you know i have never read poetry or whatever the fuck that's called my whole life but that sounds marvelous

Also just finished Denpa Onna in like one day. Well not really, since I watched one episode a day before.
It was good. The legs are real, man.

Hell yeah bruh. It was some really great shit. I finished it in roughly one day as well.

Really good stuff. Had a lot of great moments especially in terms of directing. Based Shinbou.

Welp, guess next on the SHAFT list is Sasami-san. Or maybe Arakawa first, iuno

Arakawa is better than Sasami and more consistent. The later kinda falls apart as it goes on despite having a great funny start. Arakawa is just hilarious all around.

It's his best direction (visually at least) after the Monogatari series imo.

Plebs don't know about this and SZS and call his style repetitive ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Thinking about it, so far (not counting the atrociousness of Mekakushitty but I guess that counts too), SHAFT is the only studio where all OPs and EDs (so far) actually make sense within the context of the story.

These shaft shows should have sequels, SHAFT should make make less Nisekoi and more everything else

I'll quote my thoughts on Denpa Onna if tsud or Azure is interested in reading. Do note that this when I finished it so I was really excited about and over-exaggerated like I always do. I don't really think my opinion changed much, though.

Sasami-san is just plain weird, wasn't as enjoyable as I hoped it would be, it just lacked something to piece it all together, nice action here and there but meh, felt empty.
Arakawa is alright, characters can be really annoying at times but overall it's good.

my SHAFT watching list is then probs going to be
Sasami > Arakawa > SZS > Ef > NieA and then when I feel connected to the japanese culturex100 Pani Poni Dash

Also Madoka Rebellion is still the best visual and art direction wise, but then again it's a movie so lmao cheating
Yeah, the protag somehow reminds me of something like an Araragi x Watashi(jintai) for some reason. He's good enough.

All of the JoJo OPs are made for the anime, like with OPM's.

I haven't seen Rebellion but I'd agree with Azure that PMMM is SHAFT's best work in terms of art direction and visual design. Yea Monogatari has great visuals and especially the architecture/room porn but I feel like they're often disconnected with the scene or at least just loosely coupled.

Whereas in Madoka I feel like the usage of color, lighting, frame composition and so forth are integral to creating the atmosphere for the show, which is Madoka's strongest point.

I'm so happy samurai jack is back, and its gonna be on adult swim so they wont have to tone everything down for the modern cartoon network so it will probably be in line with the original series.

True. I love how in Madoka, each Witch's labyrinth has a different atmosphere and "feel" to it. It definitely shows that each witch has a story.

I loved the cuts and the lighting of Madoka. If you think that the series looks good, just get hype for the mobie

MC's VA is probably the most unfitting and out of place voice for a character that I have ever seen, going off the source, anyway.
But I have a gut feeling it might just work, who knows, narration doesn't really tell.

Why did they annoy you?

I don't think I can explain it better than it was ''too artsy fartsy''

I just didn't find it aesthetically pleasing. I've seen this style before elsewhere, and it's just a preference I have with doll like art, and the shape of the backgrounds. And the general theme of witches in the art.

Feaor said that he felt the characters were sometimes disconnected from the background in Monogatari, but that exactly what I felt at the cake scene in the movie. In Bakemonogatari and other Monogatari installments the background is a lot more active and alive, and more so than just being aesthetically pleasing for me, they make sense in the context of what the scene is trying to convey.

For example:
- Whenever there are two named characters talking, the rest of the background characters are filled with blanks or question marks as they are not important and are background (I noticed that more shows are starting to copy this [Sakura Trick]

- When Karen fights with Araragi. The scene is insanely exaggerated along with it's background where Araragi gets thrown around the city but in reality that wasn't the actual scale of the fight but the background was used to emphasis how the two characters intensified the fight in their mind.

I find it hard to articulate why but Madoka's background and visual direction makes me numbed and bored, while I find Monogatari's to be refreshing and worth paying attention to (part of the reason why I never find the conversations in the series to be boring is because of the direction), in simpler words I find Monogatari's to has more variety, colors and express more moods and emotions, while it's usually melancholic in Madoka which is due to the story, I suppose.

Well I can understand that, it is a pretty radical artstyle in comparison to your usual anime art after all. I think the doll-like "handcrafted" art contrasts very well with the cutesy-moe art of the series in the beginning, giving it a rather creepy twist.

It's exactly the lifelessness of a doll that describes very well the effect the witches' artstyle has on you. They are something that should not be alive, yet is. You say the art in Madoka is not alive, which I agree with. However, I think that exactly is the whole point and draw of it

yeah it's a preference.
Though I don't really think it had the intended effect on me, and it's just me being bored with it. Feaor said that it's supports atmosphere but if I were asked to praise Madoka I would never ever mention the word ''atmosphere''. I never felt it.

Films and game trailers especially do this all the time as the very first glimpse don't they? It's called baiting the viewer into generating hype. You don't want to bleed all your information right away, the best way of generating hype is by slowly dribbling it out
