| This is fairly difficult unless you talk with the writer of the series. They do that to show that they want to change their lives in some sort of way or start a new life. Maybe their did it for personal reasons or for someone their like. I do not know. Maybe it is an annoyance to have long hair. Why do you get your hair cut? |

| Realistically speaking then a Japanese girl could prefer to have shorter hair because in summer Japan is a very hot country, and long, thick black hair would make you feel the heat more. But of course, that reality doesn't often factor into anime :P |

| Well I guess every culture has their own thing (if any) to show they are moving on . In Japan as it seems , girl cut their hair to show they are starting anew after a heartbreak . It gives them a new look outside and it's their first step for a new start . As for Sakura from Naruto , she cut her hair to show her decisiveness since her hair was her joy and pride and thus it was a way to show she grew up . I personally like that they have this ... tradition I should say ? Well whatever that may be called . Well ofc if you rly love long hair and don't want to cut it then yeah but as a gesture I rly like it and one day I'd rly like to feel the need to cut it to "show" something (well to myself that is . I doubt anyone else would get it here xD) |

| I ask the same question about guys (Thouse it's usually in mangas). And it's really irritating when they do it in the end, when you already used to a certain haircut (In Ranma 1/2, Akane's long hair is more beautiful, but you don't have lot of time to get used t o is so much). |

| I'm glad I'm not the only one who thought of this. It's something that had always bothered me. It's one of the things I hate most in anime. Idk why but I really dislike short hair female characters. I just always think they look a million times better with long hair or if they had long hair. If I actually like a female character with short hair then I REALLY like them cause it usually never happens. It always make me wanna scream and punch things when a cute girl with long hair cuts their hair. Both in anime and real life. I wish they didn't! It probably also has to do with that one of my life goals is to have long hair haha. |
