Kageyamas serve.
The inconsistency is a bit jarring...

Suna is a scary player, gives me vibes of Tendou (reading other players' movements). Aran and Nishinoya are great, despite both being targeted they largely kept their cool.

Kageyama's powerful serves were so sexy. The force was like WOAH!

Kita seems like he's gonna shake up the game.

Do we really have to watch the annoying Nohebi guy and his gf comment on the match? In season 3 we had Oikawa and Iwa commenting and look what we're stuck with now. tsk tsk what a step down. Plus he seems to be following and commenting on all the matches going on. Is being a Speedwagon level commentator his superpower or something?

The animation, especially the beginnings felt really odd. The second half was better.

A few screenshots that show the horror:

I don't know how to feel about this episode
I fell like it was a real rollescoaster, be it from the animation quality, be it from the actual match
Regarding the animation, there were some instances in which it was REALLY beautiful and fluid (Aran's triple spike, Kageyama's serves, etc.), and others that i literally lol'd of how awful and jagged they were (sugawara's entrance, like wtf???? i counted only 10 frames in more than a second when inarizaki stared at him)
Regarding the match, sometimes they dropped the ball on Haikyuu's general oomphness, like when Noya injured his fingers at the start of the episode, while also having some jaw-dropping moments ih the aforementioned beautiful moments

At least, this episode was the most content-heavy on the ACTUAL MATCH WE ALL WANT TO SEE, no flashbacks or side matches, just good ol' ball slapping

These episodes so far have been decent... animation slacking occasionally, art slacking occasionally, and other times the animation and art is okay. It’s pissing me off how inconsistent this is. A really good match being bombarded with this crap.
But anyways—
didn’t expect Atsumu to target Nishinoya. I feel like Ushijima did the same, although that was more like he was forced by the blockers to hit in Noya’s path on purpose.
Inarizaki was given more screen time- seems like they don’t take mess ups lightly. That one pinch server was pretty much shit on by the crowd and the team. Hope he’s okay though 😢 I’m sure Inarizaki has good intentions when they do that. It was funny how the crowd booing caught Hinata off guard lol
Suna uses his whole body— I figured, since when I saw his spike animation in ep 3 it looked liked he was leaning on his side. Anyways, it was cool that they talked about that. He is a very strong player.
Tanaka had another epic cut shot.
Aran had some awesome spikes this ep. Aran’s spike animation was pretty good too. YES, FINALLY SAEKO MENTIONED THAT ARAN WAS LIKE USHIWAKA. I also couldn’t help but be reminded of Ushijima’s 3rd meter spikes when Aran spiked. That was cool.
Kageyama service ace! The animation was actually kinda good for it. A-ok
KITA SHINSUKE HAS ARRIVED. WHAT A WAY TO END THE EPISODE. DEF GONNA WATCH EP 7.

Good ep.

I'm a pretty open-minded guy when it comes to animation and artstyle, I love shows like MP100 and Eizouken with very stylized drawings. But in HQ case, this type of animation is really noticeable because it stands out a lot from the rest of the ep. Mukouda is a beast at animation, but his artstyle is hard to get use to.
There were some great cuts is the ep, but outside of those cuts it looks really rough.

And I know people are annoyed to see people complain, but just like with MHA S4, we complain this much because the show used to be so much more visually impressive. Like if you go from S3 to S4 (pretty much from best to worst), it's so damn obvious.

6 more ep to go, since now we're in the second half of the court I hope it'll be more consistent, I want to feel what I felt against Aoba Josai and Shiratorizawa again.

Otherwise, very hyped for the Inarizaki captain, I like his design a lot.

Damn I didn't really get what was Rintaro's little quirk. He could bend his body so he could spike around blockers? But I swear that show went over Tsuki. Also he can control blockers the better they are? If anyone could explain it even if it's spoilers, I would appreciate it I didn't really get it :D

I wonder how Karasuno is going to overcome this challenge.

I am now officially ahead in the manga so being able to have read the manga and then see it animated was a really cool experience. I thoroughly enjoyed this episode. Also, whenever Hinata ran up for a spike he had the biggest smile on his face and it was adorable.

I don't really notice the animation all that much, too busy reading subtitles to closely pay attention to most of it. I have a bad feeling Karasuno is going to lose this match, but there's 5 episodes left so I guess we'll see what happens.

Looks godawful again. Man I expected this season to be a lot better than the really boring, tedious first season of To The Top but it's actually looking worse. Constant loss of momentum and really cheap production values don't help this long, stretched out match whatsoever.

Yaay finally back to Karasuno’s match. Glad to see Kageyama on fire again.

The animation is pretty off again and I was thinking was the other characters really looks like that in previous episodes or even in previous season? LMAO Guess they outsourced it once again :(

Anyway, despite the bad animation in some scenes, this was still a good episode! I feel like it was too short though.

Fantastic animation on Kageyama's serves <3
I was really impressed that my boy was so calm and confident.

There are a few weird faces, but that's not on the whole episode. Unfortunately, people like to argue a lot about unimportant things, it's a bit sad to see that they aren't trying to enjoy such an exciting match

I don't know if it was because of the animation drop or because of the general direction of this match, but this episode felt a bit clunky. I was starting to get into the match and the Nekoma break was a welcome change up (mostly because i adore nekoma) and I thought ep 2's animation was a blip but apparently not. At times it really took me out of it because it was all i could notice; faces were flat, proportions seemed off and the movement was stuttery and clunky at worst, but the high points were lovely and fluid so maybe its the contrast thats unsettling. Hopefully it'll improve from here and they'll be no more outsorced episodes as things get more high stakes.
Apart from that, the direction just isn't getting to me as I expected it would. I had so much hype for this match but there seems to be no build up of tension. I'm not gaging any ebb and flow of the control of the game going from one side to another and unless its a character focused episode as it was with tanaka, the teams tactics seem to manifest and then be sorted so quickly. Like with them introducing Nishinoya as a target and Rintaro's control of the block, they bring it up but afterwards I don't get any sense of the lasting effect or continuation of that pressure throughout the game. Even with them trying to put pressure on Aran, it seems so surface level and I'm not getting any indication from him that he's actually annoyed or stressed, it's just told to me by the people watching.
Hopefully with them introducing Kita we'll get to see more of Inarizaki's dynamics and how they're feeling and the tension will mount because at the momemt I'm not getting it.

Like when animators in Haikyuu!! get drunk. I mean, not even the audience was saved from having derpy faces every now and then this episode xD

Well, leaving that aside, those last minutes with Kageyama in "calm mode" sure were intense. He managed to get some much needed good points but I seriously think the second set is already lost at this point. Suga was pretty cool too, by the way.

I can’t help but comment on how disappointed I am about the animation quality every episode. It’s just so disappointing given how great it usually is for this series. As a result, I start to care less about the drama and the comedy doesn’t work as well. It’s THAT distracting to me.

I can excuse QUALITY animation, but some of these camera angles are just mind-boggling bad.
Like, I need to pause the episode to make sense of what the hell just happened - something that Haikyuu NEVER did before. This season is made more disappointing by the fact the previous one was perfectly fine and on par with the other three despite the staff changes, making this drop in quality feel random.

Maybe the pandemic hit the studio harder than others, dunno. But so far only episode 4 was on the level of classic Haikyuu, and that was thanks to good characterization instead of animation.

did this one get outsourced too? I understand with all the hard stuff going on right now it must be hard to maintain the animation. But if it was going to be this bad, they coudlve postponed it until next year. It breaks my heart because haikyuu is very dear to me and i hate to see the quality going down and the rating going down :((

Aran is a metaphor for outsourcing animators. Aran has to try harder than everyone because he knows he'll receive a harsher critics just because he's not Japanese. Go Aran! Go prove them wrong!
