I find that in person, with strangers, co workers, friends....everyone in real life is more positive, and just more accepting of others beliefs, religion, opinion etc etc

But it feels like on MAL, every other post is something negative, some one trying to force their opinion down some one else's throat, or making a joke that could be offending to some one else, or just criticizing something and just not being very considerate of others feelings. I understand we're all anonymously posting, but is that what humanity is like on the inside? Just negative? Not loving creatures?

anonymity = no consequences

Real life people just conceal what they really want to say with 100% honesty, you're less exposed to opinions/discussions and different beliefs.

You aren't looking hard enough.

Debate occurs on most of the subforums, while lighthearted conversations occur in chat/spam threads or on profile comments.

Also, so long as you have a handle you are not anonymous. So long as someone can recognize you a reputation and an identity can be founded.

Well in Sims 4 there isn't even an option for "trolling teh forums".
That is why I like the club environment more.
They tend to be more friendlier there, but as for negativity...I mean we aren't going out and clubbing every weekend.
A lot of us are posting 100+ times a week on MAL. Some of us aren't the happiest people regardless.

I think it's more so there is no tone in what is being said in the words. You read the things typed in a certain way. And it could be completely different from the other person's end. But they can't convey it through how they say like you can irl.

Like I can call you a nerd. You might take offense. But to me it was a light-hearted joke. But irl I could convey that joke with laughter or a smile. But in text I can't.

Yeah that's also true, most of them probably make a fake personality only online because it would damage their reputation in real life? If you want to pretend to be something you aren't then it seems to be more honest (not totally, just more) with yourself only, if you actually do it, instead of just hiding that wish, imo. Maybe the word I'm looking for is not honesty... not sure.

Then again, that could be a way to vent off and make an excuse to be your typical unfriendly and unwelcoming internet user.

Because life sucks and we take on out on random people over the internet, cause you don't have to deal with them IRL

"The individual has always had to struggle to keep from being overwhelmed by the tribe. If you try it, you will be lonely often, and sometimes frightened. But no price is too high to pay for the privilege of owning yourself."

I don't believe this to be true, people are just meaner on the internet because they aren't exposed to mirror neurons or consequences. When telling someone (to go back to the rape example) that rape mostly effects men and effects less than 1% of women, (comparatively 3x as much) if you can see their demeanor slowly crumbling and simultaneously understand the consequences you are prepared to face you probably won't share your facts.

Anonymity and the lack of filtering lead to the exposure to views that are not common place that can be translated as mean when you look at them from the perspective of what is commonplace.

because when you try really hard to be so optistimistc irl that sunshine practically shoots out of your ass, you burn out and you take it out online.

also tone may have something to do with it. irl we may subtly disagree with a warm tone. however, online when it's only put into words, everything feels far less sugarcoated.

gonna be negative tho, imo most humans are selfish assholes who have impulsive kind moments or feel obligations to be "nice".

Humanity is a cesspool. Whether it's online or offline, you still end up meeting people who take a shit on your opinions then shove theirs down your throat or stomp all over you just because they can.

I believe the internet shows the real person, but in work life, they tend to hide their true self so not to have any consequences in their career and survival.

It is only a matter of time, where everyone negativity burst out

I still finding the reason of such negativity, maybe probably the world is too densely populated, the economy is not growing good, people backstab each other in order to gain promotion, cheating others for more money, in the end our lives is on our hands, not others.

It is a matter of selfishness, one begin to become selfish once they have indulge themselves in a life that is having too much of comfort, hence they want to continue having better comfort life. Too much dosage in self loving, self praising, self worth that tend to make them taking granted for the existence of others.

Because they can.

You can have any opinion online, you can hate on anybody, you can let your true feelings out - without it affecting your real life - I think that's why people are so attracted to hatred behind the screen.

There is no tone in what we type online, that's one of the main reasons why sarcasm is difficult to understand on forums and social media. It's all on how you perceive the message. And also, because they can? Some people are just negative at heart, so to them, they're just being who they are. While others are having a bad day/have anger to vent out so they do so online. It isn't difficult to understand.

You can be a dick online with little to absolutely no consequences, so people take that chance to vent their frustration.
I've seen a lot of passive and kind people too, though.
You just notice the negative people more because they make themselves more noticeable.

The fact you responded makes your post ironic on so many levels.

You are trying way too hard to be that one guy.

Honestly, you don't fit the character buddy.

Because their pathetic behaviour usually is self-serving which draws a sense of satisfaction in themselves. They can't really do it in real life, because you know what'll happen if they do. Amassing all of their negative energy, they spew out whatever comes out of their minds on these threads.
