"Even a man could get pregnant" omg that was hella gay but I loved all the gay moments lmao(please dont make them just bait,I keep praying for that every episode). Also I'm so glad that the expected didn't happen meaning blonde Yuri didn't actually win and moved his ass back to Russia. I get his character and I can see why all Tumblr is all over for him but I can't stand it,I have this urge to tell Yurio to shut up everytime he opens his mouth. I'm so happy my boy Yuri won |

Finally we've seen some action from both Yuris. I loved both to be honest. I've never been a fan of yaoi or whatever this might be but this anime is just amazing so far. Man!!! That OP is getting more and more beautiful! I'm in love with it! <3 <3 |

shirley77 said: Victor only promised to choreograph a short program for Yurio's senior debut if he won the junior division without doing any quads. There was never any promise to coach him nor any indication they were anything but rink mates taught by the same coach. The coaching wager was made specifically for the Hot Spring on Ice contest. In fact, as he already had a coach (Yakov), Yurio really had no need to try to get Victor in that capacity other than to deny Yuuri of his expertise and to give himself an extra boost toward winning the Grand Prix. There's also no indication Victor wasn't equal in his treatment of the two or gave Yuuri more time or help interpreting his routine. Yurio just wasn't able to bring out what he wanted to portray in his performance as he was too distracted just trying to perform it. And he knew he hadn't done his best despite a technically perfect performance, you could see it on his face, hear it in his thoughts. Being praised for a personally disappointing performance was a bitter pill. Then he was forced to acknowledge how well Yuuri was doing. What did you expect Victor to do at the end? Yurio left just as Yuuri was finishing his performance. Was Victor supposed to let the audience wait around while he ran after him? If anything it was Yurio who showed poor professionalism by not sticking through the official winners announcement. As for myself. I am enjoying this show immensely. It lives up to Victor's motto of always surprising (and delighting) the audience. I didn't expect Victor to do anything other than what he did in the anime? Did you not read my last line? I'm glad the writer is consistent with his characterization. It's probably not a hard job though considering how one dimensional he is. As for myself, I am not enjoying this show immensely. Too much gay and ship baiting, even worse than Free! and that was my limit |

Look. If this series doesn't commit for the blatant romantic interest between two of the mains by the end, it's gonna be shit. There's no salvation to this. The romance tone is too dominant to get away with just fanservice, "haha no homo tho". And I'm really enjoying the animation, the ost, the characters by themselves, their goals regarding ice skating and everything, but it will be all for nothing if it's just some empty fanservice. I'm not telling they must be a couple by the end, but all this interest has to be handled with in a serious, human way. I'm so sick of all the romantic/queer baiting I'll feel actual disgust if they shove it down my throat like that. UUUUUUUGH |

You haven't yet? I've been rewatching it almost on a daily basis. Not only is this something I can rarely say for an anime, but it continues to entertain every time I see it. @ yuyuka I can also understand why people feel differently. It's incredibly easy to become emotionally invested in this anime's characters, especially one you favor. I'm as guilty as anyone else. But you also can't ignore the facts. They're involved in a highly competitive sport. Being able to accurately and realistically gage your own abilities to understand your own potential and that of others is a necessity if you want to perform at your best. Yurio, used to being the big fish in the small pond of the junior division, hasn't fully comprehended how much tougher the senior division will be while Yuuri, knowing all too well, persists in underestimating himself. One has too much confidence while the other has almost none. Both need a nudge in the right direction. So Victor's cruelty acts more along the lines of a tough love, cruel to be kind variety. You also have to acknowledge Yurio arrived under several misconceptions. From the two Yuris' conversation in the lobby at Ice Castle it's obvious Yurio was under the impression the only reason Victor was coaching Yuuri was also due to a promise. Quite a lot of his anger was from his assumption Victor was forgetting the promise to him to fulfill the one to Yuuri. Plus he saw the situation as Victor endangering his own career to help someone without sufficient talent, while a more worthy prospect, himself, was ignored. But Victor also has every right to make and follow through with his own decisions. And coaching Yuuri was entirely his decision, to the surprise of everyone, especially Yuuri. So despite his misconceptions, Yurio had no right to show up and demand anything other than the short program he'd been promised. Again, it's a matter of tough love. As Victor told him, no short program, even one choreographed by him, would guarantee Yurio would win the Grand Prix. Yurio had to fight for that win himself. So, yes the Hot Spring on Ice was a reality check for the junior champion, in terms of his own shortcomings and the level of competition he'd be facing, to bring home that he was entering an entirely different, much tougher, league. Seen in those terms, the competition was a far gentler way of Yurio learning this than in his first senior competition, in the full glare of the more critical international audience. It also proves Victor's genius because he was able to achieve so much, on so many levels, with just one competition. Yes, he's capricious, but we also see how he uses that to help both Yuris in his own unique way. Flawed, sure, everyone is, but also a very honest, caring man with a lively humour, remarkable teaching ability and really unfair amount of personal charm. And I wouldn't worry about Yurio. I can see him showing up for unannounced visits when they least expect it. |

I've been burned too many times before, but I would really loved to be proven wrong in this case! sidenote: totally nhf the fetishizing and homophobic undertones of a lot of the comments, but what can you do As long as said fetishists are aware of the fact that it's only a fantasy and aren't homophobes against LGBT people in real life (ironically and sadly enough that seems to be the case with a lot of Japanese yaoi fans) I don't mind at all (And yeah I'm also hoping they'll become a couple in the last episode) |

I can see him showing up for unannounced visits when they least expect it. I think Yurio had every right to show up and demand from someone who promised him something so important, to make a choreography of his senior debut, and ask this person what is going to happen now because said person acted impulsive and selfish for his own goals not even telling his coach about it. It should have been better for Victor to say what he is planning to do, be straighfoward with Yuri and thus breaking the promise that moment so Yuri wouldn't have to follow him in Japan and ask about said promise which is also forgotten because plot demands it. The thing with this promise is that Victor never broke or made it happen. Yuri turned it to Victor following him back to Russia if he wins the competition Victor setted up. I get why the competition needed to happen, plot again demands it, but I still feel he could just give Yuri his choreography and make him go back to Russia and that's it. I am totally fine with Yuri losing because as you said it's a reality check for him. His arrogant and cocky attitude, him being a brat and underestimating his rivals, not listening to his coach and Victor about how he can change if he does this or that, yes he needed to lose to realize what the senior devision really is. And I am glad, because as I said it will give him character development (I hope so) and make him a better athlete. For now I don't find Victor honest, I am not sure what his plan with Yuuri is or what his overall goal. I find him charming and flirty, someone who can motivate people if he wants to, but also, I feel a certain sadness and loneliness coming from him. I am sure the anime will address it. I hope Yuri doesn't only show up for visits. I mean yeah it will be fun but he is 3rd main and promoted as such. He won't have the focus of Yuuri or Victor, but If the creator decided for him to be back in Russia, I hope he gets his main character focus but time will tell. That episode was so good! Yuri and Victor are just non stop flirting with each other, lol Yurio's such a third wheel. I'm still not over that whistle. I loved their routines too, I was a little scared that Yuri was going to lose right after Yurio finished his piece, but tuns out there was nothing to worry about. Waaaaaaaa ! |

I don't see how those who make the show can avoid the yaoi tag at the end without losing respect and credibility as writers. " if it's just some empty fanservice" then the show is a bad joke and typicaly what's called inconsistent writing. As for the exact kind of end, don't forget japaneses love open-ends or bittersweet ones. I didn't understand the glances between Yurio and Yuuko, did they want to start a romance between a teen and a married mother of three? :) Is it the reason why Victor has no "interest" in Yurio? He knows already he's hetero? |

Oh. My. God. This episode had my fujoshi side sprinting to catch up. I mean. There wasn't any hardcore smut or actual yaoi, but the fanservice was killing me. In a good way. 'Cause that's totally possible. But I REALLY REALLY REALLY liked it. I mean the dance was done really well, although the costumes were a bit odd, but I guess that's to be expected, as it is men's figure skating. Not that I have anything against how tight or sheer it was. Oh god. I've gotta go stop my nosebleed. |

I need to say something to the skeptics out there, the ones who are annoyed with YoI, the ones who believe it’s yaoi shit. Yuri on Ice is gonna change shit. It is a big deal. We’re not screaming over some spineless fanservice or some homoerotic subtext. You’ve probably seen the screenshots and gifs out of context and thought, ‘wow, that looks pretty gay.’ It is gay. Really gay. This is an anime that is not labeled as yaoi- meaning, it is not basic, fanservice intended for women. It is not shounen-ai, where it simply teases the watcher for hints of homosexuality. Of course, there is fanservice- butt shots, body shots, what have you- that is placed really damn well throughout. But so far, this show is not queerbaiting. So far, only three episodes in, Yuri on Ice has been smashing anime stereotypes one after another. This is unlike we’ve seen in sports anime. This is almost comparable to No. 6; an anime with a solid, well-done plot that so happens to have a gay romance rather than a straight one. However, Yuri on Ice isn’t just that. There is no doubt this show is one about sexual awakening. (See episode 3) Not only is it unique that this show is about sexual awakening, but it is between two men. It is very real, and not made fun of. It is not a joke. It is not a facade to draw the FangirlsTM in. It's fucking real. The act of combing one’s hair is an intimate act between lovers in Japan. That was focused on in the ending sequence of Instagram posts. In episode 3 alone, there was the significant dialogue of Yuri as he skated about how he found his eros in embracing his femininity. Yuri felt more comfortable being ‘the woman seducing the playboy,’ the playboy being Victor. Victor’s whistle was a skillful and clever way to give that away all too obviously.THAT WHISTLE...Ehm. If you haven’t watched Yuri on Ice yet because you believe it’s all ya'll think it's all fanservice think again buddy ol' pal. Both of those shows, while absolutely beautiful and I personally enjoy them both, are constantly skirting around homosexuality. They do everything to imply romantic attraction, but do not actually take the next step. They tease but refuse to deliver..............THAT WHISTLE! No, this show is gay, whether you like it or not. You can deny a shitload anime of being gay,but you cannot deny this one. I hope this show continues to do what it’s doing. If nothing comes of Victor and Yuri’s relationship, this show will still make history as the biggest queerbaiting shit storm ever. If it continues doing what it's doing, it'll be a while till we see another one like this one. |

I adore and really appreciate Victor's guidance. It was very uplifting to see Yuri gain confidence and he recognized his own identity - why be the playboy when it's just not him? He fit the role of the woman being pursued from his story very well... He wanted Victor to look at him and be proud of his performance. :) I want to see how their pork cutlet bowl meal goes <33 I hope Yurio comes back... ^^ He's only 15, so it makes sense that he didn't have a solid sense of his identity. His greed - that desire to win was very obvious toward the end of his performance... This was a very motivating episode. :) I loved it! AHH! I just got reminded of the funny comments too!! xDD LOL when Yuri said, "It's enough to make even me, a man, pregnant! Such eros!" Victor's eros and agape on ice... Definitely a genius <3 I really like the Yuri x Victor moments, like when Yuri smirked and Victor whistled...and when Victor gave Yuri a hug which had our shy boy make his confident speech :) |

Btw, you can click the "Quote" button under a post to copy paste it and then writing your reply. It's easier that way to find the post because MAL notifies you. The entire opening scene of ep. 2 was their coach, Yakov, trying to convince Victor not to go to Japan. I think we can take it as given Victor informed his coach of his immediate plans. If he chose not to also inform his rink mates, that was his prerogative. And as an adult, he has every right to set his own goals. He certainly has no obligation to base/explain his action/decisions on what Yurio, a 15 year old boy totally unrelated to him, wants. Unless, as with the promise, it's an obligation he chose to take for himself. And on that subject, in the flashback (ep. 2) where Victor originally makes it Yurio looks to be about 13, 14 at most to me. So this promise is at least 1 or more years old. With his own busy career, I think it's understandable that it may have slipped Victor's mind for a time. All Yurio had to do was keep reminding him of the promise until he anted up, which he probably would've been happy to do. But the program didn't necessarily require Victor's presence to learn. It could've been sent in video form and Yakov could've helped Yurio learn the choreography. If Yurio insisted on learning from Victor himself, it could've (considering the two Yuris managed to learn their programs to exhibition level in about a week) been roughly learned over a single weekend in Japan, then fine-tuned in Russia. Instead we have Yurio not only demanding the new choreography but Victor's return to Russia. When Victor counters with the idea of the competition (and at no time does he say he's going back on his promise) to see who can surprise an audience more, it's Yurio who comes up with "Victor will do whatever the winner says. If those are the terms, I'm in!" In the later scene where the music is revealed and Victor brings down the hammer, he only says if both Yuris aren't up to his standards in the time set, he wouldn't choreograph programs for either of them. He wasn't talking about Eros and Agape. He already had those ready for them to learn. This is when Yurio progresses to not only a winning debut program but 'Victor returns to Russia to become MY coach'. Yes, Yurio lost the competition, but since Victor only specified him (and Yuuri) achieving a certain level of performance (and he clearly tells Yurio his is the best he's ever done, it was Yurio who was dissatisfied) it wouldn't surprise me if the promised choreographed program is sent sometime in the future in time for Yurio's senior debut. |

He was seducing Victor and Victor fell for him *prepare my CANONS!* HELPING YOU TO PREPARE THOSE CANONS. Victor totally fell for his sweet innocence in prattling him about. He has finally come to terms with his real feelings!!!! (knocks head against my tombstone) |

Definitely a genius <3 I really like the Yuri x Victor moments, like when Yuri smirked and Victor whistled...and when Victor gave Yuri a hug which had our shy boy make his confident speech :) WHEN VICTOR WHISTLED. Yes, this did it in. It was the whole clap on the back thing going on like "Yuri, you've just pulled me into your snare" AUGHHHH these two |

I think Yurio's skating scene was a bit off, especially when compared to Yuri's, but this anime is doing great all production aspects considered. I just hope this level of quality continues (or that it improves, even better) through the next episodes as well. Does anyone know how many it will have? I see the main page doesn't have a number yet. |

shirley77 said: The entire opening scene of ep. You are right about the coach, I forgot that scene, my bad. As for the promise to Yuri, I still think Victor should have remembered the promise and since he is such a forgetful and busy person, I don't know, write it down somewhere or something. Maybe the fact I was an athlete comes here that I feel frustrated about this whole thing: When you make a promise of such a high profile, you should also remember it. Not only the other party, but you as well. Victor knows he forgets stuff as stated when he sees Yuri in Japan, so I think he should make note to have this promise written somewhere. Yuri reminding him could also be a solution but a promise is between 2 or more people, so all the parts are responsible for its action. So I don't see why Yuri should remind him of it, and Victor not take action to also remember it himself. A program requires the physical presence of the person who is going to teach you about it. A video is vastly different from the real thing. I have done choreography before and 2D=/=3D. The person teaching you can also see your mistakes more easily and correct you, and you (as a someone who is learning) having someone be there and guide you also adds a lot to experience and performance. Someone else, experienced helping you, it's totally fine but what I got from the flashback is that Victor promised Yuri himself to teach him that or else he could have Yakov do the teaching from the beginining and not bother regardless him going to Japan or not. I am aware Yuri came up with the coach thing and demanding Victor back. He most likely didn't like Yuuri, someone he saw as inferior to him, having Victor be his coach. But Victor coming with the competition (he knew Yuri would say yes) when he could just give a choreography to Yuri and teach him about in one week period instead of what happened, means to me Victor can read people really well and probably guide them even though his means are not very straighforward. I don't know if he still wants to send a choreography program to Yuri or even Yuri accepting it. Victor decided to focus on Yuuri and he should do that. Yuri will keep going with Yakov and should have him to do his program. While the promise is not broken, I think it shouldn't be on the line either. Both decided to follow their own paths about what they want to do at the end. |

Everytime I watch and episode I feel like it would be an excellent anime except for the exagerated comedic animation. But the jokes are very good and we can watch a really artistic piece of scenes in every play. |

Props to the animators on tailoring to the characters properly. Yuri's performance lacked polish, Yurio's was very precise, and of course Victor's movement was the most immaculate and fluid. I expect that the animation will change along with the characters through the series, and am excited to see it. |

CothN said: I need to say something to the skeptics out there, the ones who are annoyed with YoI, the ones who believe it’s yaoi shit. I really appreciate what you said here, and I really do hope this continues the way it is. I am glad it is simply labeled as a 'Sports' anime, because above all else, that's what it is. This is a story of determination, and hard work to perfect a craft that these characters have invested their lives in. Sure it looks like there will be some homosexual romance, but it will add to the story without dominating it. Not that I don't enjoy your typical Shounen Ai or Yaoi - because I do, but this series is so refreshing because it looks like for once, this will be a story featuring a gay relationship, while not primarily about a gay relationship. I think that is really important - not getting caught up in focusing on, or making a joke about that dynamic, but rather integrating it smoothly into an otherwise 'standard' series with a sturdy and interesting plot. |

I really like how this show has GOOD fanservice with atual emotions. Yuri didn't only evolve in ice skating but he also realised his sexual attraction to his hero. (at least that's what I've got with this episode). I didn't really get what upset Yurio so much, but I'm guessing it's because Victor tried to change him or else he wouldn't cosider him worth of his teaching. I would be mad too and I'm looking forward to see him reach his highest potential while keeping his style. |

I don't see how those who make the show can avoid the yaoi tag at the end without losing respect and credibility as writers. Oh the glances between them! I think she quickly became a mother figure for Yurio. If you remember Yurio's backstory flashbacks, he says to his grandfather "I can do it even without mom", or something like that, so he probably had an absent mother, if not dead. Since Yuuko is a kind person and a good mother, she instantly saw through Yurio and instinctively supported him through the competition. He can be an excellent skater, but he's just a grumpy teen with grumpy teen problems after all. I think Victor isn't flirtatious with Yurio because he's too young for him, because he's still just a kid and because he spent a lot of time already with Yurio, as they shared their coach. Flirts like Victor often are quick to move between targets of attention, so he maaaybe sometime could have teased Yurio, but has not the same interest now. I feel it's more because of the two first reasons I mentioned though. So, in my opinion, it has nothing to do with Yurio's sexuality at all :) |

I hope you don't mind me clearing up the genre thing, but in theory it's like this: Yaoi is a show with explicit sex between two men. The (male) gay version of hentai. Shounen-ai (or boys love - BL) is a romance driven story in which the main couple is composed of two men. It does NOT display graphic sex at all. The main couple hardly ever even kiss. Much like any romance shoujo anime out there, only gay. In this two genres, anything else in the story is a secondary plot. Like if it's fantasy adventure, or high school drama, etc it's only showcased as an ambient. In Yuri!!! on Ice's case, the romance comes after the Sports genre, like it happens all the time but, since it's two guys, it isn't common. No.6, which @Cothn mentioned, was similar in this point. It was political and about a dystopian future, but there was also romance between the two main characters, who happened to be male. |

Loved it. One thing I noticed in episode 2 is that when Victor asked Yuri about his ex-girlfriends is that he didn't actually use the word for girlfriend. When talking about himself too. He said 'koibito' which is gender-neutral, but the subs just decided to make girlfriend out of it. I didn't expect it to be this gay but I want more. |
