I'm glad Nobu's album is on the list, but sad about the news (problem by the record company, Lantis).

YAAAAY SO HAPPY TO SEE CASTE HEAVEN IN THE LIST. DAMN, WOULD LIKE TO KNOW IF THERE WAS A TONS OF MOAN IN THE CD XD

Edit:- I'm so happy to see Ensemble stars! in the list as well, can't wait to watch the anime, I hope the songs will sell greater when the anime is out.

Happy to see Utapri and Tokuen ranbu in the list as well, I feel bad right now, I really wanna purchase them in iTunes but they are not available. :( (available for JP account only)

Aaaaah, I'm glad to see Ensemble Stars ranking again... They couldn't be on top of the charts this week, unlike what UNDEAD did, but it's still an achievement. Akatsuki sold so little... But the songs are so good... They really are unpopular 😭 But they're my favorites... Well, Knights sold very well and they 100% deserved it, so I won't complain. Good job to them 💜

Because there aren't that many disc buying fans of IM@S. They only sell 100K with concert tickets and extras. They have too many girls and subgroups so it is quite fragmented. Their model is to make sales by getting their smaller fanbase to buy a zillion CDs per year from each subgroup. If they instead had one core group at a time they might, just might see something like the sales of μ's in their prime but instead IM@S continues to employ a shotgun approach. It works for them, allows for a lot of continuity but it means that there are limits to how much each release can sell.

but HTT of K-ON even outsold µ's when it comes to cd sales having 2 platinum discs... though µ's even the odds with their consistency and insane BD sales. I am starting to think that even if imas has only one core group.. they still can't get the figures of µ's without using concert tickets. Tokyo Dome within 5 years? Hmmm

You're right. Even if Idolmaster was concentrated to just the core group, they would not be able to sell as high as µ's without concert ticket serial codes, as the buying fanbase is still exactly the same. I would expect a fan of whichever Idolmaster sub-unit to also be a fan of the core group (765PRO ALLSTARS, CINDERELLA GIRLS, etc), so they will most likely buy both anyway. This is exactly the same case with µ's and Aqours, where the number of buying fans for them are generally higher than the sub-units themselves.

When did Houkago Tea Time get 2 platinum certifications for shipping > 250K copies? I looked at the RIAJ website, and I see they've achieved 10 gold disc certifications, but no platinum. Unless I missed it? But yeah, Houkago Tea Time had amazing CD sales during K-ON!'s prime. Definitely their music buying fanbase had to have been bigger than µ's, since their highest selling CD is 放課後ティータイム II with 204,606 sales after 35 weeks of charting. µ's' highest selling CD is the μ's Best Album Best Live! Collection II at 151,966 after 64 weeks of charting. However, if we compare the achievements of Houkago Tea Time and µ's, I think µ's is bigger, since they made it to the invitation-only Kouhaku, their Final Live was at Tokyo Dome rather than the smaller Super Saitama Arena, and they are the 2nd highest selling female musical act of all-time in terms of BD sales in Japan (AKB48 is #1 of course).

I also see that Girls Dead Monster and Lia achieved multiple gold disc certifications as well for Angel Beats!... while Idolmaster only has 1, and it was achieved due to concert ticket serial code sales doping, hmm.

I would expect a fan of whichever Idolmaster sub-unit to also be a fan of the core group (765PRO ALLSTARS, CINDERELLA GIRLS, etc), so they will most likely buy both anyway.
True enough for 765pro, but for Cinderella Girls this really isn't the case. Sub-units like Triad Primus (ANIMATION PROJECT 2nd Season 05) and LiPPs (STARLIGHT MASTER 02 Tulip) can and will outsell the core group. In fact, LiPPs doesn't have a single member who was in the main cast of the anime.

I know you like to belittle Idolmaster at every opportunity (it couldn't be more obvious from your posts that you greatly dislike the series). But don't worry, I'm not saying that Cinderella Girls would have near µ's level sales if the fanbase weren't as segregated, because it obviously wouldn't. Not that it matters though; you don't need to be as popular as µ's to be doing well enough. As a big fan of both Idolmaster and Love Live I'm happy that they're both very successful.

@ejc Additionally, "Cagayake! Girls" and "Don't Say 'Lazy'" were certified Platinum by the Recording Industry Association of Japan (RIAJ) for 250,000 full-track ringtone digital music downloads (Chaku Uta Full), respectively

can you please verify this information?

They barely outsold CINDERELLA GIRLS. Just look at the first week sales and then how long each of those CDs you mentioned actually stayed on the charts, and can you still tell me with confidence that isn't the case with Cinderella Girls? I will compare the 2 CDs you mentioned with the highest selling Cinderella Girls CD (that doesn't have an event ticket bundled):

32,059 49,590 13 THE IDOLM@STER CINDERELLA GIRLS ANIMATION PROJECT 2nd Season 01 Shine!! 15/08/05
24,884 52,039 32 THE IDOLM@STER CINDERELLA GIRLS ANIMATION PROJECT 2nd Season 05 15/10/14
31,274 53,277 23 THE IDOLM@STER CINDERELLA GIRLS STARLIGHT MASTER 02 Tulip 16/05/18

So, Shine!! has slightly higher first week sales than Tulip. Now compare their sales totals after 13 weeks of charting:
49,590 13 THE IDOLM@STER CINDERELLA GIRLS ANIMATION PROJECT 2nd Season 01 Shine!! 15/08/05
47,754 13 THE IDOLM@STER CINDERELLA GIRLS ANIMATION PROJECT 2nd Season 05 15/10/14
49,874 13 THE IDOLM@STER CINDERELLA GIRLS STARLIGHT MASTER 02 Tulip 16/05/18

Tulip has slightly higher sales, but nothing ground breaking to justify that the Idolmaster sub-units can significantly outsell the core group, except for staying on the chart for longer due to the mobile game.

It would interest you to know, that Idolmaster was the first idol anime I ever watched, and it was enjoyable for me, but Cinderella Girls didn't not strike a chord for me when I watched it. I don't hate Idolmaster, I just don't like the dirty sales tactics the staff of Idolmaster employ to dope up their sales. Did you know that Idolmaster's nickname on 2ch is "TicketMaster", in relation to how many event tickets they have bundled on consecutive CDs this year? Yes, Love Live! isn't completely innocent either in terms of using event tickets, but at least they do it on more expensive BDs rather than cheap CDs, and they also employ a "1 serial is valid per person" policy for the lottery, so that it discourages the buying of multiple copies.

I'm not saying Idolmaster isn't successful, because it is in comparison to every other late-night idol series (except Love Live! of course), but if Idolmaster ever employs that policy Love Live! employs for its lottery, then I will be more inclined to believe that their sales are a more reasonable representation of the normal buying fanbase, and the fanbase that only buys for event tickets.

Thanks, I found it. I'm happy to know that K-ON! also achieved something like that since i'm also a big fan of K-ON! I never knew the RIAJ also certifies based ringtone downloads, but it would make sense since K-ON! had many fans from junior high and highschool, who are more likely to buy the songs digitally rather than the physical CDs (which is what is counted with the disc certifications at RIAJ). It makes me wonder what other anime-related ringtones have had digital download certifications.

You're right, the sales are very similar. However, these are just two of an enormous number of subunits in Cinderella Girls. The fact that any of them could have similar sales suggests to me that if most of the fans of the subunits bought into the core group, the sales of the core group would be ahead of subunit sales by much more. But this is indeed hard to prove or disprove.

And yes, I'm aware of the ticket thing. At least the 4th live codes were spread between 3 albums and a single. It could have been worse lol.
