I did my sports challenge that way because I changed the challenge type from type 1 to type 2(that wasn't offered at the time the challenge was created), after type two was made available. The 10 italicized make Easy 10/10 then I added another 10 to complete Medium 20/20. This is how the others work that are similar. Am unsure why they are not both counted.
