THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
Everything was fine until the battle with Araya and Manji, and not because it was slightly different from the manga, but because I felt everything flowing way too faster and the conclusion felt kinda rushed. Otherwise a fine episode.

And so ends the first arc of the series. Now it's when things are going to get good (if the studio doesn't screw the adaptation, of course).

Everything was fine before the indoor battle ruined this episode. Too fast 😕

Really happy with this adaptation!
In this episode we could even see more of the fight, showing more of the complete bodies of the fighters.

But what impress me the most is the script and direction.
They're really hammering this "cycle" motif, and in this episode in a not so obvious way (but you have to know the whole story to notice).

This may be my favourite so far. They disguised the death of Manji and they showed the boy a ton of compassion.

Just one ? Oh come on they have Vinland saga, Babylon, Psycho-pass 3 and this. These 4 anime are better then entire CR simulcast this season.

Yeah sure you right. But saying that they have just one show is also incorrect. I can same thing about CR which doesn't have anything good this season so I have subscribed Amazon for same price.

Even though Rin is trapped in the cycle of death and revenge, she's compassionate and tries to spare others from entering it to waste their lives on a vengeance, she's a nice character.
I'm liking very much the writing, this show gets better with every episode IMO.

This episode is so sad but beautiful.
The compassion that Rin showed that the path she is walking is dangerous.

"On Silent Wings" arc, spanning 7 chapters, if the content was ever rushed, it would be episodes like this to cram as much content into it.

In the world of the Samurai, there is NO such thing as compassion, and Rin, although she has learned most on the way to adult growth, that's the way she is wired since the death of her parents.

And Rin has come to exact revenge in the very same group of people, while taking care of Araya's son Renzo. As much as Araya has changed since time past, Rin just couldn't shake off the feeling that WITHOUT revenge, everything wouldn't be resolved.

Most importantly, is building the child Renzo well in an era where bliss is ignorance. Rin, as much as trying to shield Renzo from the outside world, she couldn't protect herself too, much less protecting Renzo of the brutality of it all. Even when Manji caught onto Araya, that was just insane, and Renzo couldn't lie taking Manji down and striked him like how a child would protect their parents. Adults too have secrets that they don't want their children to know, and Renzo bore all that right onto his father's death.

But I feel as much as the content was at an insanely fast pace (even faster than past episodes), it was a nice episode, but what's taken away are the emotions and the impact of the massacre, which was a huge part of the manga. Regardless, adaptations won't make cuts towards the original source, and this is albeit one.

Yea, that fight was a fucking joke. Small room, with very few obstacles as they all are against they wall, and he didn't immediately kill him with an arm length sword? I'm calling absolute fucking bullshit. Even someone truly skilled fighting a total novice would have trouble not getting cut the fuck up. I hate inconsistent skill levels.

Frankly, I kind of liked the live action, but this anime really feels like a failed attempt at mimicking the atmosphere series like Monogatari have. Haven't read the manga so I can't say much about how this series should be or how it compares, and I see how this anime could have done well, but it just feels like a consistently low quality mess trying to be something it isn't. And that is becoming more apparent with each new episode.

I for one agree with you (some like what you like, even in MAL, lol). Amazon's catalogue this season has been much better than Crunchyroll's (at least where I live) with the show you mention. And Prime is even cheaper than CR too. But yeah, a lot of people cannot or will not pay for streaming services like Netflix and Prime which means that shows that are exclusive to those platforms live in an exile of sorts. Thus not very popular.

Yup, she might not be a good fighter, but she's getting more smarts and cunning as the show goes along.

This fight in the manga is one of my favorites, so its really sad to see how much they cut out. They could have at least kept some of the dialogue and not made manji rush so mindlessly at the opponent :/

The wind and wheel stopped. At least for today...

But wheels are made to spin, and the wind never stops forever. It's a very delicate, childish hope...

Each episode of this show tells such a complete and gripping story. And man, is that ED always so smooth... Both are honestly shaping up to be my favourites of this year.

Interesting episode overall. Rin's character has me quite intrigued so far and the way how the "revenge" topic was handled was good enough. I only wish she doesn't look like a "damsel in distress" so often but I guess it can't be helped sometimes.

Bruh this pairing is so useless. She doesn't know how she wants her revenge to play out and only serves to somehow every time get into the hands of the villain and he can barely win a fight without having to rely on his immortality/luck of the draw. The only saving grace is that their interactions can be kinda enjoyable at times

Hopefully this gets better cause this is kinda meh right now

Rin is doubting how to work out her revenge, she needs to realize what she really wants
I like how they use the immortality trick to stop the kid to go on the bloody path of revenge

This episode is pretty nice.
- I really love the ending. That poor kid. What an idea from Rin
- The indoor battle, which was MUCH better than the goofy ass shit we got in 2008, was still really bad. It’s way too fast and anticlimactic
