THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
If I should sum it up in 1 word : SONOCCHIIIIIIIIII!!!!!

The movie is great. It really is. They captured the atmosphere really well. They really strike the 'heart' literally.

One thing I'm disappointed at is, the studio didn't give more time to animate the battle. They skipped some scenes and a few details on 'miko' thing too but it's ok, I guess. Seems I should read the source to find out if they really skip the final battle. As of now I've only read until chapter 7 of the novel.
Edit : the novel didn't write about the repeating mankai in detail either. they could've add that in anime though. oh well.

My favorite scene is when Sonocchi found out that Sumi had lost her memories. She shouted 'Wasshii!' but she should keep her emotions down as the vertexes are coming. After that she tied her ribbon to Sumi and went to her battle, knowing she won't die. 'I won't die, so we'll meet again'

Finally Yuuna appeared! This will connect to the 2014 series. I guess the best watching order is Yuuki Yuuna (2014) ep 1-7, then complete the Washio Sumi trilogy, then complete the rest of Yuuki Yuuna?

P.S. For those with yuri google

These movies did the Washio Sumi LNs not only a service but they even improved on it on a lot of fronts. I have nothing but respect for the people that worked on making this such a good adaptation. While there were a few bits left out or not explicitly explained like in the LN I still have to give this trilogy massive props.

A couple things the movies did not mention that anime only viewers might not know: Gin's terminal is passed on to Karin and Tougou can see dreams from the Shinju because she is both a hero and a miko.
These are just small nitpicks though. What a great adaptation overall

How did she become a Miko? The movie didn't explain that.

Mikos are just born with the ability to see visions given by Shinju-sama. Tougou just happens to be the only person to have been born with such ability yet at the same time also have a high hero aptitude so she was made a hero instead.

I LOVED that WaSuYu had adults. It made the scenes far more strong when you see the indifference, anger and/or regret of the parents and the teacher.

Agreed. They cut a few things but still managed to give better experience than the LN. I like how the movies really emphasized Gin as the main strength of the team, more than what they did in LN. It gives more impact on her death.

I also like what they did for the last scene. That huge number of Vertexes is actually more fit to connect to anime season1 since in season1 Mankai is really powerful, so you need to face great amount of enemies to Mankai 17 times more (in LN
).

The parting between Sonoko and Sumi(Tougou) is really more impactful than the LN, though it creates a minor plothole(?). Tougou's memory didn't disappear in one go (she still remember Gin?), while each Mankai is supposed to take one body part's function completely immediately. It's still a very good scene though.

All of my feels, we all knew how this was going to end, but man it still hurt so hard, you three sure deserve the title of heroes. The first 10 minutes~ were crazy feels, same for the finale

I read the source material beforehand and these movies sure as hell improved it, the great art style and sound add so much to the scenes.

Amazing movie trilogy, I loved it so much, 9/10 from my part, I'm so glad that this series gets so much love, this prequel deserved the adaptation.

That Yuuki Yuuna at the end <3 I can't wait for the sequel.

The sort of camera focus on Mimori/Sumi in this episode would have felt rather out of place considering the gravity of this installment. Plus, seeing Mimori in Yuki Yuna is a Hero transform is a bit more welcome: her restitution Coefficient of restitution there is much greater, if you catch my drift ;)

Having said that, this was one hell of a way to wrap up the Washio Sumi Chapter.

Every time Sonocchi Bankai :(

That ribbon looks nice on her indeed. Felt more attached to these 3 than most of YuYuYu's group, including "Tougou". Even knowing it was coming, shit still hits hard. Keiichi Okabe always sets the perfect mood. Not sure how I feel about the 4-koma in the second movie; I wasn't a fan of the mediocre SoL in YYY, but the skits made it feel like there was a gap in their character between movies 1 and 2. I did enjoy them though.

And yeah, adults were a nice addition.

My girls are too precious for this world, man.

Pretty much echoing what's been said already, but the adaptation as a whole was done justice and more. Keiichi Okabe will never fail to compose something I won't not like, and the whole soundtrack fit every scene so perfectly. Due to it, a lot of the scenes felt a lot more emotional than I remembered.

Now, we just need our NoWaYu adaptation.

I'm hoping we start off the YuYuYu S2 with Sonoko After

So Washi was actually Mimori the whole time? I had a feeling but had no idea. Man that was a rush but my feels got fucked big time. Also, the music bit at the final scene was Nier Automata vibes so yeah...thanks for the feels. Anyways, now that the connection has come full circle, sequel hype is real. Hard to believe Takahiro worked on something as good as this yet he put out the trash that is Akame ga Kill.
Don't believe the hype.

The whole ambience of the show was great. Just looking at the melodramatic soundtrack and listening to the dark and blue background from time to time make the show worth it already.

The buildup of emotions of our main characters have definitely flourished even more. "To learn hope, you must first understand the meaning of despair" - this story really know how it works.

Oh yeah, the Bankai was really cool.

And Sonochi was just as beautiful as the ending theme.

I will never regret watching this awesome of a third part of this movie!
The OST is supreme! by Okabe, Keiichi & Hoashi, Keigo which also made the OST of (NeiR: Automata)
so we now know what happened to Washio Sumi legs and her memory and as for Nogi Sonoko she lost one of her arm, and eye...damn! very tragic! and this is just a prequel!
Washio Sumi = x2 Mankai
Nogi Sonoko = x4 Mankai (just like Karin) but since Sonoko has 21 fairies on the Yuuki Yuuna series she may trigger many more Mankai...but is she on a coffin?
I'm ready for the 2nd season of Yuuki Yuna! LOL she just appeared before the ED music rolls!
5/5.
10/10. (first part Tomodachi was 8/10; second part Tamashii was 9/10; and third part Yakusoku is 10/10)

It's so sad that those girls have to live the hell as a sacrifice for a damn god! And to know that the system that they lost their body parts was created, shame on those people!
Sono and Sumi did a great job, it's sad to see that Sumi forgot everything and that Sono end up like that...

Let me just throw one my favorite to fit this movie on it's place.

Man this is just hitting hard so much. It's been long since I cried to anime like this. The feel is just too strong in this one. The feel that I get when Fuu outrage at Taisha on eps 9 in the main series is multiplied in this one. To be alive yet to be deprived of your sense one by one is harsher than death. Only the memories of them together that keep moving Sonoko forward.

And thus the tale of Washio Sumi as hero ended watching "stranger" defend her in unfamiliar place against unfamiliar enemy. Next time we see her she will be in her birth name Togo Mimori.
Kickstarter for Rokujouma is fully funded. Good work everyone. Lets wait for the result of our hard work together.

Absolutely nailed it this movie, and the overall movie trilogy did the novel more than just justice in my opinion. Really, not much to complain about. Amazing OST and production quality. It's been a rollercoaster ride of emotions.

10/10. Now I can't wait anymore for the sequel that's coming soon as well!

This series has absolutely been keeping it's standards right through. The tv anime caught me by surprise in production quality, characters, and story, but this trilogy has done none less than uphold the standard.

I really don't have anything to say, as everything was wrapped up flawlessly.

Dunno, hoped that they'd be more thorough with things like putting the music in sync (transformation sequence definitely wasn't). also didn't like the ost, didn't feel the same sort of depth I felt from the original yuuki yuuna TV series... The original ost felt like a fusion between Japanese traditional+ some brand of western folk, and parts 1 and 2 had a bit of their DNA but somehow this one didn't turn me on. Reduced"fan service"was good tho

From Gin's death to Sonocchi's sacrifice, it's been a rollercoaster. Not gonna lie, tears were shed.

An amazing trilogy, these last two movies in particular, were really well executed.

I'm so glad this was animated. I love the OST so much.

8.5/10.

Sonoko used her Mankai twenty times in order to drive back all twelve Vertexes and protect her, resulting in her losing function of most of her body. This scene was cut but we did see her use Mankai to fight the 12 vertexes she accidentally lured.

Despite the loss of their friend, it's kinda nice to see the movie still having a cherry mood with the local festival.

This third movie felt more like dealing with the aftermath of losing someone. The reality of death is felt among the community. I got slightly emotional from the final few minutes of the movie.

Sonoko is such a brave girl.

All I can say great, great movie and its pity Sonocchi went out like because I was literally in tears for her. As for Wasshi I feel bad for her because she won't remember her friends and her life as a hero. Also finally the person the title was named after appears, I must say she looks friendly and a Madoka lookalike.

I guess I will watch watch the series of 2014 to see more of her and will watch the 2017 one too.

But this one was great so it deserved a 9/10 from and hope the series will be my favorite.

What a great adaptation the trilogy has been. Amazing.

The movie has been full of emotions that I almost cried, especially the last part where Wasshii forget about Sonocchi. The use of 'Mankai' by the two girls made sad since they didn't know the consequences of using. :(

9/10 for this movie and the whole trilogy.
