IF they do make a 4th season hopefully its a continuation of the 3rd season, not a reboot and definitely not a recap. |

First things first, this is an ancient thread and people should avoid bumping them unless there is real news about the show, not just to make a comment or post a link to a signature campaign. (Do that in a separate thread, not labelled as news about the show!) Second, the real "new" news on this is actually about 9 months old. Back in late 2011, early 2012, Gotah-sensei posted a massive tease (http://www.crunchyroll.com/anime-news/2012/01/01/full-metal-panic-creator-teases-long-awaited-projects) on Twitter. In tweets about his plans for 2012, he mentioned that he was doing series composition for Hyouka (in case you wondered why that is so good!) and a few other things. But the real tease was when he talked about 2013: "Besides that, I also have plans for this and that in 2013 and beyond that I can't say anything about yet," noting specifically, "By the way, plans I can't talk about include a few things that have a 'long-awaited' feeling. It's all way down the road, though." Most of us FMP! fans took this as a veiled hint that the fourth season of FMP! may actually be on the way in 2013. Of course, since then they have announced that there is "something" that is coming up for FMP: Another, but that wouldn't qualify as having a "Long-awaited" feeling. When you combine the tweet that this thread is about with the one he made around New Years, it strongly suggests that progress has been made on the FMP! season 4 front! After all, he has not tweeted that the project is cancelled, has specifically stated that he cannot talk freely about it, then mentioned a project that he cannot talk freely about that has a "long awaited" feeling to it as in the works for 2013. These things mix together to form the impression that season 4, or something like it (movie, OVA, etc...) is coming, probably followed immediately by the first season of FMP!: Another At least that is what I am hoping... :) Sorry for re-bumping an ancient thread, but at least there is some hope! |

Jesus christ, man... MAKE SEASON 4 ALREADY! They've only just scrapped the tip of the iceber, there's TONS more story that can easily be translated to anime and produce a worthy follow up to TSR! Plus now in the days of High Definition the show would look better than it ever did |

Not LB!-level, but still pretty bad. I loved KyoAni's FMP adaptations but sometimes you just need to let go. If it happens, great. If not... Only FMP that sold all that well was Fumoffu (9k singles + 6.5k BD box is quite nice) while the others had ~4k sales and not much boxset luck either. Given how many years it's been, doing another FMP based on the main plot could easily be a recipe for some dismal sales. Exactly. The anime didn't sell that well and the novels are already finished. Kadokawa would rather promote another one of their less popular products by giving it an anime. Just check out the boost in sales that Hyouka got. |

Sigh, I don't understand why people continue to think saying "We're already committed to something else, but perhaps we could do it later." means "giving the middle finger" to a company. On topic, Gatou and Takemoto seemed very pleased while working on Hyouka together. It's already spawned some rumors that FMP is their next project, but nothing is confirmed at this time. |

If they actually couldn't fit it somewhere in several years it means it wasn't high priority, or a priority at all. I think you're looking at this backwards. Neither KyoAni nor Visual Arts have the cash to fully fund an anime production. So you need outside financing. For Air, Kanon, and Clannad, a lot of it was provided by TBS. TBS, however, had K-On!, which turned into a huge property. Other KyAno projects are funded by Kadokawa. VA secured funding for LB via Warner Brothers Japan (after turning down an Aniplex proposal and perhaps others). My point is KyoAni only has so much say because they don't fully fund an animation production. A lot of cash is required to be invested up front to make a production happen--and it can take years to recoup the costs. Neither an animation studio nor an eroge company have that kind of free cash. Hence, the need for outside financing. It's possible TBS or someone else could have provided the funding had VA been willing to wait... or perhaps not. The older the LB property gets the less return VA is likely to see on its investment in the anime production. |

Some promising rumors has popped up after my daily google search for "Full Metal Panic Season 4" ! News that in Shoji Gatoh word's will “drive FMP fans wild with excitement” :D http://forums.animesuki.com/showthread.php?p=4401898#post4401898 http://askfullmetalpanic.tumblr.com/post/33838923950 http://www.facebook.com/fullmetalpanicnews?ref=stream Apparently it's some Japanese talkshow or something. Now, it's hard to find concrete evidence of this, but we'll probably hear more after October 24th! Please god let it be a new anime! IF NOT I WILL FLIP MY SHIT (╯°□°)╯︵ ┻━┻) |

jmal said: your acting like fmp didnt sell well, yah it wasnt a huge hit but it didnt bomb, the reason we never got a season 4 earlier was more due to the fact that the source material wasnt done, and the reason were not getting it now is because kyo ani is such a shitty animation studio that if the thing they are animating isnt moe as fuck then they wont pick it up. Havent you noticed for the past 4 years they have been making the exact same shows over and over again? hazerddex said: DmonHiro said: because the fact that so many here want it proves you wrong. ;)But it wouldn't SELL, why don't you understand that? Since when does a bunch of foreigners posting on a messageboard = sales? How many of them do you think will import the BDs of a third season? Almost none. I would (if it were at least as good as TSR), maybe 2-3 others tops... really, importers are a tiny group. So no, people wanting to watch something is not the same as saying they'll buy something, i.e. give it good sales. And I mean sales of the Japanese release because the domestic Japanese market is the most important, for obvious reasons. I don't think a third season of FMP would be a flop, but I'd guess somewhere in the range of like 5k in sales. Medium/high end of average. TSR only averaged 4,833. I say as long as JC staff doesnt animate season 4 then im fine with anyone else. |

You know I want a season 4 as much as the next guys but...this is Kyoto animation we're talking about here, FMP:TSR sold OK, since then the majority of there shows have sold insanely well(Haruhi, K-On, Hyouka), from a business perspective I don't see why they would want to go back and make another season to a show that only did OK when the new stuff they make ends up seems to end up selling like hot cakes. |

While Kyoto Animation seems to be more deeply involved in production committees for their shows than other animation studios, if Kadokawa thought FMP was a sure thing and threw enough money KyoAni's way, they'd probably do it. And again, there's no reason many other studios couldn't do it. It's too limiting to think it absolutely has to be KyoAni. |

I dont care what people say, the guy claims something big will happen in 2013 and until then i will hold out hope for a fourth season! FMP is still a popular brand in Japan right? The Second Raid may not have sold like hotcakes (which is bullshit because it's the best one) but the manga and novels still do pretty well apparently! |

So MAL finally starts locking news threads that are only a few weeks old? I wonder where was the announcement of this change? Or we are seeing yet another case of changes made that impacted users but not communicated to them? I wonder how long people would put up with this. As much as I have a bunch of information to share about anime announced recently I cannot share it in news board, and the anime series is too disorganized and chaotic to share information except with people already interested in the particular series. |

They are the worst! Also, how is the fact that some people are mad at KyoAni's marketing direction indicative of whether it's appealing to a broader audience? If anything, it's proof that they are spreading to a broader audience, since their normal one is supposedly (according to you) angry about it since it isn't targeting them. . I love moe (since I realize that not every moe show is the same, unlike some people who have only seen 1 or 2 shows, yet are the most vocal, generalizing haters out there) and I'm totally looking forward to Free! It's not causing me to get butt-hurt, as I realize that KyoAni has no obligation to make only moe shows that generally target my demographic. Plus this is no different than K-on. Just a genderswap, that's what's new!! Yes, because you can tell exactly what kind of show this is going to be based on a few CM's and PV's.Also, according to your list, you haven't even seen K-On!, so have can you make such a comparison? Probably based only on what you've heard from the most vocal minority haters, which as we all know is soooo accurate. |

Is there any news on what the announcement actually was? The latest issue of Dragon Magazine has already come out, so I thought we'd be hearing about something big by now. I did manage to find this SUPPOSED image of it: My Japanese may not be as good as Alice's English, but I'm pretty sure that's no announcement for a new season (a fan event scheduled for the fall; maybe an announcement there?). Perhaps someone a bit more informed on the matter could clarify. |
