| Devilman crybaby is indeed not a masterpiece but. Akira is supposed to be a beta cuck at the beginning. He was too weak to stand up for his ideal and under all the chaos he followed Ryu's ideology instead. Often compassion is seen as weakness and Akira's entire arc was meant to prove that mentality wrong. The show's ending gave the message nuance. The point was to prove humanity could fuckup and destroy itself but it's also begging us to have more compassion. I thought that Akira was a good enough character to hold a 10 episode series. When the other characters died I was sad because of how it impacted him. This fits in with the theme of empathy that the series held. |
