You know, an anime with a really weak plot, cliched characters, asspulls, bad pacing, many things that can make an anime bad. Do you think that despite this though, you can still find a way to enjoy it for god knows what reason?

My example (don't kill me fanboys) would be with Sword Art Online. The pacing is atrocious, the current plot is cliche, and the added harem/useless (at the moment girls) is a real killer. Yet, I still find myself looking forward to each episode. Its a fun show to watch. It's got some decent action, decent (dont kill me haters) characters in a sense, and isn't that hard to understand.

Do you think its possible for a bad anime to be enjoyable? Any examples of an anime that its in this category?

For me it's Nurarihyon no mago, the characters and the plot piss me off but I still enjoy watching it.

In my own opinion, it is possible for an anime to be bad, enjoyable too. I can give an example with Black Rock Shooter (both OVA and TV series). Even though I think it is pretty bad, I still had enjoyable time with it.

Title question. Yes.

A simple way to look at it would be in a rating system based on enjoyment. There's the art/animation, the music, characters and the plot. You could totally hate the characters and the plot but love the art and music enough to keep watching. A good example of this would be Guilty Crown.

Another comes to mind. The writing is pretty weak, but the show itself is too damn entertaining, it had me on the edge of my seat the entire time.
Same with Arcana Famiglia and Uta no Prince-sama. Both are just really bad reverse harem shows with just shitty character development and motivation and horrible protagonists, but... They were too fun to watch for some unknown reason.

Queen's Blade, Yu-Gi-Oh and HOTD
This might be controversial for some reason, but Black Lagoon is also pretty bad. Still enjoyed it most of the time, I guess.

hmm, I think so. In my case was Neon Genesis Evangelion, I don't like any characters, the anime is messed up, and the excessive fanservice was shit. But I couldn't stop myself from watching it, I didn't get bored in any episode (ok, maybe two or three). Although I think the anime is average and overrated, I still look forward to watch the Rebuild series' end (which I think it is not that good either). [asking to not be hated by NGE fans]

Can an anime be bad, but still enjoyable?

Yes, so long as subjective enjoyment isn't the same thing as objective quality.

SAO is fun to make fun of. I laugh when I obviously shouldn't be laughing all the time. Maybe that's why I didn't drop it yet.

Are you having a hard time understanding the topic or do you mean that even though you found Bleach boring you still enjoyed it?

I wouldnt go as far to say EVERY anime, but mixing them all in at once could result in a bad anime, or if the cliche characters completely throws off their personality and what not. You can have cliche characters that arent terrible. I look at Madoka Magica and think this.

If you ask me hagure yuusha was incredibly horrible.

I enjoyed the first half though a lot, I had a grin going through each episode due to how stupid it was. Just looking at how they drew the characters, especially their feet/shoes, got me laughing.

I think you should rate an anime purely on how much you enjoyed it. If you don't then the answer to your question is yes since some of the things you rate it on might not matter to you that much.

The reason why I think such bad shows are bad is because they actually try to be serious, that's the biggest problem since as ridiculous the plot may be, the fact that the series still tries to be serious makes it annoying to watch, and not «laughable». I saw a three minute video about funny moments of Garzey's Wing and maybe it's only because of the dub, but I laughed in tears during those three minutes, the whole thing is probably as hilarious. It's some old ova with a plot that is pretty comparable to GC/SAO but the dub just kills any credibility about the show so it makes it enjoyable to watch.

Well, I've acknowledged how much of a wreck Origin: Spirits of the Past is as well as Kannazuki no Miko despite how much I enjoyed them. Of course, I acknowledge a show's shortcomings and therefore won't hesitate to call something bad if I don't enjoy it either.

Yeah, it depends on how compelled you are to see what will happen next, or attachment to something in the anime on whether or not you enjoy it.

A bad anime can be compelling.

I think we all have our fair share of "Junk Anime" that we like. Just like how we know that "Junk Food" is bad for us and contains no significant "Nutritional Value", we still love it occasionally on a daily basis. Sometimes we need a break from our quality shows.

Just like how people like watching those reality television shows such as Jersey Shore, Kardashians, etc.

I love Nakaimo, even though the anime is absolute garbage.

There's alot of anime considered crap, yet entertaining.

There is exceptions. This hentai romance for example is better than majority of romance series,

Of course it can.

It's just like Burger King.

Yes. I enjoyed the fuck out of Guilty Crown's stupidity but it was utter shit.

Also SAO. I laugh when they make forced melodrama and other stupid shit it pulls out of its 2 years of used glopping ass.
As a child, I was told that society is a melting pot of talents; knowledge and experience combined to form important alloys that will contribute to mankind. When I got to highschool, however, I thought that it's more like a river in which the water represents our peers while we ourselves are the stones in the river. Constant erosion by mindless majority sheeping has made us lose our unique edge. After I hit the age of 18, I realized that I've been wrong all along. Society is no melting pot. Society is no river. Society is a person, a very skilled rapist, and he has fucked us all.

I think one of the biggest cases of this would be Star Driver... It's pretty much a mecha parodying mahou shoujo but instead... Mahou Shounen? On top of that it's a harem, which some people don't like for whatever reason. Most, if not all of the characters are cliche, and the main protagonists title is "Ginga Bishounen" err... Galactic pretty boy. Despite this recipe for disaster, it still manages to be an awesome anime. Some other examples would be SAO, Arcana Famiglia, Guilty Crown, obviously in some peoples cases Mars of destruction, and so on...

Although I can vouch for Sword art being better plot, pacing, character, and just overall than twilight... Atleast the elves in SAO aren't covered in glitter and shit.
