Also the most important thing is all girl are the best girls.I would highly recommend Rokujouma no Shinryakusha?! because it's a fuckin' awesome harem series. It's certainly a step above the rest. The male MC isn't really the main focus, which immediately sets it apart - instead, they all come together because they're fighting over a room for their own reasons. It's funny, the cast is great (Yurika is <3) and it's free from a lot of the bullshit that plagues other typical harem anime. @NeoAnkara can explain this one better than me though. |

Why do people like ecchi? Two reasons: PLOT (not plot but plot) Because they have fantasies I don't really watch harem though, so I wouldn't really trust me, but, I mean why not answer anyway? |

Because waifus. There's no other reason. I've played some videogames just because the dudes in them were hot, so I'm sure people often do the same with anime. If you think about it, is pretty sad. |

i watch because i love tsunderes and every harem has one (if not, more!) token tsundere. they also tend to have good character designs overall but once in a blue moon they will spawn what i consider complete and utter character design perfection. im talking about julis alexia von riessfeld of course. |

Self-insertion, wish fulfillment, and decent to meh comedy. I watch them even though I know they're most likely gonna be below average. I guess I'm just waiting to find one that's actually good or something. Maybe it's the sub-par, blue-balls fap material. Or both. |

I usually watch harem anime just to relax and kill time. Most harems are mindless, so it just presents everything to you and thus you do not have to pay much attention to it. I think this type of anime is made to be watched in-between the more serious ones just to get your head straight. But I guess I am new, so maybe my opinion will change over time |

Because in harem you can choose the girl which personality suits you best, which adds the number of the audience (person who likes A-type girl will wath anime that have A-type girl, and the same goes with B-type girl so why don't we put A-Z type of girl alltogether to make then all watch the anime?) But seriously anime isn't the best medium to deploy harems, Visual Novel is, because in VN you can have a branching route so there won't be any butthurt fans in which their favorite girl won't end up with the protag. Imagine if Onodera wins in Nisekoi, Chitoge fans wil raged alot and vice-versa (that's why the manga still publishing). |

While I wouldn't say I am a harem fan per se, the harems that I like is because the females have attractive designs and interesting personalities, also since there is usually variety within the cast I can find at least one character I like most of the time. And as long as the protagonist isn't being annoying to watch, it's fun to watch a lucky bastard getting to have fun with cute girls. |

There can definitely be an appeal to a harem show besides sex appeal. I'm a straight male but one of my favorite shows is a reverse harem. Ouran High School Host Club. there is certainly no sex appeal for me to enjoy their its just a bunch of dudes. but instead I enjoyed it for its great comedy and lovable characters. Also Shipping is probably the biggest appeal to harem shows. everyone gets to choose their best girl and root for them and just enjoy seeing their character of choice interact in the world. |

Most of the time - harem male leads, are usually wimpy, dense, gynophobic pussies....( that is annoying af ) Most of the time - harem female leads are just (dumb!?!?) weird, akward, stupid( usually IQ below 70 ), ugly, lolis, likes to eat as Luffy from One Piece...and doesn't care about anything else... Seriously, now I think that I can understand Harem haters/dislikers....at first when I started to get into anime, I loved harems...but now 90% of all harems sucks (this comes from ecchi lover btw) |

>Can someone explain the appeal of harem anime? Sorakaa , I'm not sure what kind of non-binary person you are, so I will talk about the kind of people who will find harem appealing: 1) They are attracted mostly or entirely to one gender. According to the rumors, that's the majority of humanity, but you can never be sure. 2) Their environment doesn't have much of that gender. There are many reasons for that: * some are hikkikomori, and their environment consists only of themselves. * some work or study in a profession that is dominated by the gender they don't prefer. For heterosexual people it happens naturally if they don't work in a job with even distribution of genders. * some are bad at dealing with other people to the point they're alone even in a room full of people. * of course, only attractive people of the preferred gender matter - working with a whole lot of old ladies doesn't make the desire for beautiful girls go away. When things are like that, harems are a good way to compensate. That said, no anime is purely harem - that's just one component of a show that can contain: sexual fanservice, romance, comedy. And other things that are not related to the show being a harem: action, adventure, heart-warming, philosophy... All of these things are worthwhile on their own. But harem-haters will sometimes forget that and complain about harem-ness. OneNaughtyBear said: D-ohnuts said: But what's the point if the MC isn't going to choose her. Going by what you said that seems like a great disappointment to that viewerOneNaughtyBear said: I don't see why anyone would like a harem where the MC chooses a girl in the last 1-2 episodes To give the viewers enough time to choose whichever girl appeals to their fetish. It doesn't really matter who is chosen by the MC. What matters is, who is chosen by the viewer? HecticLeo said: I do not like harem anime. Even though my list contains a vast amount of harem anime, I actually watch all of them for the ecchi tag. SO. WITH THAT BIT OF INFO, we can safely deduct that no one actually likes harem anime but people just want the ecchi. I've watched some harems which were not ecchi at all. Shiawase no Pan, for example. They still work fine. Meomix said: It's for men to fap at night, they have no appeal what so ever, only the authors who treat women more than sexual objects get it right. I am not sure if you are sarcastic, but 1) reverse harems exist too. I think it's the way it should be. 2) harems do have appeal outside being fap material. As a general rule, they make good romantic comedies. 3) I don't think it's fair to assume all harem authors treat women only as sexual objects. I'm not good enough in using these complicated feminist language to get good counter-examples. |

People watch them for the fan service and wish fulfillment. Sad thing is that every harem anime is the same with the tsundere or in some cases dry boring girl winning, Pathetic beta male MC with nothing interesting about him getting flocked by women, and the horrid story lines of such shows also. The difference between a bunch of women flocking James Bond and generic MC is that James Bond is badass and charming to women while MC is sought after for trivial reasons (or none at all). P.S. Many different and better options for you thirsty guys who love these harems to get your wish fulfillment from |

I don't remember ever seeing a harem/fanservice anime that shows panties on men who wear skirts. Which anime are you talking about? Anyway, I think it's one of the two: either they make a joke about pantyshots, or these "men" are actually reverse-traps (meaning they are really girls). Or, sometimes, shows go for equal-opportunity fanservice, and the men get to be fanservicey roughly as often as women. Reminds me of that episode in Dog Days where MC gets his clothes shredded by an attack. But these kinds of shows are unlikely to include men in skirts. |

Harems are haram It is wish fulfillment. But since other sexual fantasies are accepted in other media, like 50 Shades of Grey, I don't see what's bad about wish fulfillment by itself. The vast majority of harem shows bore me immensely, but when they have a funny twist to them, like Monster Musume, they can be very entertaining. |

Harems like every other genre/sub genre have good shows and bad shows. If you only concentrate on the bad ones, of course your opinions will be skewed. Try watching the good ones (which is subjective) and you'll probably get why people like them. Most harems are comedy/SoL driven and people like that about them. The romance part too can be fun. I can just feel the hate flowing through this thread. I like it. |
