| Hey guys, JD here During my time on MAL I have noticed two things regarding shounen series 1) Anyone who dislikes One Piece yet likes Naruto and Bleach is regarded as a troll by many users 2) A lot of the 'elitists' on MAL are fans of One Piece yet seem very negative towards other shounen series I don't want this to turn into a 'which is the best shounen' thread . I would like to discuss where the other shounen series apparently went wrong, and why One Piece is so well received in comparison. Mod Edit: Add spoiler warning to the tittle. This thread contains spoilers of many battle shounen series: One Piece, Naruto, Fairy Tail, etc. Make sure you are fine with that before proceeding. |

| I actually like all of the big three, but One Piece is my favorite. In terms of battle scenes I actually prefer Naruto over both One Piece and Bleach and I like Bleach's art the best. But One Piece is just such an organized manga...the crew has a clear goal and each Island always provides the viewer with a new set of characters and a completely different world. Characters from the beginning come back in random parts of the manga and you feel like everything ties together nicely. I don't think that Naruto 'went wrong,' I'm not really sure why people hate it so much. Since I read the manga I did not have to deal with filler, so that could be a reason. I guess the supporting characters were pretty forgettable and Sasuke and Sakura were really annoying. With Bleach, it got really repetitive and all the chapters were really short and unsatisfying (this was back when I would read it weekly). They would literally have one page and all has is Ichigos hand on his sword, or Ichigo saying something. Every week I would feel like nothing happened. The power-ups in Bleach were also a big turn off, as it was really hard to understand how the characters became so strong so quickly. |

| 1) I thought that, say, tsudecimo, hated One Piece and praised Naruto. He isn't regarded as a troll. We just agree that he's got a terrible taste and that's all :P 2) Unconventional arstyle or relatively worse reception in the West compared with other shounen entries, these are the elitist reasons I can think of. Normal people like the show for its qualities though. |

| Because One Piece is the only one of those that isn't full on asspulls, dei ex machinas, inconsistencies, discarded plot points, illogical points and other signs of shit writing. And it exceeds on the worldbuilding and multi-layered plot. |

| I don't know. I can't name a single genuinely good thing about it. It's not called the best shounen here anyway. FMA:B, HxH and Gintama get more praise than it and are ranked higher. I don't really care about OP good reception here, it doesn't really mean anything to me. What upsets me is something else... |

Though there's still half the story, the climax, ending, etc for the anime to end so people's scores will most likely rise and there are people who don't rate ongoing anime. | I'm pretty new here but i see how the 1/5 rule works for short term anime but 600 episodes in shouldn't everyone that watch one piece already have it rated. How will its score change that much when it ends? |

I think Oda just made a bad estimation, and didn't think the pacing of his story was that slow. |
