I would never do it.

I remember seeing this image of a guy who named his daughter Reimu after the Touhou character. Reimu actually doesn't sound that bad of a name, but knowing that he named her after a Touhou character is kind of sad.

I'm naming my kid Oskar.
I don't even care.
It's a perfectly fine name.

As for a girl, maybe Lain. It's a pretty name.

Though if I have a kid with polydactylyl you can bet It's name will be Kinzo and it's first words will be Oh desire.

Unless that name is common in the Western world or it's by some miracle a Vietnamese name, I wouldn't name my child after any fictional character. Children should encouraged to be themselves in my opinion, and to name them after a character you like is a little selfish. Then again, I totally admire Robin Williams for naming his daughter after Zelda, so I'm a little hypocritical in this regard.

Not that I would ever get the option of naming a child(my future wife would probably kick me for trying to name anything) but if I did....sure. I would probably use a nice name that rolls off the tongue(like Yoko or Lina) with a common place middle name so they can choose. I don't really like my own name that much so giving my child/children a slightly unique name would be cool.

Edit: I wouldn't name them in honor of a character but society be damned if I didn't find Japanese names to be nice.

Technically I would be giving them a Chinese Name.

Thanks to Chinese Culture being so Vast in the Far east, its easy to translate the Chinese Name into a Japanese one. Since Kanji can be translated into Japanese. So my child would have a Chinese name, and he or she can use either the Chinese Pinyin or the Japanese Pin yin, or even a English name at school. depending on their choice. But the Birth Certificate will have the Chinese Pin Yin and Kanji.

I definitely wouldn't name my child after a Japanese name or Russian name etc. Maybe if they DO have an English or Spain name. It depends. I could most likely name them a Spain, Geek etc. name. Like maybe Roger, Sasha, Susan, Sophie etc.

I would Definitely. If the English translation is good than why not. I have a great Last name that goes with almost any unique name.

His name would me Nate River and my last name.

I have two kids and I didn't know about anime until after they were born. :( That name would have been perfect for my youngest son which I always compare to N from Death Note.

Kinda weird if your kid is white and has a Japanese name and neither the blood mother and father are Japanese...

To address the question, if it is a girl I might name her after some girls from Aria.

Hmm, perhaps I'd name my daughter Zelda. But then again, even the famous people have done that (Robin Williams for example).

I'm not Japanese so why the hell would I name my child after an Anime character? Hell, it's probably not even legal in Portugal for you to name a White kid "Akira" or something like that.

Pets yes, children? Hell no.

Well to me, it depends.

I have to take into consideration how he/she will be looked at in the future as they grow up, since their name may feel out of character to others.

I don't want to just name my kid after an anime character since that sounds like no real effort or meaning in the name.

However, there are certain names that I feel would be acceptable such as Suzu or maybe Kanade since they don't sound all too Japanese.

I'm Asian, so I feel like my kids can get away with having a Japanese name easier than other races.

Then again that would be stupid so my answer is a no.

A poll would've been nice though.

I would feel odd naming a kid something Japanese since I myself am not Japanese. I do have a dog named Akira though, but he isn't named after the anime but instead after the director Akira Kurosawa (my dad actually named him that too not me though I was all for it as well).

Alex (Louis Armstrong) for a boy, Alicia (Florence) for a girl. Any obscure or incredibly Japanese name would make my kid hate me forever.

In case I marry a girl from Japan, assuming that my children will be opposite gender twins, I'll most likely name my son Yuki and my daughter Kokoro, they are rather common names and as such shouldn't be a problem. However, I disapprove of the idea of giving children names like Inuyasha and such.

Aren't most of the anime character's names just typical japanese names?? It wouldn't be like naming your child Gandalf or Legolas or something like that (even though i know of people who have done that )

Back in the 70's and 80's Finland was influenced with the "Bold and the Beautiful" series, so alot of kids' were supposed to be Roger, etc. Anyway, i do love Japanese names, but if the childs mother isn't Japanese, then probably not gonna happen.

Calling my son Rolo? Uh no thanks that sounds more like an animal name and a candy name when its used outside of the realm of fiction. Although I wouldn't mind calling my daughter Louise, Luna, or Emma since those are my favorite Gundam females and they don't sound too bizarre or weird cause I don't want them to be beat up on the playground or anything. I think the likelihood of me naming my child after an anime character - provided they had a fairly normal, generic name - would be greatly increased if I lived in Japan, but seeing as how I live in America now, that'd be highly unlikely. xD

Aria is going to be a name i will use... DONT YOU DARE TAKE THAT NAME!

I use Katsura, Aria, Mio, Nanaiel in MMORPGS I don't see why not calling someone as those names.

Btw Aria is an italian word and so is Mio so technically they're not Japanieesy

...Aerith, Arys, Ariel, bleh im starting to feel foolish throwning these names around. I'm a fan of 2-syllable names that start with A
