Yeah, Nina should've understood by now, I mean, Azure legit told her that she had no home to go to if she even did escape the palace. And she saw it head on... the idiot.

Cat's semi-out the bag, those dudes figured out that Nina isn't actually the princess or whatever, maybe word will spread idk, doubt that killing them is enough to stop word from coming out.

Azure's skill with the sword sure came in handy quite quickly! It's clear to me Nina's impulsivity is going to be just the thing to balance their relationship out. I don't think she could have brought him closer to Muhulum without it.

This adapted chapters 3 and 4. Cut brief jump forward to later in the chapter oppening to 3 and used the opening to 4 before adapting 3 Lol. It works though to set up the star festival and I think it's less awkward then having it in the middle.

And I was right. They are going to rush it. They covered 10 pages in about a minute and half not counting the op. They skipped build up of Alisha and Muhulum spying on Azure through a window and Alisha growing to understand how much work Azure actually does, which is important to her understanding of something in the next episode or 2. Also he immediately turns towards the window sensing them watching. And it includes some nice bonding between Alisha and Muhulum allowing her to understand his character

Also their investigation takes place over several days! And Azure calls her out for sneaking around multiple times since he knew the whole time. And Muhulum and him bickering a little with Muhulum saying he was simply giving her a tour.

This is honestly such a weird adaptation. It's pacing is off and if they were more stable with it they probably could have included that scene no problem. Or they could have easily cut the brief recap on why Alisha was chosen to be the princess. The characters are not even half as expressive or animated as they are in the manga. The castle feels empty. The only character who feels like a semi fully realized version of their manga self is Nina

Also really unimpressed with this studio. They don't animate most of Azure's facial expressions. They put so much emphasis on drawing his mouth for some reason and don't even let him frown, looked surprised or anything even when he's interacting with Nina they are doing a terrible job of actually showing their oppinions of eachother. They also refuse to make the palace look as luxurious and detailed as the manga in anyNina. Didn't even bother making nina and Muhulum's chase look like it took them too an abandoned part of the castle and instead made their little incident look like it took place just outside Azure's room. Also Muhulum didn't climb onto covered wood but the bricks of the uncovered well. Which does a way better job of showing his mental state in the manga.

Also Alisha was supposed to be locked out from their fall, having shielded Muhulum from the impact and then holds him to keep him safe after she wakes and finds him crying over her, since nobody could hear him calling for help while she was unconcious. Also just gloss over his insecurities and the public oppinion amd gossip about him. Also skipping Nina's keen insight into his every move over their Azure spying sessions.

Glad too see Azure isn't the only one they won't animate facial expressions for. Muhulum isn't getting his done either. But at least animate Azures during the outright romantic moments like the well amd their chat about his weakness. That's the bare minimum and they're failing at showing them growing closer. I want to see his interest in her growing alongside his total exasperation with her like in the manga. Anime should be more expressive, not less then still panels are

This studio really sucks. And that's just my complaints for chapter 3. Now to chapter 4 which is longer then 3, but again what the chose to cut vs some moments they adapted from 3 is just bad planning.

Skipped Nina demonstrating her increased skill at being Alisha. Skipped more of their bickering and denial at being close as well as Azure having a face with more then one expression yet again. But oh look Azure actually has something close to his manga expression when telling Nina to be careful since the world isn't made of just simple people like her. And then they go back to treating him like a expressionless doll while animating her expression instead of properly showing their comedic dynamic.

Skipped foreshadowing for the reveal on why someone is trying to out Nina by having the mastermind order the servant. Skipped more of Azures facial expressions. More still frames that are just worse versions of manga panels. Skipped foreshadowing with her parents by misunderstanding the subtext of the scene smh.SMH. and not including their wish for her

Finally Azure has another look on his face when he catches her, but still not as expressive as his manga self in that scene. What does everyone knew to the series think of the Azure reveal? This is what really solidifies their connection and significance to each other.

Glad to see they really put effort into animating that fight. Glad to see instead of showing Azure's anger he looks like an expressionless sociopath during it /s. Didn't show his concern over Nina's fear or his expression at telling her she can leave. Or his shock at her telling him shell die for him and how it affects him, or his gentle expression as he hugs her and calls her nina.

This is gonna be an adaptation where their only concern is getting as far into the story as they can with the episode count and not the actual content of the story.

Also the dub script is way too awkward for anyone but nina. But still the biggest problem with that is the king. How is Chris Rager acting so poorly? And so completely off the mark for how the king should sound.

If anyone is curious about how much more expressive Azure is in the manga over been adding pages to my Tumblr that's linked on my page. I'll have the episode 2 manga pages in want to share uploaded fully sometime today.

Another wonderful episode we got today. The story is progressing much faster than i anticipated, already some people figuring out that she's a substitute and she also got to see her old place, truly realizing she has no place to go back to. I do feel bad for Nina, but i am also excited to see where her story goes forward!

I absolutely love the headgear Nina sometimes wear that makes her look like a cat from the front, it's so cute!

Nina my beloved 😩 been waiting on this episode all week I just fell in love with her from the jump last week. Manga fans might be angry but I’m enjoying this so much and it’s kinda filling that Niehime hole in my life. Always good to get peak josei. It’s just a shame the animation doesn’t match how good I’m sure the story will be :/ some scenes are very rough.

Did enjoy learning about Azure and his brother relationship. It’s interesting that while Mushulum mother hates Azure, the boy himself looks up to Azure and idolises him. He and Nina getting stuck in the well together was too funny, poor thing just been eating good his whole life it ain’t his fault he a lil heavy to carry lmao.

Ugh I can tell every time the queen shows up on screen I’m gonna wanna vomit and the fact the king doesn’t detect anything wrong.. and azure won’t tell him anything naturally.. shitty situation.

Not surprised we got Nina sneaking out of the castle, only surprised it happened so quickly. But living in the castle can be so stuffy and even though life on the streets was hard, there’s a certain beauty to it that I’m sure she missed. Also it just feels like changing her name in the castle and becoming a princess is like erasing her actual parents. But that reveal that azure was adopted too?!! Lot of questions now. What’s up with the royals adopting so many kids. Could the previous queen not conceive and that’s why the younger prince gets the throne or what?

Need the next ep!

Apparently Azure is a substitute also?

@Marinate1016 not adopted but a replacement. Like nina his former life was Erased and his status as a false primce is a secret, only it was done to him as a young child. It was actually foreshadowed by Muhulum earlier in the episode when he mentioned he heard Azure was a sickly child too. Also foreshadowed by the current queen mocking Azure in the previous episode by referring to his mother as a weak willed woman not that our bitchy current queen is probably even aware of the truth.

I'll leave all the specifics for the show to reveal in the upcoming episodes but to answer you question, Azure being a replacement is indeed why the young Muhulum is the current heir to the throne and Azure being overlooked despite his admirable princely qualities is part of why Muhulum is looked down on by a lot of the staff

If you love the series I encourage you to check out the manga from the begining at some point. It's way better. A lot of decisions being made are diminishing the quality of the story and Azure and Nina's relationship. Plus things really get exciting as it goes on

My hidden gem of the season for now.

Poor Nina. Interesting to know Azure isn't the guy's original name as well. I'm now doubting if the queen is the one who sent that priest and assassins after Nina. Azure said he likes the queen because she's straightforward. Meaning, she isn't scheming from the shadows, or that's how I understood the words.

@Sheol01 She was in hard denial back then. Emotions won over reason. She was desperate to find someone who knew her real name. It was a really sad moment. Can't really blame her. Sure she lives in way better conditions now but as she said, she's basically dead and pretending to be someone else. Such life can be suffocating. It was so sweet when Azure said he'd call her by real name in private. Surprisingly Azure also had different name originally it seems. So the two have something in common.

Nice episode again. The pacing is indeed pretty fast and it feels like they're rushing through the content. This hastiness clashes a bit with the good vibes I'm catching.

I binged the manga after watching the first episode, and… I’ve seen someone else mention it, but the pacing is so so rushed, like I understand that they have to fit idk how many chapters into the 12 episodes that it’s (sadly) supposed to run for, but I also think that the voice acting director should’ve done a better job (particularly for Nina, she’s one of the reasons I felt how rushed everything is).

The story is genuinely good, and I fear that, as usual, the depths it has when it comes to the relationships and thought processes of the characters will be lost in favor of pushing it out in the 12 episodes.

For anyone actually interested in the story, I 100% recommend the manga, the anime isn’t doing it justice so far <3

@KursedArcana Thanks for this. You put all my feelings into words so perfectly. The manga is so gorgeous (seriously the artwork can be absolutely stunning, especially when it counts), it's so incredibly expressive, and it's what really made me fall in love with Nina and Azure from the first few chapters. They're skipping so much, and I feel like it's really going to affect the show's emotional pull when it really counts, later down the line. It just breaks my heart, knowing what the manga looks like in certain scenes, compared to this wooden, plastic rendition that we get from this studio. I was so excited to see Azure in motion, and we got... this, instead.

I try really hard not to outright badmouth studios unless they deserve it, but seriously... go look at the vibrancy of the manga artwork, the facial expressions that say so much with a glance, the detailed palace backgrounds that make all the palace intrigue feel real, that make Fortna and Galgada feel like real places, and then come back and compare them to the adaption. Azure's nuanced emotions through glances and stares are just gone now, it's so sad... And it's only going to get worse if they're just rushing to the latest chapter they possibly can, like you mentioned. Nina and Muhulum's fall was like, actually a nice chunk of character development, and it felt like the anime made it happen in the blink of an eye, with none of the important thoughts and feelings from when before Azure arrives. The scene where Nina declares "I'll die for you" to Azure gave me chills and made my heart ache in the manga, here, it's just... not the same.

It's especially frustrating because, like you said, there's so much missing from the gradual build-up of Nina and Azure's relationship now; and it's missing all the emotions that the manga made me feel. So much of Nina's emotional conflict hinges on this, so I worry it'll just fall flat for anime-only viewers, when it comes time for... things... to happen, later. I'm just ranting here, but like, wow. It really deserved so much better than this. And I just know they could have done better in adapting this. I'm almost sad that I read a lot of the manga first (I stopped at Volume 9 before the air date-), in anticipation of the anime adaption. I kind of wish that I didn't know everything that they're missing. There's so much romance that should be here already (considering where we are in the adaption), but feels like the studio is just trying to hit the major story beats as quickly as possible, disregarding any potential emotional buildup and subtle romantic feelings to do so. Azure's banter with Nina, their snarky back and forth is an absolute treasure, and it's all but missing, now.

I'm not saying I could do a better job than an anime studio (I'm one person after all), and I don't mean to be one of those obnoxious "the source material is sooo much better" people (actually that's exactly what I'm doing, whoops~) but: This is bordering on being an "abridged summary" version of the story. I hope it won't get as bad as that, but it's starting to feel that way already, and we're only on episode 2.

Also, I'd like to echo what you said, to also encourage anyone who is even remotely interested in this story, beyond a casual seasonal anime checklist-watch, to read the manga from the start. It does these characters so much more justice, and I promise if you care even a little about them, you'll love the proper depth, expression, immersion, and emotional pacing, in literally every aspect, that the manga gives in comparison to this.

I'll stop here and I probably won't write anything more for the rest of the season, or it'll just be me ranting about my frustrations in differences with the manga, so... anyway.

This episode couldn't come any faster and then it ended too soon, noooooooo 😭

It was nice to finally meet the First Prince, Muhulum. That chubby little guy is adorable! Even though some things were cut from the anime, I still enjoyed seeing what they did give us of his bonding time with Nina searching for Azure's weakness. His insecurities and admiration for Azure also make a lot of sense. Poor thing! I'm rooting for his growth.

Nina was just as lovely this episode as well. Her impulsive personality is definitely troublesome and some people will probably find it annoying but I like it. Her realization that her past as "Nina" is going to vanish, especially because there's no one left that knows the real her, was very sad. Azure's reassurance was very sweet at least... and whoa, he can relate.

I do agree with the other comments here about the rushed pacing. Dunno if it's because they are trying to squeeze so much into 12 episodes or what but it is disappointing. The animation especially felt a bit off during certain points of this episode!! ALSO recommend anyone genuinely interested in the story to definitely check out the manga. Rikachi's art is beautiful and so far, I feel like the anime hasn't done it much justice. Hopefully the erasure of scenes and quick pacing doesn't drastically hurt the development we see of the characters moving forward.

Nina already getting those "points" with the little brother.

Not only that, but she made good impressions on the Prince.

Tho, the Prince at this point, has virtually no interest in Nina as possible romantic target, he's solely only caring for her for the purpose of marrying her off as the fake sister.

(which in a way... is similar to what Nina's real brother did, selling her off even tho they "cared about each other")

But the Prince is starting to feel "emotional ties" with Nina cause of some similarities they experienced in their lives.

.

And there are people plotting to reveal Nina is not the original Princess... and as expected, they're the Queen's people... which means once the Queen knows her servants are dead (cause they didn't report back), she can be sure Nina is a imposter, and I doubt the Prince can "kill" the Queen...

Meanwhile... the Prince is "half" apparently not cause of same father, different mothers... but actually from an entire family, the Prince was also adopted and his old family and life is already dead, he can't remember his old family's name.

While the "younger" brother is the "First Prince" cause the little brother is the actual bloodline and thus goes before the adopted Prince for the Throne.

(which means there's a high chance... the original Alisha... was actually also adopted in the first place... as to why neither the King or the Queen really knows about Alisha besides she has "blue eyes")
(this applies to the Prince, he was most likely adopted for his "golden eyes") (seems like the King likes to collect people with unique eye colors)

(also traditionally in old era, Kings and Queens rarely do anything thing about their child's upbrings, most of their studies, education are done by other people, so most times Kings and Queens knows very little about what their children are like unless they really "dot" on one of them or until the children are grown enough to serve the kingdom in some ways) (same is also applied to upper nobility families)

.

Also, interesting "cat ears" Nina's wearing, LOL

And yup, Nina sure is a "simple Baka", Nina just do whatever she wants, heh...

@smoltulip I'm so glad to see someone who agrees with me lol. I fell in love with their dynamic so quickly and I'm just not getting the same feeling from the anime and it upsets me so much.

I had planned on reading it for awhile but the teaser is what got me to dive inans fall for this series. So if in the same boat as you. But I'm still glad I started reading first cause I'm crazy about the series and wouldn't won't to miss out on how amazing it is. I know this studio could have done a decent job if they tried. I checked and they did another series I loved awhile back called recovery of an mmo junky and a few other srries i consider decent, but it doesn't seem like they've done any other well regarded adaptations appart from that one.

Ok I'm sending you a friend request lol. I'm so glad someone else cares about all those subtle glances and expressions that are lacking here. It's so much I dont know if I'll keep calling all of them out but it hurts my heart. I think episode 3 does a little better but still all the subtleties and subtext isn't carrying over and it is harming the romance, which will make their motivations seems shaky in the anime. Like we're covering months of time and while the manga moved quickly though it too, there were still attempts to flesh things out so you feel time passing like Nina's multiple escapes in these chapters to stalk azure around the castle, unlike the single session the anime portrayed. So much was portrayed and built up, and so much subtle foreshadowing was layered into the story during these moments in the manga that it's a shame it wasn't either emphasized the same or included at all here.

And yes! The "I'll die for you" made me desperate to turn the page and keep going in manga format while here it just didnt hit the same despite the voice acting. I'm going to try and stay positive, but I was so excited to show the anime to someone before it started and now when we watch the episodes together I feel like i have to keep tolurning to her and being like this hits so much better in the manga and worried she's not going to get into as much as I know she would if it did it justice lol.

If you want to complain or chat as episodes come out let know.

She already said “I’ll die for you” ?! The pacing has me in shock, I did enjoy the episode but the fighting scenes were not the best I’ll be honest…

Don't know where the story is going but I'm intrigued. Seems like it might be a better read than watch. That fighting scene was rough.

So first prince seems good, second prince is more liked outside of by mother, Azure had same thing happen to him as Nina, but he actually did die and doesn't know his name. I fully understand Az & Nina's mentality of not wanting to "die" and actually cried. Yes it is not a real death, but it is a death of their person, it is a death in many cultures/religions where you only die when forgotten.
So she's deemed secular now so does not need to do the dance LOL

I need to pick up the manga. The story seems to be progressing rather fast.

I love her cat ears

I know it is rather early yet but I am team-Azure. It is not fair to choose two this hot voiced seiyu for the boys though... Like choosing between Johny Depp and Benedict Cumberbatch...
