How do you store your anime? 1080p, 720p, 480p or stream?

We know that today, storage isn't nearly an issue as it was back then. Still, for people who watch a ton of anime, storing everything they come by can stack up.

I myself, usually keep things I only really like in 200~400 Mb per episode, in 720p with the usual video and sound codecs. I have also many movies so things must be careful balanced between my external drives. Some series I really like or that have a focus on artwork or great animation I go for the 1080p, but those are rare.

Older series that never got Blu-ray usually have a very good-looking remastered edition that looks pretty good and those are what I always aim for. As for streaming, I avoid it, I like to have the thing, be it physically or in hard-drive, streaming rarely goes smoothly.

720p if possible. 480p or lower if I can't find anything else. I'll stream it if I don't think I'll like the show that much, it's currently airing or I just can't find it elsewhere.

I don't usually download episodes, but when I do, they're either 720p or 1080p. 1080p for those episodes which I liked a lot.

I guess I'm one of the few people who still download 480p versions. I just prefer 480p since I don't watch in full screen mode and their size is smaller (150MB to 300MB) which is an advantage since I store most of the anime I downloaded.

But I do download 720p versions only if 480p version is not available at all.

I usually download 1080P but if I know the show isn't anything special visually, I just download 720P. I do stream if I don't feel like downloading though.

Whatever floats my boat at the time. Obviously hentai is downloaded though.

That said, Katanagatari in 1080p is a sight to behold.

edit: that choice of phrasing was coincidental

Wow that sucks. If I had a cap that low I wouldn't be wasting my bandwidth on MAL.

I store 720p

720p > ALL. 480p is shit and 1080p takes too long to download and large file size, no difference than 720p. I stream when I ain't got no time to download or cbf life.

Since the cabling in my area is shit I can't utilize the speed of the internet I have and the amount I have (250GB+ I think). I used to download anime as it came out subbed but I found myself impatient for it. I ended up finding a streaming website that uses HTML5 instead of flashplayer (Well still theres hte option), so I've been streaming my anime and only been downloading the ones I know I'll rewatch later. If I do, then I download 1080p.

mostly 720p coz their aint much difference when it comes to anime most of the time tbh BUT I get 1080p for shows that matter and have a CLEAR differnce like Cowboy Bebop, Monogatari Series, Beserk, Hyouka, Kara no Kyoukai, Katanagatari, Hellsing Ultimate, Shingeki No Kyojin, Future Boy Conan etc etc

Anime movies I always go 1080p unless I got no choice but to go 4 720p.

Dont stream much unless its an old ass anime during the early 2000 and before and I cant find decent torrents for em.

I diont the quality as much as I used to now tho since I got sum nice ass enhancements with FFDSHOW

I know a website that re-encodes 720p to much smaller sized 720p and 480p, and I usually download 480p from that website. The size is around 50MB to 100MB for 480p, but quality looks good

I stopped when I had about 1.5TB full of anime and my hard drives started crashing one after the other. Too bothersome to keep buying new ones, now I just delete 95% of the stuff I watch and also keep 8+ rated movies or 9+ rated series.
I probably regret this post by now.

I prefer streaming off of Crunchyroll/Funimation/whatever since downloading is a bit of a hassle. If I download stuff, it's because I either really like it or I couldn't find a stream for it, in which case it's 720p or 480p, whichever I can find.

I stream everything, and watch it all mostly on my phone. The only problems I may have are finding good streaming for some old anime, as they are out of date for some websites and have many problems with them sometimes, but other than the small portion of old anime that I watch, I really have no problems with streaming.

I stick to 480p-576p when possible, or sometimes 360p-400p if that's what's available in SD. 720p is the absolute ceiling, as I barely see any difference between 720p and somewhat lower resolutions, let alone 720p and 1080p. Actual file size limits are harder to stick to because all shows are different; it's more about whatever size provides good quality that minimizes artifacts, but without entering diminishing-returns/overkill territory. You don't need as much bitrate and filesize for a show like Yuru Yuri as you do for Madoka Magica.

I will get 720p Blu-Ray rips over lower-res TV-rips where no low-res disc rips are available if there's significant decensoring, added scenes, or fixed animation. Though stuff like Nisekoi where the Blu-Ray changes mostly make things worse make it easy to stick to 480p TV-rips.

Though the most reliable storage has always been retail discs -- I've had a few HDDs die, and maybe there's some rot/corruption in my burned DVD-Rs (although I haven't encountered it yet), but none of my retail DVDs has ever gone bad.

Veethorn said:

You would think so, yet we still see people whining about the space taken by English audio on dual-audio releases as if they're still burning CD-Rs and storing on 160 GB HDDs. Then they turn around and DL releases with 24-bit FLAC and DTS-MA TrueHD audio that waste far more space for placebo audio improvements.

A waste of stolen bandwidth, given that the first Mushi-shi series was produced in SD and the Blu-Rays are shoddy upscales.

I download in 720p if available. 1080p is only useful if you have a large television as your monitor, which I have and it doesn't impress me... I think 1080p anime is over the top and takes up too much space on a hard drive.
Streaming websites are only useful for downloading anything that doesn't have a torrent

Usually I do 1080p downloads unless I'm downloading more than 3 or so episodes, then its not worth it with my internet speed and I go with 720p download instead if I'm downloading a lot of episodes at the same time.

I never download 1080p whole series at a time, takes forever and file sizes are just flat out stupid big.

I have about 500 GB total on my inernal harddrive for my macbook pro, which is my main computer I use for watching anime. I have another really old computer with 250 GB total, but with about 80GB space on it. When my mac hard drive gets to 400 something GB, I then delete quite a few series and only keep the ones I really enjoyed on my computer.
