Blah blah subs over dubs, blah blah.

I've been watching through Sailor Moon after only having watched the old DIC dub when I was a youngin'.
I'm watching the new Viz dub and I've been really enjoying it! I think the voice actors are doing a fantastic job! ^^

I rather like the dub for Madoka and SAO too, and I'm also pretty fond of the English dubs for Naruto, FMA:B, and Ouran, but those three of those are mostly fueled by nostalgia if I'm honest.

Honorable mention to the Ghost Stories dub, hahaha.

Are there any dubs of any language any of you are particularly attached to?
Are there any that you actually prefer over the original Japanese?

Totally agree on your thoughts on the new Sailor Moon Viz dub (especially since I grew up with a video cassette of the DiC dub too), Madoka Magica, and Ghost Stories. They've got great dubs.
I'd say Disney's dubs for Studio Ghibli movies and ADV's dub for Princess Tutu are great too! I've only seen some of the Ghibli movies both subbed and dubbed and I have yet to completely watch Princess Tutu subbed though.

The English dub of Made in Abyss is actually very good.

Unless there's a VA I really like in the Japanese Dub, I would most likely than not, just watch the English dub, for non-Japanese setting Anime (Europe/North America), for the immersion.

I would argue that the Eng and Jap dub in that show, is equally as good.

Some of these are partially nostalgia however, I still think they're good!

Yu Yu Hakusho has a fantastic dub, FMA and FMA:B are also so well done, and I honestly think the Panty and Stocking dub is great since they really went to places I think the sub was a little afraid to? In general I also think some comedy anime do really well as dubbed and that's I think more just do to the writing of the original content than the dub itself.

There are plenty of dubs that I'd be fine watching but most of the time like with any media be it live action, anime or games I prefer the original version including voices. In my opinion I find that with a few exceptions (certain mediums do it better than others more consistently) most dubs tend to cast people that are less fitting or convincing for their rolls than the original. I'm not saying dub actors are bad or even that it's every role this is common with (core cast usually contains at least a few VA's that are good to great) but it's common enough to notice. Although that doesn't mean I don't find any dubs better than sub that totally happens just not nearly as often as the reverse imo.

A few stand out examples of dubs being similarly or more fitting imo would be Baccano, Samurai Champloo, Cowboy Bebop, Panty and Stocking, 91 Days and plenty of big Shounen even though I typically either don't finish or start most Shounen (as they regularly turn out to be not for me) what I do see usually is just fine too great in the dub department at least in the main roles.

It just makes more sense to me that they are speaking english in south east asia rather than some magical japanese language that even the russians can understand

Mostly for anime I've watched when I was in elementary/middle school, dunno why/how I got stuck with the dubs instead but some are actually pretty good. Now I only watch in subs though so can't say I prefer any dubs for newer anime anymore.

Ouran High School Host Club (Tamaki's in particular, his VA makes everything 10x more hilarious)
Pokemon
Sailor Moon
Inuyasha
Ranma 1/2

And while we're on-topic I'm just gonna slip in one of my favorite english dubbed Sailor Moon moments below

I pretty much watch only english dubbed anime. I've watch some shows subbed, but if you view my list, it has very few japanese only anime.

At the end of the day it's whatever you're use to or prefer. If you've watched subbed for most anime, then you'll think dubbs are strange. If you watch dub mostly, you'll think japanese VA's sound strange.

I don't even mind the bad dubs like the animax asia dub for haruhi suzumiya(seriously you should check it out and compare it to the funimation dub and see how VA's impact an anime so much)

I think people are overly critical of dubs and there's a lot of shows with very well done dubs that are just different rather than being better or worse. I think people should be realistic that different mediums will give a slightly different experience and sometimes watching a show in both dub and subbed makes a person appreciate it that much more.

Here are my examples-

I watched One Piece funimation dub upto 574 episodes and beyond that only sub. Even though Sub is better. I feel like the dub is overhated. Except for Luffy himself the english Vocals of other characters are really great and even Luffy's voice improve as it goes on. It is a solid dub in my opinion.

The Monster anime is basically made for a quality english dub. Since the show take place in Germany. It's hard to watch this anime without english dub.

Death Note english dub is one of the best I've ever heard in long time. The voices are really good. Light Yagami is winner in terms of voice acting.

Dubbed (an under the influence) is the best way to enjoy Space Dandy. Space Dandy felt quite Western given that it was basically Japanese space-age Johnny Bravo, so I enjoyed it in the most English.

As someone who actually has to watch dubs most of the time, there are some pretty good ones!

I fully agree that the Madoka dub is a good one, even after having seen both versions. Baccano is another one I've tried both for, and it's honestly god-tier.

The Lupin III dubs that feature Tony Oliver as Lupin are also a real hoot, he portrays the character perfectly. I also have a major soft spot for the Fate/Zero dub, purely for Bluebeard. A strange one that's shot up to be a personal favorite is Nanbaka, because I feel like Elf's Japanese voice wasn't nearly as terrifying.

lupin iii part 2! seriously, i never would've made it through without the hilarious dub, as much of a lupin fan as i am.
yu yu hakusho is fantastic, too - i prefer kurama's and sensui's japanese vas for the characters (both had very soft voices, feminine in kurama's case, but the dub went for more traditionally masculine voices) but besides them the english voices are what i think of when i think of the characters.

If we're talking english dubs specifically, Fullmetal Alchemist (either one), Code Geass, Cowboy Bebop, Last Exile and Shingeki no Bahamut were pretty good.

Personally, I don't mind either subs or dubs but since subs come out first, I usually watch those. I really enjoy the dubs that come out of any work licensed by Aniplex and very few that come from Funimation. I enjoyed Psycho Pass dub & sub but I feel like nothing can top Dr. Stone. I watched Dr. Stone interchangeably as if nothing were different, I enjoyed that dub a lot. Kudos to their hard work

I'm not one to bash anyone that enjoys either & I feel like that's where the problem of this debate lies. It's okay to prefer one over the other, that's your tastes, but no need to ridicule someone who doesn't share your views because voice actors and seiyuus put in a lot of effort and time to deliver their work and we need to repsect that. We could never do what they're doing for a living.
