By now, it's clear that ufotable's pouring all their budgetattention on: -butts (Saber is an exception) -some fight scenes -food Based ufotable indeed. |

| I'm pleased with this episode. The pace was much better than I expected and they also covered more stuff than I'd predicted. The church scene was pretty good and I liked how mad Shinji was in it. I lost it when Shirou made Issei strip - it was a funny moment in the novel, but I don't recall laughing at it as much as I did today. Well done. Not that it matters too much, but they could have been more faithful to the novel in the scene Shirou runs into Rin at the end of the day. The place didn't look the same, but I guess that's not a big deal. But they definitely should have made Rin pull Shirou's towards her body just like in the novel, that is to say, his chest against her breasts, rather than his back. Now I'm not sure exactly how far they're going to take things in the next episode. But all in all, a great episode. Naked Issei/10. No homo. |

| Maybe it can't be helped. UBW is fairly slow in the beginning to middle, but hey, second cour. As described by someone I saw: "Fate - Smooth jog all the way through. Unlimited Blade Works - Starts off as a walk but breaks into a sprint. Heavens Feel - A fucking turtle that grows rocket boosters near the end." |

So, not quite a smooth jog. I would comment on DEEN's UBW if I hadn't slept through it, which in a way says all you need to know. |

The bickering between Saber and Archer didn't illustrate anything to us other than their ability to engage in pointless arguments. What were they trying to do, show us some of Saber's chivalrous nature and insight into Archer's personality? That's not what I saw at all. They just made up an excuse to have Shirou strip Issei. I can't see why else they'd do that other than fanservice. It's not like Shirou was really intending on checking for anything particular on Issei's body. Shinji crying to Kirei didn't serve much of a purpose. Shinji already lost his servant and basically surrendered. All Kirei could do was say some stupid things and make some random ass smirk. I can't see how it'd imply anything about Shinji's next steps. That dinner scene was also pointless. We didn't learn anything about Shirou. Were we supposed to realize that he wasn't naive with a hero complex for no reason and that he's starting to become aware of the challenges that his beliefs face? Rating: 1/5 |

The 2010 UBW movie by DEEN was a better adaptation. It focused on the only relevant aspect of anime, the action. They managed to masterfully cram the entire UBW into a two hour movie that was streamlined from all that fancy fluff that pretentious people expect such as world building, character development, and details. The result was a brilliant piece of art that I believe you'll love. |

It cut away all the sophomoric, juvenile angst-ridden "dialogue" that plagued the series so and in doing so created a truly superlative work of art that surpassed its source material in pretty much every way imaginable. So many swords stuck in the ground and Shirou didn't even use them. Why were those swords even there? |
