Woah, JoJo did some bad things to those cops. It's nearly impossible getting away with it lol.

Joseph Joestar actually seems to have a personality going by this chapter. I was pretty amused how he seemed worried about Erina's reaction to his "deeds".

Great chapter,I'm already liking Joseph more than Jonathan! I didn't like how Jonathan was a "Goody Goody" type,But this guy already has alot more personality than him.

10/10 chapter.

Within only one chapter, Battle Tendency proves to be more entertaining than Phantom Blood ever was. & a lot of that, as already pointed out in this thread by pretty much everyone, is because Joseph has a lot more personality than the bland Jonathan Joestar. lol at the end of the chapter with Joseph's reaction to the "American Girls".

That was much more racial than I expected. I don't remember that being in the anime, but oh well, still a fine chapter.

I've finally reached the part of my favorite Jojo and Joseph Joestar is as brash and dashing as ever ♡ Now that I think about it, Joseph getting into a lot of fights with other people makes it sound like he has a Battle Tendency~

The 195cm Englishman dealt with that racist cop with a facebreaking punch and broke the murderous one's finger with just a bottle of Coco Cole! Seeing Straits and Speedwagon as old guys looking for the origins of the stone mask was fun but Jonathan's grandson is on another level.

This was a phenomenal chapter! It started great by giving us a much needed moment with Speedwagon and Straizo. Speedwagon made it big with oil and has perhaps been devoting his time to make sure the mask doesn’t get another chance at life. Straizo has succeeded Tonpeti! They are seeking to understand the origin of the mask more! I’m glad Speedwagon is looking to be doing well, I felt so bad for him at the end of part 1. And that was just the introduction!

What came immediately after was amazingly charming. It had numerous nods back to part 1, purposeful or not, that all evoked nostalgia for a series I’ve only just begun. The second Smokey ran by stealing the wallet I thought of Poco in part 1 doing similar. Then when Joseph followed him, he gave the same excuse that George Joestar did for Dario Brando when he took his ring, that Joseph gave the wallet to Smokey as a gift. Then, we had a moment that seemed to recall the original directly but with a much different conclusion, one that painted a different picture of Joseph than it did for Jonathan. Joseph’s line towards the cop aiming at him was “go ahead and shoot me but prepare yourself, the moment you pull the trigger, I’m going to break your finger like a matchstick”, and when Jonathan grabbed the blade of Speedwagon’s goon he said “just try it, if you don’t mind a log-like leg kicking you in the groin the moment you twist it”! So, essentially to start this chapter with old legends and then give us so many little moments that made me think of part 1 had this chapter feel like a warm reintroduction to Jojo.

To talk more specifically about Joseph, I feel we had an adorable subversion here. Joseph starts out quiet, stoic, his face covered in shadow, and helping out his robber while talking to the racist police. He starts with the clever George Joestar line, then when he gets a booger rubbed on his face he continues to try and reason. I feel his principled and strong and quiet role here emulated what we’d expect of Jonathan. But the second the cop went for a second booger he exploded in rage calling him a “yankee bastard”, punching his face and ripping his nose open from the inside. I want to call back again to the Ogre Street encounter with Speedwagon, Jonathan was attacked by bandits and yet he controlled his emotions and hit just hard enough to disengage them because he had empathy knowing that they had families too. Here Joseph pulled off a Jonathan-esque introduction and then proceeded to pummel this cop down like Dio did to Jonathan when they wrestled in school- going the extra mile like when Dio punched him and then punctured his eye. The adorable aspect of this explosive moment was that Joseph was trying so hard to not lose his temper so Erina wouldn’t get mad. He made it pretty far, these cops were just awful! He also suggested he loses his temper a lot.

Here we also got a quick run down on his past and life situation. His mom and dad are dead. Ever since he was a child he’s been able to use the hamon Jonathan used despite his father not having that ability, nor learning it like Jonathan did either. Instead of learning hamon, it’s innate. He seems to live with Erina, they recently moved to New York from London and Joseph still has a noticeable British accent. He’s also totally not racist and possibly empathetic and kind to a degree at least, as he did help Smokey, but he was ruthless with his enemies. Another cute little subversion was having the adorably wholesome Jonathan and Erina relationship challenged with Joseph talkin about “flipping” some strangers skirts.

Joseph has an a lot more likable first impression than his grandfather, that's for sure. He is a proactive hero while Jonathan was a reactive one. Still let's see what comes out of it! Straizo seems to have gone evil now tho.

I guess we'll see how this part goes. I'm personally not a Joseph fan. So far the events of the manga are flowing just like the anime.
