I haven't seen R2 yet but I didn't like season 1 mainly because of Mao and its retarded plot
I agree completely, though what I personally think that is worse in R1 is Suzaku (not everything about him but many things) and the nightmares (including the mecha battles, like in Episode 11). Also, there are a lot of flat characters (like Jeremiah or Viletta) that are given a lot of attention they don't deserve.

Suzaku was a big problem in it too but I generally think of Mao as he showed how bad some of the character designs are in it and he made some of the dumbest decisions such as
Also it didn't make sense when he
Also how did Viletta

I have a lot of problems with it that it's hard to see why everyone loves it.

Yes, I watched one episode of LOTGH, and I felt like there was a stick shoved so far my ass, that I was starting to convert to a pompous elitist. Thankfully, I had the willpower to end it after just 30 seconds of exposure.

I really don't think it's possible unless you're very young and saw something so disturbing that it traumatized you.

................haha boy do I have a list of THAT shit. None anime-related however. XD

Dramatic divas you all are.

Granted I think if there were good horror anime that didn't rely directly on shock factor than possibly yes.

Yeah, yeah it can.

I convinced myself to watch NGE and now I don't even know if I like entertainment anymore.

A couple of years back or so, I started a policy that if an anime didn't pass the '1 episode test', I'd drop it. Often I'll stop watching mid-way through the first episode because it's so blatantly trope-filled that there's no point wasting my time. Yeah I prefer seinen-oriented anime, and there is not too much of it out there per season.

Idk if i'd call that psychological damage but the fact that some people were able to even remotely enjoy cross ange made me seriously question a lot of things about myself, other people people and anime in general

I thought Cross Ange was great with how it put the main character through hell.

Idk, didn't go past the first 10 minutes because it was way too awkwardly heavy-handed.

I can believe something like the endless 8 potentially causing some issues. But if watching a "bad" series causes problems for you, then you probably had before starting that series.

It really only feel like my brain is rotting when I know it's a bad anime, but I still enjoy it because of how stupid it is.
If your favourite character is Tsutsukakushi Tsukiko, you are my soul mate.

Been a long time since I've been here, I'll continue expressing myself freely and believe everyone should too.

If none of the terrible movies and TV shows I've seen have destroyed my brain yet, I doubt any anime will.

The only option I can think of where an anime could realistically damage your mental health is if it allowed you to keep up unhealthy depression like behaviours aka if your using binge watching as a form of avoidant behaviour.

I think bad anime could be a problem when you watched something when you were younger but then you rewatched it later. What you thought was deep and meaningful turns out to be pretty cliche and mundane.
You realise that this isnt because you have become much smarter that you've seen it all before. Nothing is unique, nothing is special and you will die without ever being more then mildly amused. "he who rewatches anime is oft bereft to learn his being was built on poor foundations" -Tolstoy, 1896

Anime, in general, can affect you psychologially. For example, one might have their preferences affected by watching different subgenre of hentai genre. Personally, I used to watch only vanilla or threesome (MFF), then gradually I started to get to know incest, loli, harem, DP... Now, I feel sick of myself enjoying some gangbang, rape, ntr, pregnant, traps and futanari...

The 3rd Madoka Magica movie broke my soul for a while. Honestly, I found it to be that bad.

Aldnoah Zero psychologically made me angry for a while. I was extremely disgusted.

Do horrible endings count? The Fairy Tail ending was so bad that it made me depress for days.

Can a bad anime damage you psychologically?

Not any worse than poorly thought out thread topics and the corresponding first post.

In all truth, when they are that bad, it makes people laugh, which is actually medically proven to be good for you.
You're never too old to watch anime.
If I ever stop watching anime, check my pulse I'm likely dead.

I wake up with coffee & anime, I go to sleep with coffee & anime.

Sorry if my sarcasm is bad, it's not my first language.

I've had anime damage me physiologically does that count?
Watched one of these new CGI shows and it strained my eyes and gave me blurry vision for a short time.

I watched serial experiments lain and became depressed for a week. Not because the show itself touched my deep down, but because I had to come to terms with the tragedy that people exist in this world who actually enjoyed it...
I don't care.

Lol, everything you're saying is so true. Even during the first time, I already thought about all you said, but not only that as in itself everything about these characters is handled very horribly:

But well, there are good things that I find thought. For example, Lelouch has a complex personality with a complicated morality. But it makes sense in him because of his past. However, many of the good things are just Lelouch or Kallen or C.C. and no many more, as there are many bad things. Nevertheless, it's not really a bad show (for the first season). It has many problems, as you know, but as I said, there are some things that are too good to be ignored.

I never understood the hate SAO. I respect opinions, but sometimes it's a bit extreme. Sword Art Online is a very bad show, but at least for me there is nothing that could be considered so offensive to be really awful.

I'm not even a fan of Lelouch to be honest so that escaped me too. C.C. is alright. I didn't think much of Kallen really. I think Lelouch only seemed smart because everyone kept making dumb decisions around him. He at least showed how stupid he can be

Ohhh well, let's just say that how you interpret "bad" would lean on the most cliche form of how you'll shitpost and bait in MAL.

There was a time I got depressed just only because of Kaiji. I don't know why I turned like that. My only concern is that, the main character was kind of dumb.

No. If an anime has any (lasting) affect, it cannot have been "bad".

Definitely doesn't count as a bad anime but if you as a kid unfortunately witnessed the infamous Eclipse scene from Berserk's tv version then I'd feel bad for you and you are probably scarred for life.
Fortunately for me, I was already past teen when I found out about Berserk but still doesn't mean I was ready enough for it
