Where I live, cursive was taught and practically enforced from 2nd grade, but was it the same for you? And if that was the case, how many of you still use it today as an adult? Personally, I've long since dropped using it. It's not that I hated it or anything, but I can manage to write in block just as fast. But what about you? Do you still write in cursive?

My signatures are in cursive, and I wrote my name normally if it says “Print Name”. I was taught cursive at a pretty young age, yeah.

I rarely write in manuscript form these days, but when I do then sometimes cursive, for example when I write my signature.
No, this isn't my signature.

It was mandatory in Soviet schools (and I'm thankful for it).

But they went full-retard for more modern Western-like education system and dropped it in the mid/late 90s.

We were required to turn in any non-typed schoolwork in cursive from 2nd through 8th grade. I kept it up in high school, I guess just out of habit, and because it was quicker for taking notes, though they were so messy that I doubt anyone but me could read them. I dropped it pretty much immediately after high school, though. It’s been so long since I wrote more than my name in cursive that I’m not even sure I could still do it.

We're freaking out that we're running out of time, but to do what? Should i stop and think of that? Is there something i could do to slow it down? Live in a day for once, instead of watch it sprinting by

@Exhumatika Most western countries still require you to write in cursive to this day, so I don't know what your rant is about. Probably nothing grounded in reality, as usual.

OT: always written in block. I'm just not meticulous enough to achieve anything readable with cursive lol. Which is weird because I draw pretty well ๐Ÿค”

Here it was the same. I stopped cursive because too much overlapping on {o, r, j, g} . t and i are taught lifting the pen anyway. I have the impression fast strokes destroy pen ballpoints when there is not much paper under it. From cursive I naturally evolved into my "block" letters. But my x in math is still cursive.

When writing for others, I write in either all print or slightly cursive for the sake of legibility.

When signing my name for others, or when I'm just writing stuff for myself, I write in all cursive. I just like the look of cursive way more.

3rd grade was when I learned how to write in cursive, but I didn't actually learn how to do it in a more visually aesthetic sort of way until my mid 20s.

If you're good at writing in cursive, block shouldn't be anywhere near as fast.

I was a nurse, so I always write in block capitals to avoid confusion where possible. But when I write notes for myself or something that doesn't need to be written "properly" (ie. official stuff), I write in cursive. Because it is just that much faster.

Thing is, I mostly only write official things these days. It's been a while since I had to "write" something.

I also have a third writing style for taking "important" notes (for posterity), but that's just because I like having my notes a certain way. If it's a quick "jotting down a reminder" kind of note, it's in cursive.

Was forced to learn it. Was fast but often couldn't read my own scribbles anymore... (and the teachers even less of course).
Dropped it after school.
Now I write in block... it's very slow but luckily I don't need to write much at all in my job. And at least others can decipher it.
Wish we could have learned other writing styles from the get go instead of being forced to adapt a writing style that never produced readable results for me.

Recently, I wrote letters to some of my relatives.

I may write others in a few days as a matter of fact.

It's old and slow for sure, but it feels nice to do, and sending the letters from abroad is kinda neat (also waiting for it to arrive).

My cursive is horrible though, I'm one of those left handed people that never got it right as a kid, teachers hated reading me for that.

I like the touch of paper, still.
