I went to thetoptens website where he was ranked number 1 on top ten worst anime reviewers but a lot of the comments not only seemed like jokes but that he wanted to be high? I truly don't like or understand him at all. Anyone feel the same?

Is SAO your gateway drug into anime? If yes, it makes sense that you dislike him.
I don't really hate him though. I guess I just like his eye for symbolism and his interpretation of certain shows. Well, that is to say, I like his initial videos more than his current ones.

I've never watched him, but I'm really sick of seeing his "why SAO is the worst anime in history" etc. nonsense clogging up my recommendations.*

Okay, I get it: You harbor a passionate and frankly creepy negative fixation with SAO. Clear the thumbnail real estate so I can get more stuff I actually care about.

*Honestly, though, that's partially Google's fault for not giving me a straightforward way to block him from my YouTube recommendations. If anyone knows how to do that, feel free to message me, because I've not had any luck.
Important Note: I no longer - in any way, shape, or form - consider myself a moral nihilist (even in my old, convoluted definition of the term). I very much do believe there is such a thing as objective good and evil. In addition, I apologize for any of the posts I've made that are rude, aggressive, or otherwise unbecoming.

I've always striven to walk a path befitting a follower of Christ, and now recognize some of my old comments here as misguided if not outright wrong. If you happen upon them, pray do not let them darken your view of the God I serve. He is kind, even if I, at times, have not been.

Anime Youtubers are worthless in general so this isn't really surprising. The only one I have seen that's legitimately funny and entertaining quit making videos on it anyway (RIP Demo). Then again, I barely know anything about this guy aside from the fact that he does in-depth analysis of anime...openings?

Well, at least he can't be worse than that one kid who literally does a half an hour analysis of a fucking Tokyo Ghoul chapter every week and who apparently also gets mad if you call the series a shounen. Yeah...not exactly the kind of people I really want to know more about.

I never said people can't have their own opinion, but with how popular SAO is, people are going to watch it instead of looking for something that's better. In my opinon and Mother's Basement's opinion that show is terrible, and I don't wan't people to waste their time watching it because it's so popular that they've most definitely heard about it multiple times. Some newcomers to anime don't know that with anime, popular doesn't equal good. Mother's Basement saves newcomers and others who haven't watched SAO yet from watching that trash because of his influence, which, in my opinion, is a good thing.

I still think people should be able to watch something no matter bad or popular it is and make their own opinions and not follow anyone's guidlines on what they think others should watch but I guess thats why I'll never be a critic. That I can be proud of.

Double edge sword. While its good to get insight on shows every now and then, its also a very good thing to give shows a chance on your own and craft your own opinions because newcomers are also more effected by sheep culture in the sense that they start watching shows people rec to them and avoid ones people tell them to avoid.

And that to me shows that his channel has a lot more talk about negatives than positives. Where's the fun in watch someone ramble on about stuff he hates? Even if we both agreed on something we didn't like, I would rather move on than spend my time ranting about it.

I'm big fan of Digibro and Glass Reflection, but it took me a while to start watching Mother's Basement. I've warmed up to him a bit, his recommendations are really insightful and he has a really good understanding of OP construction. His analysis skills aren't as good as Digibro, but he's friends with him so their content is somewhat similar. He doesn't have enough videos published for me to binge watch, so I'm waiting for his channel to grow a bit before doing something like supporting him on Patreon. I'd recommend him!

Nope, bullcrap, I've seen his videos and they are overwhelmingly positive, SAO I do reckon is his biggest source of negativity.

It is fun because he tells what he finds wrong with it and tears it apart, it is fun for the same reasons why people like positive content, tho a lot of people just wanna circlejerk on both sides, it is a natural human reaction to be interested in other opinions of any kind, and what is the fun in making this negative thread? Move on... See how that works?

Tho just to clarify, personally I prefer 2-sided reviews/content rather than the pure black or white mentality of haters and fanboys.

Out of the videos I've seen I'm not a big fan of him tbh. Don't think his opinions are all that valuable.

@thatanimefreak02 - Well, yeah. His videos are good in general because a majority of the anime fandom are sheep and his videos cater to that majority. I saw a user post something in 2014 and agree with it:

- Only 1% of the anime fandom watch seasonals every season (outside shows like Rezero) and are actually hardcore enough to be considered that term.

It makes sense too. Outside myanimelist, most anime fans are casual and play games ontop of anime or have a life and work and just grow out of it except for a few titles. Even here, I would say the average is 2k-5k episodes?

Honestly I don't know what I was planning on getting out of this forum. i guess I wanted to see if anyone felt the same way. I guess I'm over the whole "bash on something" fad. To me the popularity wore itself out. I've been watching less and less videos from youtubers like cinemasins, honest trailers, and reviewers whose videos on bashing something are more popular than the rest. I don't like him and probably never will.

I like his opening analyses. His fight analyses might be good too, but I haven't gotten around to checking any of them yet.

You're generally better off finding people on MAL who share a lot of taste with you and getting suggestions from them than you are checking a review. It can be really hard to find a reviewer who has similar taste to you and shares a similar thought process when evaluating.

Three things:

1. "...People are going to watch it instead of looking for something that's better."

Since when have those two choices been mutually exclusive?

2. "I don't want people to waste their time watching it..."

Oh, yes, because God forbid I get three episodes into a series, decide I hate it, and move on to something else. What would I ever do without those sixty minutes I'd have to venture to see for myself? Or, wait, worse yet! What if I actually like the series in spite of what some YouTuber said?

(Please forgive the sarcasm: It's intended for illustrative purposes, not for the sake of being a jerk)

On a less sarcastic note: Compared to the risk of passing over something amazing, a few episodes' worth of time is no big loss. I don't regret giving Clannad a shot, even though it ended up boring me. Why? Because if I'd listened to every person who said "Don't watch this: it's terrible," I'd never have seen Re:Zero, or Unlimited Blade Works, or Akame ga Kill!, or any of a variety of other series I found fantastic.

Same goes for Hidan no Aria: For reasons I can't for the life of me articulate, I couldn't make myself watch past the second episode. I still don't regret ignoring the people who said it was terrible. If it means I get to see gems like the ones mentioned above, suffering through a couple of episodes of Hidan no Aria is nothing.

3. "Mother's Basement saves newcomers ... from watching that trash..."

Just out of curiosity, how many "newcomers" do you think are actually watching a guy who, as far as I've been able to tell, dedicates the majority of his channel to analyzing OPs? And, no, I'm not trying to be snarky: I'm legitimately asking the question.

Well, the reason why he makes all those SAO videos is because they get the most views and he admitted that himself. Not that many people would waste hours in making a video that no one's gonna watch.

So like...do you have a reason to dislike him? Kind of expected an explanation of why you didn't like someone if you make a thread about it. If it's like everyone is assuming and it's because he made negative videos about shows you like I don't see why that's a reason. People take that stuff too seriously, just like what you like and don't hold hard feelings to others for not sharing similar beliefs.
