How often does everyone actually re-watch their favorite(s) anime? For me, I'm not really fond of doing it mainly because I don't get the same emotional attachment that I did the first time I watched it. The only anime I've been able to re-watch a few times is Darker Than Black. I'm not sure how others feel about the subject.

Every couple years I try to rewatch one of my favorites. I see the problem in everyone rewatching the shows they like, expecting their past memories and attachments to be completely rewritten and re-experienced, now that's obviously never going to happen. The mindset I go into while rewatching shows is not that of an emotional one, but of a concious thinker, I rewatch to further understand and possibly develop a liking for characters I had passed aside previously.

It depends on the anime. I'm rewatching Gintama right now which has a high rewatch value, so I can rewatch it about once every 6 months. While my favorite anime One Piece, I can only rewatch about once every year to two years. I'm often rewatching and quite often my favorite anime are the ones that have a high rewatch value.

I tend to view it objectively, while watching anything the second time around I look at how other characters interact. Some shows it is hard to do when you've seen it so many times.

There isn't really a good way to view an anime objectively, especially with rewatching. Past experiences and memories will always play a factor, since you're trying to "relive" those past positive memories again. Be it consciously or subconsciously, the tendency to compare past and present memories will always happen.

I guess I use the wrong word to describe what I'm trying to get at. After watching something the first time, I try to focus more on other things that I didn't notice the first time around. Rather than just re-watching it for just the point of re-watching something. Maybe, I'm just not the type to enjoy the second time around.

I'm in a peculiar position where I'm thinking of re-watching Aria.
But I am under the impression that if I re-watch it, it will take away from the original experience based purely on how good the show actually is. I can say the same for a couple of my other favourite series such as Porfy no Nagai Tabi, Honey and Clover, Texhnolyze, Haibane Renmei and Planetes (alongside a couple of others).
Rewatching them will just distort my original perspective on them as they've stayed close to my heart ever since I've watched them.

But yeah, I try to rewatch two or three of my favourite series at least once a year.

It tends to take 1-2 years before I'm able to watch re-watch something again. It's always taken away from the original experience I had sadly.

Ah like it. While it certainly is a good thing to start looking for interactions between characters and details you didnt notice before, dont try to start to overanalyze any new clues you might discover. 'Cause if that would happen, you might start to question those past pleasant experiences and go way too in-depth into how those "newer" discoveries impacted the storyline or character development of that given anime. In the end, you might end up getting with more warped and confusing memories after the rewatch. The first time you watch an anime you remember the story and characters the best . So there's no need to suddenly adjust your views on *given storyline and characters* after a re-watch.

Your statement about objectivity being factually non-existent as subjective is entirely subjective.

OT: I have rewatched some of my favorite anime, maybe not the entire thing but certain episodes at least twice (this is particularly true for Gintama, Hajime no Ippo and Gurren Lagann). I'm also planning on rewatching Baccano soon.

I always rewatch any anime I've rated 8 or above at least once, as I usually enjoy a 2nd, 3rd or 4th watch almost as much as the first time.
5 main aspects I base my ratings on:
1. Did DramaEnthusiast make a thread about it?
2. Is it better than Breaking Bad?
3. Did MellowJello recommend the shit out of it?
4. Has it caused a (very entertaining) shitstorm on MAL?
5. Is it actually good?

Scratch the fifth point, it's not very relevant...

I just tend to be nitpicky when it comes to rating things. The 10/10's I give will probably be the only ones I give that rating. I look for a lot of detail usually.

I only rewatch my favourite anime once, but only if it has both a dub and sub though. If I watched it dubbed the first time around, I'd check it out in subbed the second time around. I usually rewatch an anime 6 months after finishing it the first time around.

I'm currently rewatching Bakuman, where subbed might as well be the only way to watch it (because only the first few episodes were ever dubbed in English), and after rewatching it, I might never watch it again. The only reason I'm rewatching the show is because I found out that several chapters from the manga were skipped in the anime, so I'm going to get to that point in the anime, then read the missing chapters, then continue watching the anime.

like a lot of other people said, I like to wait about 2 years. Usually in that amount of time I forget a lot of the details of the show so I can actually enjoy watching it again. I don't know if I'd be able to rewatch a show while remembering all the little details.

I can agree with not getting the same emotional effect. I think I tried rewatching Welcome to the NHK a bit too soon and it just wasn't the same. Anime with big feels near the end are probably the hardest for me to rewatch because those moments are so good and they won't have the same impact as the first time which can be disappointing.

I usually wait a period of time before i re-watch my favorites. It helps me forget about a few things about the anime and when I re-watch I get the same feeling I had during my first watch through.

I may also re-watch if I introduce one of them to a friend. Just recently, a few friends and I marathoned Madoka Magica and watched the 3rd movie. They've never heard of the anime and I was surprised when they said it was frickin awesome considering the fact that a lot of people don't give it a shot because of first impressions.

When I was younger and hadn't experienced many series it could be as frequent as every month, at least certain episodes of the series. Now unless it's something like to hear a dub for the first time or a recent purchase I usually don't rewatch something for months if not years. I find the wait helps me forget enough of it to come close to the level of enjoyment I had back then. In some instances I can even pick up on things I missed, but that's true of everyone I'd assume.

In the same way that I'd rewatch anything I own, which is "whenever I feel like it". Though, most rewatches are brought on by me buying the DVD/BD release after having watched it streaming 6 months to a year ago. Either that or I was bored and randomly choose something from my shelves of anime.

This. I don't frequently rewatch an entire show from start to finish with no skipping but I do rewatch episodes or arcs of my favorite shows or anything that just pops up into my head at the time. This happens a lot. Just whenever the mood strikes or a certain show that I'm watching reminds me of a past favorite. However, I'll definitely skip around parts that are a bit boring and get to my favorite scenes.
