If you want korean characters, go read a manhwa. I also don't see characters from my country in anime and I don't complain about it.

Very specific op. Even if they were Korean they'd still speak Japanese so.

in my previous example, the Korean characters speak in both Japanese and Korean.
(though mostly simple words like "big sister")
You can buy lossless digital music from your favorite Japanese artists on https://ototoy.jp/.
The songs are all DRM-free and you can re-download your purchased albums as you wish.
Show your support to your favorite artist if you can!
ps. if you are looking for Japanese albums, you have to search it in Japanese (not romaji). Just copy and paste the name.

Jeez so many people attacking OP, just chill
I think it's a good question because I HAVE seen Chinese culture mentioned more than Korea. While China has had more influence in history, Koreans too came over to teach Japanese people (although it's a lesser known fact).
However, more importantly, there is a sizable population of Koreans in Japan (Zainichi, like someone mentioned, and "newcomers" who are lumped in with the Zainichi, along with the Koreans who immigrate from Korea).
Yes, there is tension between the two countries so that's a possible answer. I'd love to hear more, but it's just a group of idiots saying "OMG I'M (this nationality) BUT IM NOT ASKING THIS QUESTION OMG STOP"

Finally one person who gets it. They don't understand the relationships and history these countries share and are bringing their off-topic comments to bring this topic down. I've gotten tired of dismissing everyone of them.

Im not personally bothered if or not we have Koreans in anime.

There is quite a number of Chinese characters in anime. Particularly in martial arts anime.

Why don't we throw Russia in there as well

There is a healthy amount of Russians in anime. Brave Witches was even set in mostly in and around the city known as Saint-Petersburg now (this city was renamed a lot, in the historical period in question, it was known as Leningrad). Seiken Tsukai no World Break had an arc set in Russia. Asobi ni Iku Yo had the MCs buying an ICBM from a friendly Russian general. Pseudo-Russians were the second strongest team in Girls und Panzer. We have an anime made specially for us, First Squad. And is I start counting individual characters, I would never finish.

Yes, it's pleasant to see one's compatriots in anime, if the anime doesn't screw it too much. You just need a healthy sense of humor to take things like Kuril Islands being given to Japan in GitS (and becoming a some kind of slum), or soldiers in Zettai Karen Children reading magazines advertising matryoshka dolls (matryoshka dolls are the thing we sell to tourists, kids these days play with western-style dolls like Barbie).

Well, it would be an easy matter to invade North Korea. But what would be the point? They don't have anything worth taking. Even the land is ruined and isn't growing enough food.
Quick story idea: have a corporation or something like that invade North Korea and turn it into evil laboratory for illegal experiments.

EDIT: Looks like a lot of people are putting words in my mouth and drawing their own conclusions. This is a question, not a complaint.

ROFL is this a real question ????

Nihongo uses some Simplified Chinese Characters, that's why there are Chinese characters in Anime. While Korean characters are not used in the Japanese language.

Next some people will be making new threads asking why there are no Russian characters, Arabic characters or Tamil characters in Anime .........
I am someone that would like to watch a Harem Anime with 2 male leads that each gets their own harem company of girls from the main cast. For example, 1st male lead gets a company of 4 girls and 2nd male lead gets 2-3 girls etc.

In this thread, we're talking about fictional people, not letters. Even if both are called "characters", you should be able to understand it from the context.

It's not like nuclear countries want his bombs. Every other nuclear state has better bombs, and they are restricted by all kinds of treaties about how much bombs they are allowed to have.

Akatsuki no Yona is sort of "debatable" since it not only involved Korean but Chinese and Japanese as well.

Overall, most of these characters in the anime that I listed are supporting characters. In Korean dramas, there are Japanese actors and actresses that are in the drama but they are supporting characters.

The last time they tried to do one (Korea from Hetalia), it received a lot of backlash. Even if Hetalia characters are literally made to be a stereotypical parody of every country, they still got offended somehow.

I guess that's why they just don't risk it since Koreans will find fault in Korean portrayals in Japanese media, stemming from age old cultural and historical conflict.

Because Koreans look not wildly different from Japanese and their language is similar to Japanese plus of course all the hatred among some Japanese against Koreans which would cut into proffits.

I think its because Japanese and Korean people hates eachother. Then again Japanese and Chinese people hates eachother aswell, yet there are a lot of anime with Chinese characters and set in China. So i really dont know why there are barely any Korean characters.

Nikkei south koreans: 42.000 (2022)
Yet very little of brazilians in animes.
This might be irrelevant depends on what the audience likes to see and probably the audience doesn't like koreans.

I think it's kinda odd that sometimes a Korean manhwa will get an anime adaptation, but they change the ethnicities of the main characters from Korean to Japanese. Like nobody likes it when English dubs Americanize Japanese names and settings. But it's fine to Japanese-ize Korean names and other settings.

Like this might end up happening more often with more Korean manhwa getting adaptations. Like next season, we'll be getting Solo Leveling and Doctor Elise- both manhwa adaptations.

Why not use the Korean names!

I didn't know about the troubles between Korea and Japan until I read the award-winning novel "Pachinko", about the zainichi (Koreans living in Japan).

We may not see any Korean characters in anime for some time, if ever, and there's a good chance they may be presented as villains or idiots.
