| I noticed that MOST anime fans consider female characters without bangs/fringe as either plain or unattractive, even certain anime characters with their forehead showing are generally made fun of in the anime they are in examples are Sakura, Dekomori, Yue, Miyako, Himari, and many others. Aside from that many characters who do not have bangs/fringe are usually background or irrelevant characters but of course there are always exceptions but 90% of the time this is always the case. This is also not exclusive to females as well, I remember a guy in Chuunibyou was made fun of for having a crew cut back then he used to consider himself as cool when he had a layered hairstyle. So does this have something to do with Japanese/Asian beauty standards? Or is it something else? |
| Having a fringe just makes them more moe. But there are several characters without one. Usually if they're made fun of it's because of their personality, not because of their hairstyle. |

Older women sometimes have no bangs like Koucho in Saiunkoku Monogatari: and Aoi in Moyashimon (on the right obviously):  Even the men often have bangs like Satou in NHK ni Youkoso!. |

| Face is very important in Japan and some other countries. Japaneses love certain bangs and certain hairsyles because it allows them to give the impression of having an ideal face/head. "Western" countries don't have the ideal of a perfect face based on its form (square, diamond, oval, triangle, reversed triangle...). |
