Anyway, this is my favorite episode from this second act. I think Fate/Zero is one of the few animes that doesn't dilly dally around. Rather it does everything it can and makes use of time really well. How they cram so much stuff into an episode without sacrificing content, production, and awesomeness is beyond me.

The more I think about it, Episode 11, Episode 5, and Episode 16 depict the three types of episodes that exist in Fate/Zero. One is dedicated to the conversations that characters have in length and in great detail. The second is dedicated to fights and showing those visuals in great detail and motion. The last merging the two for an excellent combination that doesn't sacrifice pacing or any depth. This episode was the epitome of why I love Fate/Zero. Too good.

Fucking this - the best part of the episode wasn't even the Saber vs Lancer duel, but that word-fight between Saber (idealism) and Kiritsugu (realism with a drop of nihilism). It was really, really well-done - and as much as I love F/sn (the visual novel), I have to say that Gen really used the premise way better than its original creator.

no it was corrupted since the last war
lancers curse was just an ironic coincidence

LOL At Those Who Hate Maiya, Kiritsugu Or Others. What Are We Watching Again, A Prequel Of Fate/Stay Night, Explaining All Things In The 4th Holy Grail War Especially How Brutal Kiritsugu Was?

Well, I'm Satisfied On This Episode Since I Don't Really Care About Kayneth, Sola And Lancer.

I already posted this in another forum but I'll post it here anyway:

I'm a bit confused.

When Sola-Ui got her right hand cut off, how come she stood up right away even after losing all that blood? When she was standing there was also no sign of Maiya until she turned around to see her hand still holding on to the fence (I'm surprised it didn't fall on the ground instead of just hanging there). I'm also surprised at how she was so energetic thinking about her right hand not being there instead of the pain of her arm being cut off.

Hopefully it will be extended when the Blu-Ray DVD comes out.

Yeah man, single handedly ruining your own life and throwing away everything dear to you for the sake of an "ideal" that anyone who had mentally progressed past puberty would realize is a fucking joke sure is badass. Kiritsugu is a moronic manchild. Hell, he even admits this at the very end of the novel. But I take it you've only seen the anime?

she allowed herself to be enchanted by diarmuid's mole and became completely obsessed over him
she was more afraid of not being able to control diarmuid than the pain from losing an arm since her goal was to force him to love her using the command seals
maiya was professionally trained so you can think of her as a ninja without independent thought
she was gripping on to the fence when it was cut off so i guess the fingers are still gripping onto the wire mesh

It takes her a few moments to get back up, we can hear her splashing around and see the scattered blood stains afterwards (perhaps we'll actually see this happening in the Blu Rays rather than being treated to a still shot of Maiya's knife).

Still, what if she had gotten back up immediately? It was her arm that got severed not her leg, I'm not sure why it baffles you so.

She was sneaking up on Sola, why would there have been any sign of her before the surprise attack? And to increase shock value we the viewers weren't shown that Maiya was sneaking up on her until after the fact. Pretty simple.

Artistic license perhaps? Maybe in reality the muscles would've relaxed and the hand would've fallen (I'm not sure), but it made for a more interesting shot seeing her fall to the ground whilst her arm stayed where it was.

She was in shock, and completely obsessed with the fact that the hand was missing more because of the command seals that were her connection to Lancer than out of concern for her own wellbeing.

Everyone who is blind to see those 'Chivalry war' ideal is nothing but a lie - must suffer.
No pity for Lancer at all. He made his mistake twice (during lifetime and 4th Grail War) and still learned nothing.

Sadly Saber is not smart enough to understand Kiritsugu.

p.s. Wicked sick! episode.

My disappointment isn't directed to Maiya, instead, it is directed to Kiritsugu. For me Maiya seems to be a woman who lacks any kind of free will and only does what Kiritsugu orders. I doubt Maiya would have come with such a plan like that.
Looks like it. My surprises me is that she had guts and was trained properly to do shit with no emotions. Kiritsugu did a good training on her.

Well I guess I'm just thinking of the fact that if I lost that much blood, I probably wouldn't be able to stand up straight or stand at all without collapsing the minute I get up. I do hope they have an extended version of it in the BD release since it felt as if the scene was missing something.

For the record it didn't happen quite the same way in the Light Novel.

Her hand wasn't gripping the fence when she lost it so it didn't stay hanging and she didn't get back up at all, in fact she passed out due to blood loss rather than Maiya knocking her unconscious.

I think the way it happened in the Novel was more realistic but it's a minor complaint really, I still think it was a good scene.

Light Novel said:
Suddenly she tripped. Even after she ended up on the concrete floor with her face up, she did not even have the time to grasp what had happened. She reflexively held out her right hand to seek help, but it was grabbed by someone roughly. Nevertheless, that person obviously did not have the slightest intention of helping Sola, who had fallen. Instead, a blow of excruciating pain struck her wrist.

“Aaa―”

From the surface of her fine and slender wrist, like a broken tap, fresh blood gushed forth..Sola stared at it attentively in disbelief.

Her right hand was not there.

With just a blow, it was cut off cleanly. The fingers and nails which she prided in and never failed to take care of, and also the Command Seals which were more valuable than anything else, disappeared altogether from Sola’s right arm.

Above the pain and the chill of losing her blood, the all the more desperate sense of loss dyed Sola’s thinking pitch black.

“Aa, aaaa, aaaaahhhhhh! AAAAAAHHHH!!”

Whilst letting out a deranged scream, Sola crawled about on the floor, trying to find the whereabouts of her disappeared right hand.

No! It’ll be troublesome if I don’t have THAT. I can’t call Diarmuid. I won’t be cared for by Diarmuid.

Worse come to worst, she would spend all the strokes and command him to “Love me!”, and that should be able to bind him. That’s why she was troubled at her right hand. Whatever the case, even at the price of her life, she would retrieve those Command Seals……

Nevertheless, no matter how much she searched on the cold concrete floor, apart from her splattered blood, there was nothing else ― After that, the tips of a pair of boots which were indifferent-looking and not moving, could be seen.

In the midst of her blurring vision due to heavy losses of blood, still prostrate on the floor, Sola looked up and saw an unfamiliar black-haired lady. Not even displaying any emotion, much less pity, that lady expressionlessly looked down at Sola, who was going to faint.

“Hand……My…hand……”

With her remaining left hand, she grabbed the lady’s boots, clinging onto it – after which she lost consciousness.

Terrifying episode really. Fate/Zero is so well-directed, scripted, animated and characterisation is so impressive it's just not even funny. Kiritsugu was a f*cking badass... plus Lancer's and his masters' deaths were simply gruesome. Guess next week is Tokiomi's turn probably (or at least the beginning of his downfall).

In every age, in every place, the deeds of men remain the same.

Stop with the childish rants already. This is a war, and no matter how righteous the combatants' goals are, the whole point of the war is to utterly destroy the other party. Kiritsugu knows that, that's why he did what he did, showing no mercy.

I am more on Saber's side of sacrifices and carrying on ideals.

What's confusing is loving one person for what they are until you see another side of them that is cruel and you hate them however you love their kids and wife and thus cannot condemn altogether to hate him for fathering and loving a beautiful woman.

That's my problem now. I need more episodes, will Emiya even redeem himself for the cruelty he inflicted in this episode?

That spoiler is absolutely pointless without context. You know what happens, but it doesn't explain at all the reason why. Taking that information at face value will seriously give you the wrong impression, especially considering your current stance.

As for the reason, you'll have to understand Kiritsugu's motivations for doing the things he does, which will be explained in two episodes.

I am so sad that Duirmuid never got to atone for his wrongs when he lived. Such a death makes it all so more sad. Kiritsugu has lost anything that can relate him to be a human being. He has become a shell of a human and traded his soul with a monster. I never like Keyneth and Sola. But even so, the pathetic deaths they had, left me speechless. And it makes me think that perhaps Duirmuid's curse worked in the end. I am glad we already know the Holy Grail war never succeeded. And all on a sudden, I am so happy that Shirou was such a wimp. Well, even Archer in Fate Stay had honour and dignity as a heroic soul.

And I never liked Maiya. And now I can say I will be happy if she dies. On the other hand, Iri must felt terrible for falling in love with such a monster. And it makes me sad to see Saber had to be packed with such a horrible monster as her master.

The only pair I am rooting for right now is Waver and Iskander.

No rating for this episode from me. It was so F'ed up that I don't know how to rate it.

What a crazy episode ! was shocked more then once it was pretty sad Lancer meeting his Fate like that even after all the suffering he endured but i guess that's what happens when you base your ideals on Honor, and this showed me truly how cold and cruel Kiritsugu can be in order to achvie his goals.

Excellent, that is good news indeed. If they are sound and justified I will comprehend and mourn myself of Kayneth's dead. I LOVED THE GUY! More in S2 than S1. Of course I will also STFU of any Hatred or Rage towards Emiya for all he did. So it's up to the studio and his reasons to act on calming my RAGE towards him. Less spoilers in PM can do that now.

E rank luck stats aren't just for show.

Did the LN actually explain it that way, or is it just implied? Either way, what a shame for Lancer.

And it seems that Lancer had E-ranked Luck in F/sn, too. That would explain UBW.

It was in one of the material books. I forget which one. I can't find a translated version right away though. I just got that info from the wiki.

This anime is totally rockin. Gotta love the 9.0 rating \m/ like a boss
Kiritsugu did what he had to do. Knowing Saber, she doesn't have the guts to put an end to Lancer and they'll probably just spare ones life then have a rematch later at some point. Oh well, i was hoping for an epic battle between them but shit just got serious and booom... it ended in a flash. Kiritsugu is no fun :( I'm praying it's not Iri's time to die yet, kinda felt shocked at the end

Emiya = male lead character of the year
and ofcourse... Fate/Zero 2 = anime of the year
Fate/Stay Night got rolled so bad now xD

As for the next episode, I'm kinda worried that more Archer/Kirei stuff will be cut, I hope that's not the case, since it's pretty damn important this time. Given the preview and the name of the next episode though, even those who have only seen/read Fate/Stay Night should know what's going to happen next.

They can always add it in the Bluray?

This was probably the darkest episode I've seen of Fate\Zero. The methods Kiritsugu uses to win the Grail is just sickening, but needed in his way of thing I believe. Thing spiced up a lot of tension between Saber and him. It sure looked like that Emiya Kiritsugu got really mad that Saber read his thoughts and feeling to the spot there. More to see now!

Also, never sign any contract written by Gen Urobuchi.

Oh, I know, though some people won't bother to watch those and then they'd have the wrong idea about things.

Finally, Lancer's gone. Most irritating character ever tbh. And if you pair him up with Saber you get an endless dialogue about honor and chivalry. Couldn't stand another episode of this.
omg this. So much. I can't stand characters obsessed with honor/chivalry (Saber doesn't bother me as much for some reason).
Didn't like how Kiritsugu cheated Kayneth either. Yuck.

Besides Sola's beauty, team Lancer was just a mess anyway. Good riddance. Now we can move on to better things.

no way its gonna be cut out or people will go wtf during the kirei vs kiritsugu scene when kirei starts tanking contenders
As a child, I was told that society is a melting pot of talents; knowledge and experience combined to form important alloys that will contribute to mankind. When I got to highschool, however, I thought that it's more like a river in which the water represents our peers while we ourselves are the stones in the river. Constant erosion by mindless majority sheeping has made us lose our unique edge. After I hit the age of 18, I realized that I've been wrong all along. Society is no melting pot. Society is no river. Society is a person, a very skilled rapist, and he has fucked us all.
