I understand that some people didn't like this and saw many plot holes on this movie but I was so enchanted with it the first time I saw it and man it was the same feeling, although not being suprised by the events was a bit lessening for the experience but man it was still the same impression I got. And no I havent watched the live action, read the manga or the novel yet as I posted this.
anyway I had trouble understanding somethings at first, so I watched it second time and came up with theories as to my own questions. so SPOILERS before I start... there.
1. What does Chiaki want with that painting?
-I have no effin clue as well. But I think it was best that they left it unknown because it would sidetrack to the main message the movie wants to convey.
2. So what does the movie wants to convey
-I think I have to go through the other questions before I can answer this completely.
3. Why did Chiaki showed up in the science lab to Makoto for the first like 5 mins of the movie?
I have two seperate guess about this one.
First: Makoto died and Chiaki time leapt on to when Makoto is still alive, and ended up inside the science lab. Now it wouldn't make sense because Chiaki still had his last time leap on the end right? WRONG. It was never said that the first time we see his shilloutte at the lab that he used all his time travel up by that time. And we must also remember that he could have lost his device at the science lab as he time traveled to cheat Makoto's death. He technically still had a lot of time travel if he had not lost it and Makoto didn't use much of that charges from the device.
Second: And I think this is the more romantic but tragic one. Remember Chiaki saying "I'll wait for you" before leaving? Well he might have came back to his own time and came back again to that time to write those words "Time waits for no one".
4. Then what the hell does "Time waits for no one" mean anyway?
-I think that was Chiaki's eating his own words. He could not wait for Makoto because it's logically impossible, therefore that's him saying to Makoto that he waited but eventually Makoto could'nt make it because Makoto is naturally dead by the time Chiaki is born, in a sense "Time can't wait for Chiaki to be born for Makoto to see". That's like his parting message telling Makoto that "It was a nice try for us but we should just move on to our lives."
5. So Who's Aunt Witch?
- Many would suggest it's Makoto herself but I can't agree with that. The movies pans to her picture with a fat guy and a black haired guy and her looks are definitely not like Makoto's and she would'nt be called Aunt if Aunt Witch isn't a sister of on of Makoto's parents so that's too much of a no to me. Maybe Aunt Witch just went through the same circumstance as Makoto who made a promise with someone, doesn't really need to be a time traveller. (Tho i heard the manga's main character is her? for real? then that makes sense to me why she knows a lot of things about time travelling and stuff).
6. Did Chiaki really saw the painting?
-It wasn't addressed if he saw it before he left but it's safe to say yes but I would say NO. I think he waited for it on his own time, fullfiling Makoto's promise of preserving it and Chiaki's promise to wait for her. But if that's the case then in a sense he still saw it.
7. How did Chiaki know that she was time leaping?
-This was a tricky one (not so tricky I guess, im just so stupid not to figure out things the first time I watched). Ok so first of, it's either the time travels count by 10 (so one use of time travel is 10, so 100 is equals to 10 time travel and so on) or that the counter is written BACKWARDS, so 10 is actually 01. Both makes sense so anyway...
So let's go to the first time travel which Chikai going back to write "Time waits for no one". Chiaki -1 travel. This counts if I take the first theory in my first question.
So let's go to Makoto's first time travel. She actually died and but Chiaki saved her the first time we follow my first theory tho the second time she was already able to save herself because Chiaki lost his device at the science lab as he went time leaping to cheat Makoto's death. Makoto -1
Makoto wasted so much of her time travel. Makoto -??? (It's fun to time travel I guess...)
But one of Makoto's time travel was INSIDE THE SCIENCE LAB. which is vital because she actually went back to when CHIAKI time leapt to save the MAKOTO who wwasn't able to time leap so MAKOTO SHOULD BE ON THAT VERY SAME SPOT BUT MAKOTO DISAPPEARED AND BECAUSE MAKOTO HERSELF TRAVELLED TO THIS TIME (We are shown that somehow Makoto shows up out of nowhere and disappears from where they originally are on that timeline when time leaping) but seing that MAKOTO wasn't there anymore and the device was GONE, that made CHIAKI aware that it is highly possible that MAKOTO is TIME LEAPING. And time leapers seems not to be affected by time pausing caused by time leaping... maybe the reason why CHIAKI can be certain that MAKOTO TIME LEAPT.
So what's the Message of the Movie?
-I dunno but for me it's telling me that dodging a problem will only get you another trouble. Even with time leaping, there are always something wrong that's gonna happen and you just have to deal with it instead of trying to backtrack, just leave the past behind and move on.
And friendzoning is fine, just don't be salty if the guy/girl finds someone who can love him/her back :p
I dunno just my thoughts about the movie. |
