Definitely going to miss all the curiosity. All in all, a pretty solid slice of life comedy. I don't know how it compares to the novels but it had a decent ending regardless of the "I'll be your other side" confession scene. Maybe there will be something in the future? ;)

I just finished the series....I really liked this series but it is the hardest one to review so I can't review this show because my views won't be balanced. I stick with the positives first. I LOVED the show for it's slice of life and this has what kept me going with it. I LOVED Oreki's character - the strong silent progatanist type always always appeals to me. This is another main reason what kept me watching this show. The characters and how they interact with each other was strong.

The only negatives was the mysteries.....they were not compelling enough and I was more focused on the characters themselves than the actual mysteries. Therefore I see the whole show as more of a slice of life but mixed in with some light mysteries. Another negative for me was they could have developed the romance between Oreki and Chitanda more (OK it's the romance side of me coming out now) and I know this was not romance show to start with but wow it would have made an awesome romance show because I love Oreki's character so much and to see him being in a romantic relationship would have been fantastic. There is something about him that makes him so appealing to me.

I had real difficulty scoring this show.....I would score it 9 for just being a slice of life...but 7 for being a mystery. A 10 for Oreki's character but 8 for the potential romance between him and Chitanda.

I'm looking for the BGM that is usually played when Oreki is explaining the solution of the"mysteries".
Anyway great show. 9/10 for me just becouse I've expected a bit more romantic ending, altough I knew it wasn't that kind of anime in the first place. A second season wold be nice, although If I know correctly there's not much left of the story. The anime used 4 volumes out of 5, so maybe a 12 ep long second season?

Darn actually hoping for a second series, usually when anime end, even with an open ending I'm fine with it to some extent, as with this anime however I feel like their really isn't a reason why their shouldn't be a second season. They were just starting to develop it into a romance too... Unless they want to avoid that from happening then I can completely understand why they wouldn't want a second season.

So it looks like Oreki really did end up falling for Chitanda with the way he blushes around her sometimes and that imagination. Lol damn it for a moment there I actually thought he went ahead and said it.

This was a really nice and peaceful ending with some cute scenes from Chitanda which I thought matched this anime perfectly. And what a great way it was to end the ep with Chitanda's smiling face as cherry blossoms flew around her.

Loved the characters, animation, and mood in this anime. Crossing my fingers for a season 2.

Pretty crappy ending but I really enjoyed the series, it got better during the festival arc. The characters were all fantastic and oreki was a great lead. Chitanda was moe as fuck. And of the course the art was beautiful as expected. I have no doubt there will be a second season, just wondering how long it will take for it to come out. ;_;

I'm always on the look out for news on a second series. I really want to see a second series for this show even if they didn't put on too much romance (would love it if they did) but that's probably not how the LN was like so I can't expect too much. I just love the MC Oreki....I love unique characters.

I want to take Oreki and put him into a romance anime where he has to go through lots of character development and build a lot of depth into his personality. He's one of my top favorite characters.

Then was fine, even though it didn't really fit Oreki. I wished they just stopped at the beginning of "his dream" and then in the next episode you see that nothing happened and it was just a dream.
+ I didn't like the fact, that he wanted to go in the social branche and not going for the science path, math etc. should be a lot better for him than those subjects with a lot of talking and no need for thinking.
Chitanda was either fine, because she is a really good student, in fact I like it better too, that she chose Science, because then she and Oreki are closer to each other and in fact she has a creative mind similiar to Oreki, so it wouldn't be too bad, if she really chose Science...

Kind of a lame ending, it seemed like a regular episode. I wish Oreki actually said what he thought.
Both relationships left open... :/ I expected more for a closure.

The anime itself was pretty good, but the second half was somewhat less interesting (the festival was a better part though).
On the mystery part, well, some of them were pretty good (again, mainly the first half), but some of them were either boring or not that intriguing. I'm actually not the mystery/detective story guy, but overall they were really fun and interesting to watch.
I also really liked the way they animated the thought processes and the deductions, they were amazing :)
The best aspect of the anime had to be its characters, their interactions kept me interested throughout the anime. Especially Oreki. He is awesome, it was really interesting and fun to watch him. I'm thinking about putting him on my favorite list :)
Both Mayaka and Satoshi are my second favorites, they are also great characters.
Last one is unfortunately Chitanda. While she was cute and funny I also often found myself annoyed by her attitude. She is not a bad character though :)
I'm really sad that neither of the relationships actually happened, though they were left open, so I have my hopes.

My final score is an 8/10. There were some bad things/mistakes here and there, but this was a really enjoyable anime with wonderful characters and animation (KyoAni is awesome!). It could have been much better though. I might rewatch it in the future.

Pretty good anime, but the last episodes were a bit lame and felt almost like fillers. I really liked the bigger arcs tho, and they felt very clever. Very nice visuals too!

I think that the character development was a bit lacking. The love stuff in the end of the series was very forced, and there was no build-up for that. And I felt very sorry for my favorite character Mayaka at multiple times throughout the series. Did we ever get to see her laugh? All I can remember is her sad face. It also felt very weird in the end when she was going to purchase Satoshi's love with chocolate. It was very sweet by her (if we ignore that this love plot came from nowhere), but I can't for my life understand how Satoshi could be so mean to her. Maybe it's a cultural thing to treat women more or less as shit.

I feel a bit mixed about this anime. But Kyoto Animation is probably my favorite studio, and I love many of their previous works (such as K-On, Clannad, Haruhi, Lucky Star and Kanon). So I'm looking forward to see what they will deliver in the future.

I actually liked the last episode a lot. I enjoyed the fact that not everyone just got together as couples and all kissy etc. The ending was a little bit of a tease when it went back to reality though x) I definitely enjoyed watching this anime. The character development was just right for me and I enjoyed the longer arcs, especially the festival arc.

Well this was boring. There was nothing technically wrong with the show but everything was made to feel so inconsequential it was hard to really care. I don't understand why they couldn't have made the mysteries more interesting and I definitely also think they could have had a much better conclusion if spent more time developing the relationships and less on the gags. Felt like a dull slice of life pretending to be mystery. At least the animation was top notch.

I kinda agree with you here, the Kanya festival arc and episodes 20-21 were the episodes that stood out in this show because they focused mainly on development the rest just had on gags and "mysteries" (some of which were enjoyable). As for episode 22, it actually would have been better to have this episode earlier on, shoving all of this info about Chitanda at the last minute felt kinda strange.

What I liked was how Oreki changed from when the series began to when it ended I guess that is tanks to his interactions with Chitanda and his time with the club.

The problem with this series is that it excels in none of the genres. It's neither a full blown mystery nor is it a slice of life anime.
I still think it's pretty decent with a couple of great episodes like the School Festival arc but some eps were quite boring to sit through when you could pretty much guess who the culprit was. All in all, a refreshing addition to KyoAni's repertoire. Next up, Chuunibyou!

I personally liked this series. Though I feel that the second half (ep. 11-22) was pretty lackluster compared to the first, was pretty boring imo. Still, a great work by KyoAni with impressive OP/ED as expected. Onto Chuunibyou.

A nice ending. Wish there was more. Finishing on 22nd episode is a bit strange to say the least..

Overall an 8/10 because I thought it needed more longer arcs. The Kanya Festival and the movie arcs were great because there was a lot of clever build up, but there were too many episodes where the mystery was introduced and solved in just one episode.

great show with wonderful interactions between characters and great arcs, the ending the way i see it the whole caracter of chitanda is actually a representation of the purple aspects of life and the show is actually anout oreki accepting this aspects(ie chitanda ) if you look at it this way it actually is the perfect ending to the show

i found this anime ok but by the end it was allways the same character devlopment was slow to none existent the relationship between eru and oreki never happened if had said wat he saw in his day dream that he wld run the business for him tht wld have worked rather than wat he actually said was that its getting cold let down i hate when anime rommance never actually happens but is insinuated threw out however i liked some of the misteries when there was one but they where few and far between with a serious set up like a mystery of the week there where only 4 or so in 22 episodes and the main plot mystery only lasted till episode 5 and had no depth to it.
regardless of all the flaws which should mean this show shld be average around a 5 because of its moments of intreque and brilliance which redeem it somewhat ill give it a 7/10 and thts being very generous. if there was another season and it devloped a proper story and the relationships where there then i wld up my score

They teased the romantic relationship till the end. Even with the fake out of Houtarou implying his love for Eru. That's going too far, it annoyed me.
But, damn, did this anime have the most beautiful artstyle ever. Surpassing both Chuunibyou and Tamako Market that came after.

The artstyle/animation alone gets a 10 out of 10.

There were too many instances where I was bored/annoyed for this series to get anything abovet a 7.5/10 from me.

I'm not going to lie. I like the cases and solving them through the eps but I mainly watched this series for relationship development mainly romance. And seeing the last ep everything was amazing but Oreki and Eru. In ep 21 with the valentine going on you think she'd confessed but nah lets wait til last ep. I waited. I didn't get what i wanted so i was torn. Its a great anime but really beats around the bush when it comes to romance. GOtta be straight forward. Like Toradora, Shakugan No Shana, Zero NO Tsukaima. Overall, Im pleased with the anime, but really dissapointed between the Romance ... What does the 5th Volume of the light novel bring to closes the series overall? Volume 5 - The Approximation of the Distance of Two the title and the sub titles..

They make me so dang curious!

anways Hoping for some closure to ease my heart right now because im really up set and I usually am Happy with anime endings but this... bleh.. makes me really depressed and I shouldn't be so engrossed in this. >.<

I felt off with the ending, it felt so incomplete. But I had suspected that it would end this way about halfway through the show.

But then it occurred to me, the refrain of the show was Eru's, "I'm curious!", and I think that's exactly how the ending leaves the watcher. It didn't leave anything resolved, I don't think anyway, it just left me curious for the future of the characters which is left to our own interpretation.

Great show, the mystery elements were fantastic, and the Classic Club was always a joy to watch. Ten out of ten for me.

Really liked the pacing and especially the characters of the show. But am I missing something? Like an actual significant plot? It's like there is no reason for the show to be shown. Nothing they want to show us.

Don't get me wrong, I do think of this series as a bad one. But given my previous observation, I would rate it "just" a 7 out of 10.

it's a classic masterpiece by the plot writer/novel writer but somehow the animator mis-interpret it as great anime. The chara development is awesome and the artwork is level with K-Project or Kimi ni Todoke(means awesome too). The opening and ending song(1 and 2) is also great. But the expectations of us can't match.Like when we're expecting romance development between those 4 main chara. But it ended too (-_-")<-WTF?
We expecting Ibara and Satoshi develop their feelings inbetween the romance of Oreki and Eru,but neither of those romance been long-telling.
the artwork seems 9/10 the OST 9/110 the character development 10/10 arc-climax-anticlimax(storyline) 10/10 romance 6/10 that's contain all of my concern *sniffing panties*
