Or give them any Japanese name? Just a random thought. Names like Kenji & Ryuuji seem pretty cool for boys & I like girl names like Nagisa aswell. However, I think it would be kinda weird to give non Japanese kids these names. Thoughts?

A Japanese name? No. I'm not Japanese so this would only be fitting if the child's other parent was Japanese.

A western name shared by an anime character? Why not.

As long as it's an actual name, why not? Though in Germany it would be rather unusual. Also, the authorities here are rather strict regarding children's names, so anything outlandish is out of the question.

Edit: I personally wouldn't do it.

Yes, i have considered naming a child after a anime character, however i would want him/her to have their own identity. I have always been fond Misaka from A Ceratin Scientific Railgun and a few others

If it is a boy name him Lelouch, if it is a girl name her Nunnally. Your children will be proud to have parents like you.

Without change,we end up becoming the very person we hate.

I would give my child a Japanese name (after checking its meaning in all relevant languages). And I wouldn't actively name my child after an anime character, but if I like a name that also happens to be one frequently used by animes I wouldn't particularly mind that.

Probably not. Some anime names sound interesting, but I rather not. Like someone already mentioned before, if one of the parents was Japanese then maybe.

Hell no. Once you start subjecting your weebism onto your own children, you've crossed the damn line.

Emilia is an Italian name, so even though there is an Anime character named Emilia, it's not as bad as like, Tomoyo Okazaki or something along the lines of full blow Japanese name.

As an anime character as such, yes. I plan to name my daughter Louise, like Louise de la Vallière from Zero no Tsukaima.

As an actual Japanese no, never; too much of Western chauvinist I am. Even as I want my daughter to be called Kaho.

Possibly. I wouldn't give them a japanese name, but i really like Rika as a name, which happens to be the name of Rika Furude from Higurashi. I just worry i'd curse my daughter into an endless death loop or something if i gave her that name.

Also this seemed appropriate.

I would love to name my baby girl Maria after Maria from HakoMari.
It's perfect for my language, even my mom is named Maria.
Edit: @Rasly2 dude, if you do that you'd be my hero.

People already name their "furbabies" after anime characters so why not "real" babies y'know.
I have no plans for kids, but if I had plans knowing myself I'd be sure to pick a meaningful name.

No, naming my kid after a Japanese name sounds a bit weird even if I'm Asian it just doesn't feel right.

I'd name my kid after a Fire Emblem character though lol, Soren for a dude and Hinoka for a girl, but I'm not gonna have kids so...

Don't worry about being lame now, you were always lame anyway!

No, people that name their kids because of a fictional character (not only anime) are R E T A R D S. You can like some names, but naming someone only because you like a character is dumb af.

No I would not. Because unlike a lot of parents, I would actually consider the repercussions of giving my child a strange name. Such as when they start going to school. Kids are brutal.

Depends on which one, and what their name is.

I'd go for something that sounds natural on its own in English.

For example, if I wanted to name a child after Homura Akemi, I might call her "Dawn", while "Daybreak" is only possible as a middle name, and "Akemi" is completely out of the question.
Avatar character is Gabriel from Gabriel DropOut.

Lot's of people are talking about their kids being bullied for having a weird name, but weird names aren't so uncommon in the West. And the kid could go by a shortened version anyway. My boyfriend's first name is Zacharius, and while sure he was made fun of, he went by Zac most of his life and when people found out his whole name he would deal with it. And when the kid grows up, it doesn't even matter anymore. What kind of adult would tease another adult for having a weird name?
I personally don't think it's a big deal. And honestly, I would have to think about how my parents and family would judge me if I decided to name my kid Akira or Kirito or whatever lol
