Holy shit what an ending!! One of the Greatest Finales i've ever seen.
Man if only the whole anime was like the last 3 episodes it would've been easily the greatest thing ever created.
There was a lot of random boring filler episodes.
But those 3 episodes definitely changed my opinion on the series.
Very good show 8/10

Wow a really good ending very bittersweet if it wasn't for a couple of weaker episodes I would give it 10/10.

oh no. That was a one heavy episode for my heart to take. I heard many people say that Cowboy Bebop ended beautifully but what? Oh my Spike, my poor Spike. I wanted him to come back and live like always with Jet and Faye but he was already dead to begin with.

If you are going to disagree with me, don't bother talking to me. I will seriously hurt you!

Didnt liked how it ended, not about him dying, but it is like it just ignores the other characters, and just ends there, major mood killer for me there, it still gets the 10 because it did alot right, till the very ending, and the ending didnt sucked BUT didnt left me satisfied, like something is missing and I m still waiting for it to came.

The final episode was fantastic. One of the greatest endings I've ever seen in an anime.

This show gets a solid 10/10 from me. Every single episode was a masterpiece. Enjoyed the series to the core.

I'm not sure about that ending to be honest. So spike dies and that's it? What about faye and jet? Don't get me wrong. I liked the ending but i wish they expanded more on the other characters after Spike's death. That's my one and big complaint.

He was the mc of this story so it is natural that with his death the story would end

Yeah. I understand that he was the MC but that's like saying the other characters didn't matter. I just wish they added a few scenes of them after.

It's not confirmed Spike dies, as the creator himself verifies that it's an open-ending. So if you don't like how it ended and how he just leaves the characters like that, that's fine; there's no proof that your interpretation is invalid.

I'm really not satisfied with that

I thought it was a good ending. it provided suitable closure for the series and didn't waste time with extra baggage.

Cowboy Bebop was 7/10 for me (which keep in mind is a highly-positive score for me). The pacing and action were great, the characters and setting were likeable and each of these aspects fit the other like a glove, but it just felt like there was something missing throughout, as though the show was so focused on being "westernised" that it forgot to do anything groundbreaking itself.

I can see why Cowboy Bebop is considered a classic, but I honestly prefer Watanabe's later works like Samurai Champloo and Space Dandy.

The creator said it's either/or, as in it's an open ending. And it's not a BS claim that he actually did survive.

So yeah, if you preferred him to live, then that's just as plausible as him dying at that moment.

Shouldn't have cared for that woman, to be honest.

Of course, the ending was spoiled for me long ago, but it was all about the journey. The finale didn't make me that emotional. Since I saw it coming, I could come to terms with it way before watching the final episode - so I sort of have a similar attitude to the Indian. People die.

Good series.

I have barely enough words to express the emotions i feel right now but i can without a doubt say that cowboy bebop is a Masterpiece in every sense of the word. They could not have made the ending better and the events leading up to it. Personally cowboy bebop is worthy of 10/10 and has earned its place as one of the greatest anime series of all time!.

I'm loss at words. Just perfect and spectacular piece of work.
Unfortunately, I was spoiled about the ending. I wonder if it impacted me more...

Initially, I thought what was so good about Cowboy Bebop w/o any overlaying plot and story, with me being only few episodes in. It didn't take me long to realize that its way of narrating a story and to perfectly cover it a single span of an episode is where it excels at. Although there was bit of a discord b/w the episodes of the anime but I ended up liking them all. Be it comedy themed or the serious ones.

Everything from the theme, direction, action and adventure together constitutes it as a classic masterpiece.
But I gotta say, the music was the best part about it. Couldn't imagine the soundtrack and songs to be more perfect. Listening to them gives really calm and nostalgic feeling. Truly iconic.
Well that's all what I wanted to say

Bang!

That episode was the greateast of the serie. Everything fits in the end, like when the native indian said "when we die we became stars..." and the endding music has that idea. Actually, in my point of view, that music is fundamental to the episode's meaning.

See you space cowboy.. For good :,( R.I.P..

The show was so good and I can definitely see why it's considered such a classic. The characters were all likable even the background characters (who are some of the best bad guys I have seen in anime so far. Mad Pierrot I am looking at you).

The soundtrack is also really good and the animation still stands up today.

9/10 but it was so damn close to a 10. Guess I still am looking for that elusive 5th 10/10.

Man this final :( This turned really dark in the last episodes. ;_;

Jet and Spike lost all 3 members they were forced to take into their crew (well Faye came back I guess). Spike loses his woman forever after he finally got her back. And the store lady gets killed for whatever reason. And then Spike runs off alone to get himself killed (like the previous 2 fights against Vicious didn't end bad enough for him). The one guy he still had on his side in the syndicate dies helping him, too. Even the bounty hunter show was shut down few episodes ago D:

So that's it? Not happy with that. Well. It's not like I didn't expect it after he told the fucking cat story. Still kinda disappointing after he survived all that shit that happened to them. Also kinda disappointing they didn't show what Jet and Faye are going to do now. Seriously. Jet already took it quite hard when Faye, Ed and Ein left. And Faye almost lost it in front of him before he even left because it was obvious what he was going to do.

well. all in all pretty enjoyable except for the end. That was not what I signed up for :( I mean writing-wise it was brilliant. Just not what I wanted to see.

All in all I really only have one complaint about the entirety of the series. It started with a lot of action but slowed down quite a bit until the end. There were really just a few action-packed episodes in between but more often than not it was quite calm during the middle-part.

Dammit! Only if that sliver haired didnt showed up, Spike could have been best male anime character. That means, the last 2-3 episode just ruined this show beautiness.

Loved the OP and ED theme... but! the ending was a total failure!

Still I wish a remake (without that silvered hair girl) of this anime since it is really popular in MAL..then it will get hit more popular!

Fantastic ending, the music and the camera panning upwards towards the sky as his star goes out was the most incredible way to end this series. I couldn't be happier with this ending and I think that his death was a happy one as he freed himself from the dream he had been living in and went out with a 'bang'. Tears were shed.

Honestly, I didn't expect Spike to have to die. After everyone else was able to go back and fix their past or come to terms with it. Spike was left, but to die in the end. I wouldn't say it was perfect ending, but it was quite an ending. Unlucky, but something had to be done. Also, Julia being killed off while having 5 minutes worth of screen time was unexpected and unfortunate.

This is a timeless series.

- use of brightness/lighting in Spike's last scene
- the white birds (doves?) passing by
- camera progressively panning up to the sky
- star fading away
- OST mentioning the joys of freedom

all these examples are enough evidence to prove that Spike has passed away, but it is a death we should all accept. finally being able to fulfil his duty and put an end to the troublesome past that has tied him back for so long. there possibly couldn't be any better way to carry out his departure, as it was the most appropriate and satisfying closure of the series to me, but i still can't shake off this feeling of misery that resonates deep within me. of course we all wanted Spike to be alive, but his whole purpose of living on was for this moment, and sadly it costed him his life. aside from his friends grieving for him, i think its safe to say that Spike can happily live on in the afterlife without any regrets. Most people probably did think he died, with that “Bang!”, but there´s no spoiler or anything that confirms he actually died. Spike could´ve just fell unconscious because of his wounds, Spike could´ve just fell unconscious because of his wounds, and maybe the rest of the Bebop (minus Ed and Ein) would come to pick him up. 8/10 overall.

Even if that was the case he is surrounded by enemies. Do you think they would take him to a hospital so he can recover, the answer is no btw, and until Ed and Ein ( why would Ed and Ein go to a place filled with armed guys anyway, it doesn't make sense) or rest of the Bebop crew gets there, they would shoot him in the head just to make sure he is dead. Not to mention none of the Bebop crew knows where Spike went in the first place. Use your brain next time before making absurd theories.

The movie takes place between Cowboy Funk and Brain Scratch. We know this because Cowboy Andy can be seen in the Halloween parade dressed as a samurai, and Big Shot is still on the air (the show announces its cancellation at the beginning of Brain Scratch).

What a MASTERPIECE I never thought this anime would be such a success, I was really shocked when he went down I literally froze like the entire ending T^T R.I.P

I think that ending was the best since Julia died Spike was like half man with no
reason to live and that eye was a real problem for him living in your own past betrayed by your best friend at least he went down with a bang ;-;

Yes! Anyone else felt like the ending was ambiguous? I felt like it didnt really confirm anything. If you look at the whole series, Spike is the one we know least about, and it feels like the ending has the same uncertain feel.

The whole series is kind of ambiguous, so it's really not out of place that the ending is as well. c: Personally I think there was no need to show the other characters, because their stories were already finished - Faye found (or didn't find) what she was looking for and realized it wasn't important any more anyways, Jet was finally able to tie up the loose ends in his life (like finding out why his ex left him), and Ed and Ein were never interested in the past. Since none of them were mired in the past any more, they were able to move on towards the future. Only Spike couldn't, because he never really saw a future for himself. He lived long enough for the past to catch up to him, and then there was nothing left.

dryrose said:
It also looks like his eye was closed (was he shot there?), his left eye, the one that sees the past. Wouldnt this make him alive (or wake up), because he would then have both eye seeing the present? This would be more in line with the other character developments, every one of them were no longer stuck up with the past

I don't think Spike ever specifies which is his false eye, the one that sees the past. The only hint we get is in Sympathy for the Devil, when we see Spike getting operated on. I could be wrong, but I think it hints that his right eye is the one that was taken out. If that's correct, then that means that, in the end, the eye that sees the present is closed, and the one that sees the past is open. He was still stuck in the past right up to the end, with no present or future, and so he died.

dryrose said:
Plus the last message "You're gonna carry that weight" who would it be addressed to?

The consensus I've seen is that it's us, the viewers. We get the burden of trying to figure out what it was all about. :B

An amazing episode.

It was nice to see Spike and Julia go on the run, but sad she got shot down! that was sad, I didn't expect her to get killed off, especially not after we only just met her.

Spike going back for a meal with Jet and seeing Faye was bittersweet!

Shin and Spike going against the Syndicate and up the find Vicious was an amazing epic battle! It was just so spectacular and breath taking.

I can't believe Spike could have been the new leader of the Syndicate, he was next in line but it makes sense!

The fight between Spike and Vicious was really great to see! two opposing sides duking it out to the death.

Of course it ended with Vicious getting shot in the chest and falling over dead, but at the same time Spike had got a shot off at him, he had also slashed Spike's stomach with his sword! D:

So, Spike said goodbye with a fingergun "bang" to the other Syndicate members and then collapsed and presumably and sadly died. He literally went out with a bang.

I wish he hadn't died!

Although I already knew since I saw someone spoil it on here a while ago.

So, after watching the movie before the series and watching half of the series probably 13 years ago or so I finally finished it! (I re-watched all the episodes I had already seen again ofc) I might re-watch the movie now, this time after, I thought of watching it in between like suggested but then didn't. I mean it did come out after anyway originally.

It was an amazing series and I am glad I finally watched in it's entirety as it was epic and I loved all the characters and music so much! <3

Spike <3

I give it a 10/10! EPIC <3
