THIS IS AN ANIME ONLY DISCUSSION POST. DO NOT DISCUSS THE MANGA BEYOND THIS EPISODE.
----------------------------------------
I still can't get the Aoi Hana characters out of my head... everyone just looks the same.
The only one I seem to like is Sasa-chan, only because she was adorable this episode. I guess Chizu was entertaining too.
The walk home with everyone was a cute scene though, glad to see everyone together.

It`s good, down to earth and real.

Was there a guy in the class wearing a girls uniform or was that actually a girl? :P

Without all the confusion of the first episode around I could fully enjoy the beauty of this episode. The characterization so far is great, and works surprising well despite the big cast. After only two episodes the characters already have more layers than those of some 100+ episode shows…

And the Aoi Hana vibe isn’t really surprising with the same creator…and even sound director behind it. The voice acting feel a little bit odd at times but it definitely has its charm. Looking forward to the next one and I am pretty confident that at least one noitaminA show won’t disappoint this season…

wahhh!! Looooved it :) this is now one of the two anime I really can't wait for their release each week (this and infinite stratos)
"참 많은 파도가친다.앞으로 여행할길은 너무멀고길지만 멈추면안돼.. 멈춘순간 어른이 되어가는 길을 포기하는 나락으로 떨어진다. 어른이되어가는 경험은 이제부터 시작이지만 아직어리고 젊다는 최고의무기로 아직 눈앞에 보이지않는 더넓은 세상을 밟고싶다."

Pretty much the same as last week.
Tho i feel like it's really worth watching the atmosphere is so relaxing and laid back.
And Chi-chan is so funny in her actions does she even realize what she is doing.
Those 2 upperclassmen where sad to bully a first year just because she didn't greet them and then getting angry because she outsmarts them in front of everyone.

I don't know what to say about the male lead tho, he seems very dishonest with his feelings and very insecure.
His male friend is even more insecure and seems to by the type that gets bullied easily.

I dunno if i can take any more of this anime... that role reversal is just too strong. I am confused at the moment to if i should drop this or keep watching, this seems like an anime which has the potential to make even grown men cry.

I do believe greetings is standard in Japan, and of great importance. Since she didn't greet them despite being a junior it could be considered rude, not to mention she did lie to them. Besides the actions of the upperclassmen hardly considered bullying.

Felt pretty much the same as last week to me, but a little less confusing. At least I could tell who was who this time. I really like Sarashina's character - defintiely breaks the ice for everyone. Everyone walking home together and getting ice cream was also fun to watch. Hopefully this will get a bit more interesting though, because so far it's kind of boring.

After a bit of reading on who is who, I'm starting to understand now. Somehow, this anime is so relaxing for me to watch.
I have high hopes for this anime because so far, it's good. Probably because of the cross-dressing, sexual identity, that kind of stuff is always interesting.

I particularly liked the character interactions and the different revealings in this episode I know anime and I know this show will have IRL nice situations of rich character interactions. The realism and art of this series is what makes it interesting and good. In regards to the episode itself, I do like that appearance of Chizuru with girls clothes. Although I never though Chizuru is a good martial arts fighter, which reminded of Sasameki Koto. Chiba herself was rather rude to Shuichi. I also detected a possible future student/teacher relation that may go out of control and holy shit would the class fight of Chiba VS Momo almost got out of control.

Shuichi does cute like a girl while blushing. Although his sister was funny when kept banging her lunch, jealousy? A little reminder to Shuichi girls do stink to of sweat. No matter who you are, all humans have seat and you stink after it if there is too much on you of it. Found it funny, oddball. Detecting some possible future fights between Yoshino/Chiba solely because their sports use the same hall. Oh God no, Makoto thinks he is gay? That sound like another issue to be explored on this show. Looks like Maho does not like it when her brother takes a bath before her. That's interesting towards her character.

I liked the 9 months in the past with Chiba admitting to Yoshino to Shuichi likes her. Despite that Chiba clearly
hates Yoshino because of it. To the point of even admitting she came to yell at Yoshino. What was surprising is that Yoshino also hates Chiba. I am guessing Yoshino like Shuichi also. Despite all that Yoshino still stood up and wanted to be friendly to Chiba. Love the little details like this water filled basin. Guess Chiba in the end really did give the nasty attitude by not saying hello to those girls that she lied to.
^Nice episode!

It might be common manners.
But if they wanted to address her about it they should have done it when she didn't greet them or somewhere which would not have drawn the attention of such a crowd.
To call her out in the middle of class and causing such a ruckus is rather childish and clearly a attempt to make her look bad in front of a large group.
Which could be considered bullying or at least abuse of authority.

Loved this episode. I think I now have a good grasp on who's who.

The part where his sister was slamming her lunch on the desk was really funny, I replayed it several times. xD

And now that I'm reading Makoto's profile on MAL, he cross dresses too? I didn't think much of the hairpin he was wearing, I thought he was just wearing it because Shuichi gave it to him. Also it seems he likes guys, which is interesting.

And is Aki Toyosaki really voicing Momoko? I can barely recognize her. She must be using a totally different voice than from her usual stuff.

God... There's this thing about this anime that just makes me love it. Heck it's a show about Junior High Schoolers with questionable sexuality but it's just so good.

I'm really looking forward to seeing the rest of this.

If Saori did something rude to them, then they have all right to ask for an apology. Them asking for a public apology is probably to satisfy their ego though most would drop it. If they had asked for anything more i would consider it abuse.

I would not go so far as to call it abuse of authority, all they asked for was to talk to Saori. They both are children anyways, there probably won't be bad blood between them once they apologize.

Although I'm still standoffish considering where it starts I am definitely enjoying the anime. A while ago I forgot why I hated Chiba, this episode reminded me though, it also made me realize I can't hate her for too long.

As episode 2 brought me to a heartwarming end I was disheartened when I remembered that it'll only be 11 episodes long. Even though I'll still have the manga I'll definitely miss this anime.

2nd ep in and there hasn't been one thing that I've disliked about this show. I LOVE shows that challenge what society has established as normal. I also like how this show deals with issues that go on every day in the minds of middle schoolers and high schoolers.
I love the girl that calls herself Chi. She is going to be who she is and doesn't give a fuck about what people say about it!!
I cannot stand Chiba! She seems like the kind of person that just wants to have a big pity party for herself and likes to blame others when things don't go her way. She's got a horrible attitude and I hope she gets her ass kicked soon!!!
Can't wait for the next episode...

The is a beautiful show and I'm enjoying watching it...and it makes me glad that I am far far far away from being in Jr. High.

Would not go back to those days for all the tea in China.

Chiba's confession made me laugh, but none of the characters reacted as fast as I did...so I felt a little bad, and the Chi's gufaws had me going all over again. I love the un hurried pace.

I was worried since people were talking about this started in the 6th volume... Yet i think the unknown background gives the current events more depth and meaning. They did a good job of sorting out who is who this episode...Last episode just made it confusing.

The shiney heads are still annoying, but i am engulfed in this show from start to end. There is a lot going on though.

Well, I read the manga, and although it was VERY good, the kudzu plot and lack of strong grip in some chapters pose to be quite significant drawbacks.
Kudos for the HM committee for starting the anime in the middle of the story...

Flashbacks not very flashy (pun intended) and were appropriately set, although it seems that there is a danger of the anime being overly reliant on the flashbacks, which won't be so nice.

Although there are some modifications here and there, the anime improves much on the pacing, which I think is very superb.

I guess somebody mentioned about the anime being lighter than the manga, and I completely agree with him/her. I hope that the anime doesn't deviate much from its core issue: gender identity.

IMO episode 2 was so seriously epic awesome, right now I am becoming even more skeptical on whether they can keep up the same standard throughout the series...

About the shiny heads, I believe some of us will not be too comfortable with that, but let's just take it as the art. It resembles watercolour painting to me, and I believe it is intentional; I also think this is done as a credit for the manga, in which the covers are done in watercolour style. Personally I think it is quite cute, and adds up more on the 'frail and delicate' impression that the anime gives out

Just my two cents.
Oh and another thing, sorry for the double posting.. but...
The soundtrack is also very well executed. Awesome to say the least, not just in quality. but also in timing.

I feel bad for not mentioning this..

Good ep. The refreshing atmosphere due to the art is always there.

I really liked Takatsuki leading in making up with Chiba. Eventhough she doesn't done anything wrong yet she's trying to make things well.

Also, I didn't thought that the Glasses boy wasn't straight. :/

Looks like the romance might start next ep.

The OP and ED really sound great.

I got to admit the crossdressing and gender confusion got me saying wtf am i watching, but i've seen revolutionary girl utena before so i guess it's not too off and I actually like what I've seen so far. Lots of drama in this ep, love triangle thing that causes friendship to breakdown but in the end everyones eating ice cream together so it works out. Next ep seems to show more of Nitori's and Takatsuki's feeling for each other?

Personally, I'm not too fond of this adaption. While it's been a while since I've read Hourou Musuko, this anime just doesn't seem to have the same magic that allured me. Sure, a lot of the story seems to be the same, but the delivery just seems to lack impact for me. :/ Hopefully I'll have a better impression as it goes on though.

Hey cool, found out that this show, although not the first one, uses real landscape: http://tianlang2.s206.xrea.com/Hourou-Musuko.htm someone compared. That's good because it will make the show more realistic bearing in mind it actually took real landscape from proven photos.
