I would've applied, but since they enforce "American" English I guess there's no point for me. Shame.

Grats on the milestone though.

English is an English language.
It is, actually. After writing and typing for the last 18 or so years, it's merely second nature to spell things as we spell them. A lot of the differences aren't as obviously noticeable - the omission of U after O in words such as favour I'm aware of, but they aren't all as plain as that. Due to that, I wouldn't even realise I was making the 'mistake' a lot of the time.

I have a feeling this question was asked but I just want more clarification.

If you get "hired" do you get to chose between being an Editor/Writer? Or do you get assigned to one?

Hi @Sakamoto-! You get "hired" as a writer or an editor depending on your application. If you applied to be a writer and if you get selected, you become a writer. If you applied for editor, and we liked your editing, you become an editor. If we liked your writing, but not your edits, you will be offered a writer position. You will not be "assigned" arbitrarily.

And if you sign on as an editor, you'll not be expected to contribute to writing synopses (though you could if you wanted to). You're asked to show strong writing skills as a part of the editing application because every editor needs to show that they can a) create good content, b) make mediocre content better with their writing, and c) recognize good content when they see it.

Could I solely be rejected because I wrote mine in British English? I'm pretty sure I didn't write anything different from the two languages anyway... Though, I'm not too sure.

Well you guys do spell Organization as Organisation and Catalog as Catalogue or something, so its possible. I actually like British English more and the differences are slight, I think you'll be fine or I'd sue for discrimination.

I don't want to pressure you guys or anything as you may still need more time to discuss and confer with each other about the applications, but it's been 5 days and I'm wondering exactly when can we expect the results to be out?

I'm actually lost on the editor's application. Is it okay if we change that "summary" into a less spoiler-y synopsis, or do we have to keep it as a summary?

We're okay with either approach. As long as all the grammar, spelling, punctuation, tense, and other errors are weeded out, we don't mind.

That one's not an MAL Rewrite synopsis. Besides you can't make an informative synopsis of a sequel without spoiling the prequel.

A sequel/prequel synopsis has to be inherently vague. They are some of the more difficult synopses to write because of all the additional artificial constraints placed on writers.

Chill and forget about it for a bit, it's not like you can't do other things whilst waiting for this.

Everyone's doing this voluntarily, so please keep in mind the club admins sorting through the applications also have jobs and schools and lives to attend to. You'll definitely get a PM even if you are disqualified so don't worry about being left hanging forever.

I wouldn't have said this if I hadn't seen the newsletter having list of qualified members or even the increase in no. of members(also the fact that we submitted it the earliest). Well whatever then, fine.

I agree. Creating a synopsis for a sequel without spoiling the season before may be difficult, yeah, but definitely not impossible.

I have a quick question about editing. So, a writer just goes onto whatever anime or manga page they feel like going onto and writes a new synopsis? How exactly do editors know which synopses are in need of editing?

You write a synopsis on your own in the Writer's Application but you edit a synopsis that is given to you in the Editor's Application.

No, I meant in the event that one should become an editor or writer. I'm curious about how one would go about accomplishing such a task.

But wouldn't it be so much more interesting if writers just wrote on MAL and editors would have to go one massive easter egg hunts to find synopses to edit. I motion to make this the new system!

What about characters’ descriptions, Kineta? It is also one of the biggest problems of that website. Almost every piece of information from Wikipedia doesn’t make sense; they don’t know the difference between “heroine” and “heroin.” And it is not the only example.

Is there a possibility that MAL Rewrite will take care of it as well?
The goal of the club is to rewrite descriptions of all the databases, including the Character Database. However, right now, we lack the manpower to handle such a workload. If more people join, we will consider starting with characters. For now, users may submit direct character edits for a Database Moderator to handle.

Oh, so I might do some character edits since that seems easier. :D Congrats to all the writers, 100 is a great milestone.

Not necessarily. We do not expect you to have watched a lot of anime previously or have 10,000 posts. We only look at your mastery of the English language and the concepts of synopsis writing. Once you join Rewrite, we do expect you to be reasonably active--complete within 1 week whatever you claim, can't be idle more than 2 weeks, stuff like that. If you need to take a break, you could easily talk to one of us and we'd understand, like @Nashetania said.
