Im an athlete myself and Haikyuu is honestly the most realistic sports anime ive ever come across, it was also, the first anime to ever make me cry.
favorite genres are Shonen, sports, romance, and Shounen Ai.
the reasons why i love each of my favorite anime so much
Haikyuu was reccommended to me by my older cousin when i first started watching anime. I was told that it would appeal to me a lot. He wasnt wrong.
At first i thought it was nice, i learned a lot about volleyball and the different positions, and i fell in love with the eccentric cast of characters.
It was towards the middle of season 2 when i really began to love the show, and i made a connection to it and my own sport.
In one scene, when Bokuto and the gang are talking to tsukishima, he tells tsukishima how he "hasnt had his moment yet" and that "when you have that moment, thats when youll be hooked on volleyball." I resonated with this deeply. When i first started swimming, it was just because my parents wanted me to, but then i won against someone for the first time, while swimming my favorite stroke, butterfly. And thats when i knew i loved swimming.
After this particular dialogue, i could relate to Haikyuu so much, i knew how the athletes felt, and if anything, i could relate to almost everything these characters felt. And i could also resonate with their feelings towards the sport itself, how much they wanted to get better, work harder,
How much they loved this sport.
It was beautiful to me, and id never felt as if someone couldve taken all my feelings with swimming and execute it so accurately until i watched and read it.
I can resonate with everything theyve gone through, the highs and the lows, and striving to get better, wanting to be the best.
Its hard to put it into words.
This show has also inspired me to become better as an athlete and a person.
I wanted to be as amazing as these characters are within the sport, and because of how excellently they were written, i felt as if that was something i could do.
Each of these characters has a beautiful story, and each of their stories inspires me to work harder in practices and competitions.
Its taught me many things as well, for example, "i am built upon the small things i do every day, the results are only a byproduct of that."
Results arent everything.
That was eye opening for me, it also cemented Kita as one of my favorites.
"i think being able to dive head first into things is a talent in and of itself. but if you think they’re geniuses from the start, that means you’ve lost before you even had a match with them."
"Talent is something you make bloom, instinct is something you polish."
"Dont you ever forget my worthless pride."
"Theres no guarantee the weapon i worked on first will keep working at the end."
"lifes a bore if you dont challenge yourself"
"Being weak means theres room to grow."
"he who climbs the ladder must start at the bottom."
"The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams."
It is through this anime that, the true beauty of sport was made even more vivid to me. And that is why Haikyuu is my number 1 favorite of all time.
(My dad, my brother, and some more of my extended family are also avid fans and i speak to them about it all the time xD)
2: Jojos Bizarre adventure
My favorite parts are 4 and 5 (4 slightly more than 5)
The entire series as a whole is now part of the things i love. Im now a dedicated jojo fan i guess xD
I first found out what JoJo was when i was watching a PewDiePie video lmao, so really i wanted to watch it for the memes, but i got a lot more out of it than just that.
The characters are all so hilarious and unique, the story is actually very nicely written and crazy, which is nice, and the sheer bizarreness of the show just makes this series even more dear to me.
Part 4 is my current favorite of all the parts, its the one that made me love jojo as a whole.
I really like old music as well so the stand names and things were nice to see! My dads favorite song is Shine on You Crazy Diamond by pink floyd, and so Josuke is special to me since me and my dad are very close and we even watch anime together! Part 5 is right below that (technically it ranks below demon slayer) I loved the characters in here, and the story, it was told beautifully, with the the themes of fate in jojo really shining through. I feel like Araki found himself as a writer with part 4, and let himself grow and grow as we get into the later parts.
(Jolyne best girl)
3: Kimetsu no Yaiba (Demon Slayer)
At first, i loved this show mostly for its amazing fight scenes and animation (ufotable really outdid themselves didnt they?) but as we progressed through the story, i began to fall more and more in love with our eccentric cast. Tanjiro, whos kindhearted but badass, Zenitsu, who honestly is one of the funniest guys in the show (while being OP when hes fainted xD) Inosuke, whos pig headed but lovable, and of course, adorable but sometimes scary Nezuko.
The pure love that tanjiro has for his family and his forgiving nature really touched my heart, and the amazing adaptation that Ufotable brought us helped me to understand why this is now one of the biggest manga/anime titles in history.
(ive never cried more during a movie than during Mugen Ressha, couldnt have asked for a better first anime movie in theaters, even my dad loved it!)
4: Attack on Titan
I always knew what aot was.
I associated it to the word anime itself. So naturally i was soooo excited to watch it.
Masterful storytelling, well written characters, and an interesting premise. It didnt take long for me to get hooked.
5: Hunter x Hunter
Originally i got into it because i was bored one day and my friend told me to watch it, i loved our fun cast, the memes, and the story! It is the first long running anime i actually finished halfway without taking a break. I love the witty humor and how this show can be childish and fun at times, but be the complete flip during other times.
I got into given because i had just discovered the wonderful genre of BL (after stumbling upon the ships in Haikyuu by accident) and i was hunting for good BL shows.
Given reminded me of Haikyuu character wise (so it fulfilled my Haikyuu fantasies) but besides that, the simple yet beautiful storytelling of four boys discovering more about themselves and who they love was quite compelling. It is the most realistic romance anime ive seen to this day (right above Horimiya)
we should just feed given to the rabid Haikyuu fan girls, maybe their thirst for gayness will be quenched by that?
7: SK8 the Infinity
I thought it was alright, then i dropped it for a bit.
A couple months later someone told me it was Bl (and i admit this a bit shamefully) and i jumped right back into it.
Its a bit cliche yes, and yeah its a bit unrealistic, but it was so damn fun to watch.
Reki quickly became one of the top characters on my kin list, i could resonate with his feelings of being left behind. The relatability made it click for me. Similar to Haikyuu, just an individual sport, like mine.
Of course i did guiltily indulge in the small amount of BL that was in there, and im manifesting for a continuation
8: Jujutsu Kaisen
I remember when it first came out back in fall, i wasnt thinking it would be anything special.
And then i watched it.
It was a bit cliche, but the adaptation done by mappa was phenomenal, and eventually, i came to appreciate it and its (slightly cliche) story.
Also, this series has some of the best written female characters ive seen ever. Is it possible to simp for every character there?
I watched it grow to the giant it is now, and i consider it to be a part of the SJ big three (Which could be considered as KnY, JJk and BNHA, but im not sure completely about BNHA since there were a number of manga that sold better than it in the last year, such as haikyuu)
Im looking forward to seeing its growth as we go on.
